It's not going to be a souls game. But it will have elements that From Software have spent a decade perfecting. And I expect AC fans and new players will love it when it comes out. It will be critically acclaimed.

The game will be amazing, but I still feel like both you and Vaati are being a little smug and arrogant with your "fuck you I was right" statement in this video. It's also not fair to be dismissive and say that this trailer undoes what Fighting Cowboy was initially saying either. I know you're not 100% serious and Vaati didn't actually say that in his video but still...Many people were more or less saying this months back:
"While the game may have generalized elements that are in line with Souls games, that’s because those existed in the franchise long before Souls did because they’re pillars of Fromsoft’s design language as a collective. But it’ll also have many elements that make it a radical departure from Souls games in it’s inherent design and structure as well as the overall and moment to moment gameplay loop that means it might not be to the taste of every Souls fan. Because it’s not Armored Souls, it’s Armored Core and there’s nothing wrong with that."
So Fighting Cowboy is still not wrong about what the game is going to be either.
Omnipotent, a pretty credible leaker also more or less confirmed this.
      twitter.com/manfightdragon/status/1602127769210523648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1602127769210523648%7Ctwgr%5E82fc28514c613487715d00969037b96c954f5ec0%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.redditmedia.com%2Fmediaembed%2Fzjldj8%3Fresponsive%3Dtrueis_nightmode%3Dfalse
And while sure, Vaati never said that it would be "Dark Souls with mechs", he did use loose, flowery language to treat the methodical vibe of souls combat as being similar to the super fast paced combat of classic armored core. And those are not the same thing. I still think he initially over sold it with his vague definitions of what components of combat would even classify Armored Core as inherently "souls-like." I don't believe there will be any types of "dance like" "parry heavy" "waterfowl dance" type fights in this game that equate to the main souls games. And people should not insist that it should.
So to kind of gleefully, remark "I'm being proven right by these trailers, you're all wrong" doesn't really come across as a fair and balanced take to me. Just my two cents. We don't have to agree.

Some details from the famitsu interview
FromSoft were surprised by the western reaction to the announcement.
-Protagonist being silent is worked into the story as a consequence of them undergoing some Human Plus-like process.
-Re shields: " The shield also has a feature called "Initial Guard" that increases its output for about one second after deployment, so if you can read the enemy's attack pattern, you can use it in a wider range of situations." (I don't know what to make of this) (it's probably something like being able to parry the opponents with the Right timing)
-More aesthetic options for emblems, including textures and weathering.
-While melee combat options have expanded, the director stresses ranged combat is still the focus.
-Regarding multiplayer: Multiplayer is separate from the main story. Allows for PvP and trading of schematics and emblems
-the Single player arena is Coming back
-There is a "repair kit" item that can be used up to 3 times during missions.
-For the planning phase, they decided to put focus on "things a Mech can do that humans cannot do" (being able to use multiple weapons at the same time and dodging while attacking were given as examples)

What people think when they imagine AC as a "souls game":
You boot up Armored Core 6.
    You start a new game.
You select from a series of default AC units.
    "Seek Coral to transcend human".
You spawn in the ruins of some collapsed megastructure.
Fight your way through the ruins of some long bygone sci-fi civilization.
Defeat MT's until you reach a fogwall.
    Go through. Cutscene.
An old and rusted AC unit sits in the middle of an arena. Upon entering the arena, it reactivates, indicated by the glowing red light. Music swells, as the worn out remains of some bygone raven rises up one last time. Scene, and Boss Battle.
Despite being far from it's former glory, the ruined AC proves a challenging foe, and after several attempts, you finally bring it down.
You rest at the bonfire, and spend the coral you received on levels, putting all your stats into Arcane and Adaptability.

Could do something similar to Nier Automata: You arrive to destroy an AC, only when you arrive you can't find it, there's only MT's around. Eventually either it reveals itself as what looked like a dead AC and activates to fight you or assembles itself from multiple smaller 'enemies'
So you could start the level and know where it is, and then see it hiding. I think an AC playing dead or reactivating as a result of something we do could be a really neat concept.

