@@AJ_Decosta They weren't fighting for championship here and were still bad. Not fighting for a championship in 2021 and were much better this season. Their new head strategist made some very good calls and the pitstops were top 3 on the grid for the second half of the season.

Going to a less competitive team is normal as great drivers age. It happened to Alonso, Kimi, Massa and many others. I think Seb will have a seat somewhere for as long as he wants but it is doubtful he'll battle for podiums.
Almost certain this will happen, otmar + bwt gone for aston martin and ferrari finished 3rd this year while focusing fully on 2022.

Real talk, imagine how terrifying it would be to be going that fast in any kind of fast racing car and your brakes go out
He is very lucky that it literally happened on THIS track, and on THIS long straight..
Can you imagine the state of that conversation of it was Kimi in that car..
(rear) wing failure, brake failure or tyre failure. All three are utterly horrifying and I can't put into words how pissed I was at Ferrari in this moment.
Had this happened on the long straight at Baku, it's safe to say that there is barely any chance to survive it. Just imagine going down the longest, fastest straight in F1, trying to brake into the corner and your brakes just go "lol nope" on you.
Even on this track, plenty of areas where it would cause a significantly dangerous crash.
I guess the only way to survive would be to hug the wall on the right and try (and pray) stop the car by friction. But easy to say in comfy apartment behind monitor, harder to do going 340km/h in cockpit

I think the best thing to do in that scenario is to gently turn the car into the wall on the right and engine brake.

But when the brakes fail and the driver only realizes this once he approaches the braking zone after a long straight, he's toast... I think something like this happened to Micheal Schumacher in Silverstone once and he broke a leg. Made him miss a few races, iirc.

He was extremely lucky that this happened after the parabolica turn. Other parts of Monza or even other tracks he could have crashed really bad.
He's also lucky that the only thing he was gonna hit was the polystyrene. Could have been extremely nasty if it had been anything but.

At that point the best choice would be to press the neutral button drivers have on the steering wheel and then put the car into reverse. That would make the engine act as an emergency brake. It probably wouldn't stop you from hitting the barrier, but it would still take away quite a lot of speed.
