- The NIO EP9 put up an incredible 44.61 seconds on the hill during the Supercar shootout at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed! The NextEV EP9 delivers 1-MegaWatt of power, equivalent to 1360 horsepower! Video shows the car being driven FLAT OUT up the hill at Goodwood, and it sounds and goes like a jet plane! Enjoy!

Since I can think I found it way cooler and creepier, when a fast car was barely audible. This contrast of brutality and silence ever reminded me of some kind of predator and that's why I absolutely love cars like the EP9!

@@erickanguiano8142 Cheaper than a Tesla slightly. China's gov. will not let Nio fail as they have plans on going full ev as well as all the incentives to buy a ev currently. In addition its backed buy a few notable tech billionaires. I believe in the near future they will enter global markets and they already have teams based in other country's now. Software dev in San Jose, Design in Munich, Vehicle performance in London, and of course HQ in Shanghai
I personally don’t care about the sound in a car. I don’t get an adrenaline rush from the sound or I could just listen to car engines without driving. It is the performance of the vehicle being driven that counts for me. Performance and sound are somewhat intrinsically linked because that is what we are accustomed to but we all know you can have one without the other.

Electric motors have an energy efficiency up to 86-87% while the best gasoline engines reach 18-19%.
The figure refers to the efficiency of the motor to turn a given energy amount and transform it into motion power/torque.
Combustion of potential chemical energy into mechanical energy is very un-efficient and most of it is dispersed in heat and friction of the complex moving parts.
Beautiful car but it’s hard for me to get excited about a car that sounds like you’re rewinding a VHS tape.

The lack of sound doesn't bother me, it's just the fact that's it's Chinese.

idontcare80 The Chinese people are not their government. That's like saying British people are all warmongerers because our government sells weapons to the Saudis which are then used in Yemen. In both cases many are opposed to government policy but can't really do much about it. Especially China where democracy is not really a thing. I wouldn't tar everybody with the same brush; personally I believe that Nio's environment concerns are genuine.
I'll have to disagree with you on Formula E, but regardless the fact remains that many of the same people were involved in it's design and testing. Oliver Turvey (their lead driver) even drove it at the Shanghai F1 circuit and broke the road car lap record there.

As an EV driver I quite like that I don’t have the engine and transmission noise of ICE cars... it really makes road trips quite enjoyable and the music sounds *_great !!_*

NIO (蔚来) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer headquartered in Shanghai.

before Trump's Tariffs Ford was planning to rebadge a chinese SUV as the "Focus Active" which would have had a 350HP EcoBoost engine (fancy name for 4 cylinder engine with a turbo charger) ...the fact that Ford was willing to trust Shanghai's auto industry says a lot.
they abandoned the plan because the Tariffs would have made them barely break even on selling the re-badged SUV's in the states

@@RingoYote except the focus active is built and made by ford and isn't a chinese SUV? Ford sold it in the Chinese market, among other markets. And it doesn't come with the 350hp 2.3L ecoboost, that's only in the Ford Focus RS, not the Active. The active's only gas engines are a 1L ecoboost (3 cylinder, I think?) and a 1.5L ecoboost (also a 3 cylinder), as well as diesel engines. This is in Europe.
They abandoned it because they determined it wouldn't sell enough units.

I see a lot of comments about the lack of sound. The sheer speed this car can go is amazing.
As for the sound, I like to think that it is stealthy! The car should be painted matte grey color like a stealth weapon.

looks great and sounds sweet, i've always loved the way electric cars sounded. And while i do love the intoxicating sound of a combustion engine, i think electric cars have their own uniqueness.

@@noidontthinksolol just because someone made an electric car first does not mean that they both developed as much. Its basic physics, fuels like petrol and diesel have a fixed amount of energy stored in them, you can reach very high efficiency and you're still limited by that. However a battery doesn't gain weight when it's charged, not to mention the system is much more efficient. Once battery technology advances there'll be no competition, probably within the next 20 years

The sound is one of the biggest reasons I'd want an electric car. I already have a fast electric bike and I would never trade it for a gas powered one. I just hate the noise and smell of fossil.

@@applefanXXX I don't want petrol in my car just like I don't want boring electric shitboxes. Hydrogen powered combustion engines could have been made for the last 60 years. The most environmental friendly engines. We've had knowhow but evil oil corporations and banksters prevented it from becoming our reality. Do you research people. Electric vehicles are being pushed into the market right now not because it's a new tech or something. One of the reasons being the same as digital money where they want to get rid of physical cash. Basically we already work for imaginary numbers on the screen and banks are just creating new 1s and 0s by simply typing the amount on the screen every time you get your loan and you have to pay for it. They want us to be dependent on digital and electric devices as much as possible because it's easier to control and we are still paying more than we would if the vehicles were hydrogen powered. Electric vehicles are harder to repair without deep knowledge of electronics, so nobody could work on their own cars in their own garages. They want things to be more complicated rather than simplified. Electric cars are not that environment friendly either as they want us to believe. Just look at the battery sizes the cost and how much toxic waste it will become 10 years from now.
those who complain about the car making no grunt sound, I would say it sounds even better, with that whistle sound and acceleration, like a jet fighter taking off. And stop crying.

i like E cars but they wont be that popular because poluation< Battery production causes more environmental damage than carbon emissions alone. Consider dust, fumes, wastewater and other environmental impacts from cobalt mining in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, water shortages and toxic spills from lithium mining in Latin America, which can alter ecosystems and hurt local communities, a heavily polluted river due to nickel mining in Russia, or air pollution in northeastern China etc

It used to be that electric cars were laughed at for being slow. Now that this beast kicked the butt of GT2 RS, the only card left is how boring electric cars are though haters haven't driven it.
they are slow once they've been driven for a period of time.. All that power has them heating pretty quickly... Hence why we only see a few laps at best from any given EV making massive power...
I love electric cars, no doubt they are the future. So basic structure, maintaence cheaper and not so often in need of repair than combustion engines. Quiet and modern with huge ammount of power. Soon there will be very fast charging cars with huge range. New teslas are allready pretty good. Now the biggest challenge is to build an infrastructure for electric cars.
Ofc i love the sound of revving v6 and big v8 but you gotta let it go. Electric cars give us cleaner air to breathe. Chinese would be able to live outside without masks if they had ec cars not combustion engines polluting the air.
For better or worse, the Chinese government has much more to say about how EVERYTHING works in China.

Yah that was kind of a let down for the caliber of car and to see it be driven by someone who had no idea what they were doing.
Not sure who was driving it in a paddock. But the same Racing Driver during the Hill Climb did Nürburgring in 6:45.9 over the full 20,832m. No one in this comment page has anywhere close to that level of driving skill.

most of the goodwood drivers are amatuer race car drivers, as far as the garage area? have you BEEN to goodwood? the paddock is cramped as fuck, Preludes with 4-wheel steering are cumbersome navigating the area, it's not that big, the camera makes it look bigger than it is.
to be fair, when its getting parked, the steering looks twitchy. (@0:42) so it could be something to do with electronic steering not being tuned... or so i'm guessing its electronic steering. also, that car is moving a lot faster than it sounds during its lap :p it looks tough to drive fast.

The "having to piss about" part is having to find a petrol station and spending time there. PLUS, it's MUCH cheaper than petrol! I guess you like all those repair/maintenance costs, too. And, the BIGGEST thing, I guess you would love to kill the entire future human race.