The differences between mh and ac is that in AC you have everything and you have to choose what you want/need to succeed and mh is always about getting stronger by getting better armor with the slots you need. With the exception of maybe needing guard up or something.
There is some puzzle solving at first but it's there to optimize your build not completing change what skills you bring.
Usually you have everything you need on your build already with maybe one or two skills needing to be swapped out for different monsters or swapping element.
AC you do unlock parts which can be better but it's more about solving a puzzle to accommodate the weapons you need to bring for each mission as weight is the main factor. The missions are designed to have you engage with the garage or brute force it and have a unfun time. (Some games are forgiving)
In the older games like ac1 and maybe 2 it was closer to mh because money was also a resource that slowly let you become stronger untill you could afford really good stuff and good parts. But the puzzle solving was always there. Later games you get money very fast.
In 6 i suspect it will be closer to mh because there looks like some really interesting weapons you can have that will let you keep your current build and just change a few things to adapt to each mission. Maybe you'll have to be forced out of the tank playstlye and have to dodge for these bosses but it will probably be more of a swapping of different boosters or something im just guessing how theu expect you to survive some of this stuff without being bipedal. But i doubt they'd screw the other playstyles that hard

@@Subject19-b6b "Soulslike" is an incredibly silly term people use to envelop everything as its convenient and absolutey muddied gaming discussion. I've seen it used in MULTIPLE ways and people flipflop on what they mean in between people having different interpretations. Anyway I see these terms.
      1. "Soulslike" meaning to lift from Souls unabashedly like Code Vein down to near 1:1 transplants of everything in those games, bonfire, estus, souls pick up and leveling, the works. Combat is what you think it is when you hear someone mention "soulslike" in this context, probably rolling around and conserving stamina to hit the boss at opportune moments while avoiding their own combos (not unique to Souls when put into terms like this but I'm sure you get the framing when you imagine the average Souls boss fight, playstyle withstanding when you walk through the average fog gate). I see people applying this to different degrees as well when it comes to things like Sekiro in the 3D action rpg framing where people would debate if its truly a soulslike.
      2. "Soulslike" meaning it'll be difficult, have bosses that may require trial and error with plenty of strategization and builds, a bleak story featuring a decaying world/atmosphere and subtle storytelling, you actually see this when you google Soulslike on wikipedia. But these have been consistent to many of their entries. They're called iconic hallmarks of the Souls series but it's always been part of many of From's catalogue. Side Note: Hollow Knight is pretty funny in this regard as its sandwiched between the two big hotwords "Soulslike" under this working defintion and "Metroidvania" which is another term with this same issue. Lets not even go onto the other layer where people have discussions about if Souls is a "metroidvania-like".
      3. "Soulslike" more recently after all this stuff with the interviews, meaning to have more elements in modern gaming conventions brought in from the last ten years of making Souls games when they said they'd build upon past experience. Now this is where I can think people can just mix and match wtf they want to say as this could extend to anything. Anything from including more pre-boss checkpoints, more intuitive controls, anti-frustration features, etc. I see the opporunity to critical shot on stagger/low health being a "soulslike" element here under this definition when that shit has been everywhere, MH/DMC come to mind but nobody would call that a soulslike, hopefully anyway.

Giant bosses are a staple of the Armored Core series, however these boss fights are definitely reminiscent of prior souls titles.

Telegraphed attacks existed in Armored Core for years, just not nearly to the degree of Souls. Overboosting had a clear startup look and sound, often back cannons will unfurl and, depending on the game, the AC may kneel. How missiles fly towards the player can give them a chance to mitigate, if not fully avoid, them, either through evasion or activating missile interceptor units. Even charging Gen V's Overed weapons can be seen as telegraphing an attack. I've seen a couple people mention how Souls-y it is to see the AC dodge those 3 times even though it's not exactly new to AC.
Again, Souls was much more pronounced when it came to telegraphing attacks, but it wasn't non-existent in AC. Some of the stuff they learned from Souls will be applied to AC6, but it isn't necessarily new to AC in general.
As far as difficulty goes... based on the games you said you finished, it's safe to say you don't quite have a full grasp of AC difficulty. Not to say all AC games are hard, but AC4/FA is, by some, considered 2 of the easiest games in the series. 3 also isn't particularly difficult. But then you have Last Raven or Verdict Day, which would be the two hardest games in the series (although VD at least gave you ways to mitigate difficulty).
And the notion of concentrating on enemy movement and looking for the right time to attack... that *can* be applied to previous AC games (certainly helped me for some certain fights in Last Raven).
TL:DR: A lot of the stuff they have learned from Souls and being applied to AC aren't all new to AC, and has can be seen in previous games. Said things may have been more pronounced in Souls, or otherwise done in a different way. But I'm not denying that they did learn some stuff that can totally be applied here.

