This is not a teardown video, it's a massacre.

Saved me doing it to mine! Flipping premium disposable products!

Very useful to know there is only hard plastic under the areas either side of the touch-panel. I have a used type-cover on order, and I know I will need to clean those areas of some hand-gunk when it arrives. I can now do this without worrying about damaging circuitry below these areas. Thanks.

Honestly it was pretty much what I was expecting but thanks for doing it so I didn't have to!

Microsoft made some pretty sturdy keyboard.

I wanted to figure out if there was a way to Frankenstein two Surface Pro 8 Keyboard Covers because I liked the form of the Microsoft one and the ability to charge the Surface Pen (whatever it's called) but I wanted it to have the function of the RENAISSER Pelican K8 in terms of being able to detach the keyboard and it work wirelessly via Bluetooth and... I'm glad I came upon your video. I don't think it's feasible or cleanly possible with my resources, but I absolutely appreciate how you took such a specific item apart to see what's up. 😂

It would have made sense to heat the covering with a hair dryer before peeling it off.

My surface pro 8 keyboard's trackpad stopped clicking after an update a few days ago. The tap to click works but clicking does nothing. Talked to Microsoft support who said warranty expired in 2022 so they're unable to help. Had no other tips for me, does anyone have tips I could try? Tried cleaning, tried going into the UEFI and it still wouldn't click.

Very good video. I don't know why it weight that much (about 300 gram), although nothing special inside.
It would be lighter weight if they use expensive PCB, and carbon fiber plate besides touch pad.
Expensive one that built using just normal components.

The new ones are actually structured with carbon fiber

No Value in this video I'm afraid. You just torn it apart and offered no insights into how it works or may be repaired. There are many of these keyboards that have failed but noting here to help.

All you did is destroy a keyboard without showing us the circuitry behind the keys and how to repair it. I keep having issues with these flimsy keyboards and want to fix it. You showed us NOTHING. Even tearing off the vinyl cover was not done properly. Use of a low heat gun would have loosened the glue for easy removal.
From my experience, if you pop any keys off, it is not possible to put it back on, it breaks the tabs. There is no way to clean this keyboard or repair it. Very poor product.
When you make a video, use Landscape mode not Portrait mode on your phone. This is like squinting thru a keyhole.

Why would I want to do this to my keyboard? Please explain.

If you have a broken one you can try to repair it somehow. Obviously you shouldn't just rip off all of the cloth, just around the keys that are broken and try to repair them.. I was hoping that he would show how the PCB around the keys looks like, but he didn't.. I have a broken surface cover that has a few key that aren't working, I was thinking that it might be possible to just solder some replacement laptop keys to the PCB tracks and get it working that way. But that would work only if the PCB is really simple.

The glue holding the fabric to the keyboard starts to fail after a year or two, so I've had to tear off most of the topside fabric. I was hoping he'd show how to remove the keys from the top so I can clean the whole thing. I don't know if it's possible to do that w such a shallow keyboard, but I'd like to check there's nothing blocking the z-key, bc it's been kinda... sticky? Heavy? Difficult to press. And non-destructively removing the keycap would let me fix that.

@@vhack41 Same here, it used to work in specific positions and whenever I touched the ribbon cable section the surface would turn to tablet mode, i tried this too many times and it does not work anymore. Perhaps this can help edwardsh.in/cover/2014/10/19/microsoft-touch-cover-mini-teardown, i'm seriously considering repairing it

same, designed to fail really - there's only so many times you can fold and unfold. looks like microsoft have made impossible to repair as well. i do not consider this "great engineering".

    • @lululock
      @lululock Год назад

There's no battery in these. Maybe you're mistaking it for the Surface Book series keyboard, which has one (and is a pain to replace as well).

    • @mjremy2605

The keyboard has no battery, it uses power from the computer via the magnetic contact points.