I completely disagree with the conclusion that "yes, Vaati was right, they're bringing Souls elements to Armored Core, because theyre bringing telegraphed attacks, that they might be increasing the difficulty" or any of the reasons he mentioned, becauss i also disagree thats the *only* thing that defines a souls game.
What if instead they had said that they brough a combat designer from Capcom that worked on Devil May Cry to help them with bosses, especifically, and telegraphed attacks. Does it mean that just because bosses have more modern takes on bosses and telegraphed attacks that the game is more "Devil May Cry"-ish? No, becsuse its not just the bosses that make a DMC game, and its not the same elements that make a Souls game, those ganes have many other aspects that are aprt of their experience that taking just a fraction lf that and still comparing them doesnt feel right to set expectations. It's all in how people try to compare games.
Yes, they're bringing their experience with recent titles to armored core, yes that will probably make souls fans more likely to enjoy an armored core game than ever before, but to just try to compare it to souls still feels disingenuous to a series that has a lot more going for it. Telegraphed moves on hard bosses are not intrinsically something souls. It is something that they lesrned with souls, and it is fair to tell people that just judging past games will not give the full picture of what AC6 will offer, but to compare it to souls still feels wrong. It's like comparing Valorant to Call of Duty. Yes, they might have similar things going for it, theyre first person shooter games, you aim, tou shoot, you have a team, but those are not enough to compare them as similar experiences, or say "oh hey, this new game, Valorant, has Call of Duty-like mechanics", it wouldn't make any sense.
So, if someone is talking about game elements like better boss designs and just calling them "Souls-like", i would probably tell that person to try playing other games so that they can see thats not really what "Souls-like" means, because thats just a shallower description of the genre. It's why some people got disappointed with Sekiro for not being souls when it's offering a different experience, even if it has bosses with telegraphed moves. Is Sekiro a souls-like? I also dont think so. Does it have "souls-like elements"? I think it has influences from souls, which is natural, but that is not the full picture of the experience. Hence why some people still got disappointed by it because of expectations.
So, going for "hey, people said i was wrong, look now! Telegraphed attacks!" as if he was proving a point still doesn't make much sense to me, and he probably still needs to adjust his terms.
Souls are not really the first to have bosses with telegraphed attacks. We can have examples of those like DMC3. Souls is not the first one with intricate level design that has shortcuts and having the player explore an area, Resident Evil did that first. But what Souls did was take those game elements and put them in a *package,* and that package is what made them souls. Because they formed a new identity, that's what Souls is. Not one element, the *sum of its parts.*
I think it's fair to say a game is "souls-like" when it brings elements together that make it gets closer to what a Souls game is. But we don't have enough information *yet* to call Armored Core a Souls-like. It could end up being one, but we can't just throw terms around because those terms have weight and they can set expectations, and if we keep just throwing those terms around then we can end up with the "this is the Dark souls of X" type of thing all over again and that's a really bad way to describe games, so let's not even come close to that.
I enjoy your content , keep it up \o/

There's a difference between gatekeeping and tempering expectations. I'd like to believe that, every time I've spoken about AC6 to Souls fans, I was taking the latter, not the former. I welcome Souls fan to explore AC6, but it wouldn't surprise me if a significant number concludes that "it isn't for them". That's fine, sometimes a game just isn't for you.
The interviews have already confirmed mission-based design (not open world), where you will likely be paid based on your performance at the end of a mission. With that in mind, it's LIKELY the old AC games in structure: no healing/repairs mid-mission, no reloading, no bonfires, no replenishments. A mission is basically an endurance test of your skill and what you chose to bring with you.
There was also an interview revealing that AC6 has multiple endings. If all goes as I expect it, the narrative intrigue isn't about a deeper background lore and its implications. Rather, it's a striaghtforward, battlefield radio-drama about a few key choices that you make along with completely faceless corporate and mercenary contacts over radio. The mech itself is the most facial identity you'll get from a character.

AC has had bosses in the past, but the focus is in killing them fast through explosive firepower or constant barrage of attacks, not through stats, but through mech design.
Other type of bosses is attacking weakpoints while dodging overwhelming defenses; or straight up fighting other mercenaries' AC build.

While this is only a part of the gameplay in the "core" AC games, with some levels being more scouting missions or escorts or puzzle encounters, a great deal of focus is on the combat and replaying missions to master that combat. Entire releases in the series (Master of Arena, Nine Breaker) have been made with a sole obsessive focus on the mastery of 1v1 mech combat, learning tactics and timings, and perfecting your approach to single encounters before moving on.

    - armored core bosses never had telegraphed attacks which is outright untrue since verdicts day last boss, IBIS from silent line, pulverizers from last raven, the internecine in last raven, 5s last boss, Phantasma in project phantasma, nineball seraph in master of arena, and the answerer from for answer all used telegraphed attacks
-finding the right moment to attack has been in Ac games since well the first one so I don’t why your calling it a new element from souls into ac which you also said u played some of them you should know that
-saying that it’s gonna have a dark souls like lock on is outright wrong since it would not work at all which you should know this since you played 3, 4, for answer, and 5 since dark souls lock on narrows/focuses the view of the players on the targeted enemy which severely limits visibility which would work horribly in ac
-not playing some of the most highly regarded titles such as 2, silent line, and last raven but making it look like you know what ur talking about kinda makes your point flawed as like I said in the telegraphed attacks incorrect
-saying these game aren’t difficult is clear to me you haven’t played master of arena, Another age, Silent line, or last raven since all three of those games are brutal and clearly you needed to play them before you did this video because no offence that is one of the most bizarre takes I’ve ever heard regarding AC lol
just a bonus and a huge criticism on how you responded to vats video that end bit where you pretty much told everyone who played ac and understand more than you by pretty much saying ur objectively right the entire time (which based off of interviews and even gameplay proves that you are wrong) not only makes u look like an absolute moron (I’m not insulting you just telling you the POV of people who adored and know these games will perceive you when you made that statement) but also make you look extremely poor in the eyes of others as well since you made that video about cowboy was right which made you look modest and gave people huge respect to you but you might’ve lost lots of it with that comment you made unnecessarily again this ain’t an attack just criticism

Those aren't souls elements. Anyone who's played Last Raven knows that the game series had some punishing entries. 4 Answer, 5 and Verdict day all feature weapons with large windups that can one shot and MUST be dodged (motherwills cannons, the red chainsaw weapon from 5, the lancer prototype cores in 3, they've always been there and have countless iterations). Those aren't really unique to souls games. Kind of like how soulslike combat isn't even that unique to their own game since Monster Hunter has been doing it since the PS2, or how "darksouls hard" was just a mutation of "nintendo hard".
The point I saw from the AC fans in Vaati's video was mostly: chill out, not everything needs to be souls like, the whole genre has turned into a malignant disease that tries to takeover things that have nothing to do with it. I mean... we've had highly telegraphed AOE attacks since assault armor was introduced.
There's plenty for you souls fans to enjoy, but accept that its going to be an armored core game, and you guys are still fresh to that scene. Some of us been around since PSX. That "souls like" grab attack gave me flashbacks to AC3 more than it did any souls game. Just seems like a heavy reach.

But there are many games with more telegraphed attacks from bosses or more challenging bosses than old AC. Enemies whose moves you have to read. Even ratatoskr can fall into this pattern and unknowingly end up starting AC with AC4, one of the worst starting points you could possibly have imo, just because Miyazaki's name is on it. It even sometimes sounds like Souls was the first game anyone ever played, and now people just call themselves "Souls fans" instead of anything else (like gamer). "Will this be like Souls? Will Souls fans like this?" FFS everything doesn't need to be like Dark Souls for you to enjoy it. I'd argue even the second half of Dark Souls and the DLC was not like Dark Souls, but you probably still completed it.

I feel like a almost everything brought up in this video that "could be like souls" aren't even things that Souls exclusively created or popularized, and some of them were just taking ideas from the past AC games and just upping the ante on them to make them more interesting. Especially everything regarding bosses and pattern recognition which already existed in old AC games anyways, it just wasn't ALWAYS relevant.
Pattern recognition in particular was very important in some fights against other AC's, learning when to dodge or change up your movement whenever they fired something at you, learning when you needed to start backing off if they begin to charge in at you to attempt a blade strike, or knowing the map/surroundings so you don't get screwed by bad positioning, that kind of thing. Its already there. Granted not all fights against other AC's were like that, but there were still plenty over the course of all the games in the series that required learning what made that particular enemy tick and ways you could deal with them, such as changing up your build.
The big bosses are just taking Arms Forts or the massive MT's from past games and making them proper boss fights instead of massive hulking bullet sponges that just shoot a lot, that's just refining ideas from the past games. The biggest possible change from other AC games that isn't just refining old ideas is the aiming, and even then that could just be something similar to For Answer where aiming didn't matter too much as long as it was in your line of sight for a second, only this time the lock-on might just be instantly acquired as long as the target is in the lock box/reticle/general line of sight.
It honestly feels like you and Vaati just WANT to be right instead of ACTUALLY being right.

Honestly, as a Soulsborne fan who has never played an AC game before, I'm most excited for making my own custom mech. I love builds and theorycrafting and IMO the most cool part of any setting with mechs is the mechs themselves (the intergalactic politics from settings like Gundam is a close second). Getting to make my own mech from a ton of very different parts and defining my own gameplay style really resonates with me. I recently watched Josh Strife Hayes's "Was It Any Good" video for AC1 and I'm honestly blown away how even a dinky old PS1 game had so much customization and interesting, meaningful options for making a powerful AC. If AC6 has the same degree of customization, or even more, then I'm going to be very happy and impressed.
I think I'll also appreciate it more than customization options in Soulsborne because even with relatively easy respeccing, customization in Soulsborne games is intended to be long-term. That is to say, you're not really intended to make a build, do a level/boss or two, and then dramatically change your specs. Even in Elden Ring, where you get a lot of Larval Tears, if you respec after every area you'll probably either run out of Tears or be almost out by the time you reach Radagon/Elden Beast. Here, though, if it works anything like AC1, you can completely change your loadout between every mission so long as you have the cash to buy new parts (or if you find them from exploring during missions). Aside from the cost of buying the parts themselves there's no inherent cost to changing your loadout, and in fact there are strong benefits to doing so since two missions may require very different specs. An enclosed mission that involves fighting a lot of mechs might prioritize a bulky build with a lot of guns that can't fly well, whereas an open-air mission with a lot of ranged enemies and cover might prioritize a speedy, flying AC with heat-seeking missiles. From what I saw of AC1, and the snippets of other AC games I've looked at, your build is much more modular and there are a lot more benefits to thinking about different ways to accomplish your goals than there tend to be in Soulsborne. If that's true of AC6 then it's something I'll be really excited for, probably moreso than any Soulsborne game will get me excited for even if I prefer their overall style to the futuristic mech style.

I would say "Exploring" like op is talking about verses looking around a random corner for a part isn't anything like wanting to check out this other part of the map cause you are compelled to explore.
I don't care how cool these environments look (they look sick from this latest trailer) the player is not gunna be thinking about sight seeing, only if it's a tactical advantage to go there. The mindset will always be to complete the mission. That's not because areas aren't interesting but the whole premise of missions is there is no sandbox, you are here for 1 thing and that's it kinda mentality. Finding this hidden area won't open a new path, won't give you access to a new npc or shop. No unique enemies to fight (this one actually could be a thing and that would be amazing but I'm going of previous games) finding a new part just isn't the same thing, just a check list to cross off.
Ironically old Ac games had hidden walls, I wonder if they would bring those back.
But i do agree that most elements in this game will be mistranslated as being added from souls ganes that were already a part of ac 🤭

Yeah, what's most likely the case for ACVI is that it still uses traditional AC mechanics while certain elements, such as the new bosses, are more similar to a Souls game instead of the traditional AC/Massive MT/Arms Forts fights from AC games in the past.
IMO ACVI changing targeting to be super generous would be a shame, FCS has been a key part of balance and building an AC for the entire series. Relegating it to either industrial waste or maybe even entirely changing its function to a more simplified version wouldn't fit into what is turning into a re-launch for a series with such history.

Yeah, people on both sides of this extreme are just being silly. Some people were literally saying it was going to be a Soulslike, and other were basically saying and hoping it would be like a modern AC1 reskin or something. It was always obvious that they would try to make an AC game that fit with modern gaming sensibilities, and use their experience gained over the last decade. That doesn't mean it's a Soulslike in even the slightest, so to say Vaati was "right" is way off. Both sides were wrong, because they both went to each extreme instead of something reasonable, but that's the modern online discourse these days, so I can't say I'm surprised.

I'm so sick being gaslit. In the original Vaati video he did *not* just say there they may take some lessons from Souls and use them to design AC6 nor did Vaati say they the game might have some soulslike elements but will not be a soulslike. He said that there is "good evidence" that it will be soulslike , and the reference to "soulslike elements" is in reference to the leaker who came off as obviously not familiar with Armored Core as a series when the descrption game out. It was not in reference to Vaati's initial prediction in the video. I went back and checked when vaati released their latest video and I went back and checked now. If you guys just let it go it would just be a meme but now it is downright insulting, not to mention wrong.
Yes, the game has more of a boss focus (edit: which we already knew so how is this a dunk?) than previous Armored Cores, which includes things like telegraphed attacks, although even ACV and VD had some telegraphed attacks but granted those game were coming out side by side with Souls games at the time.
In terms of difficulty it is true that Armored Core varies a lot, but I'd say the tougher fights and games in the series, especially Last Raven, are on par with Souls bosses. Especially Final Zinaida who can be pretty brutal.

Yes they are learning and taking lessons from Souls games, just as they have learned lessons with all their games. Yes you might see some specific little elements like cluster bomb launchers resembling firecrackers, or even, you know, shields (though those have existed since like gen 3). But jumping does not make Elden Ring a Mario like, nor does having horses make it a red dead like. AC6 having jump pads does not make it an Elden Ring like, and having colossal bosses does not make it a Shadow of the Colossus like
