  • So I "stole" the idea of a pre-build run from Valarie Reese (link below). To build with wood and welded wire would have been over $700! But this was less than $350 (with Michelle's discount for working for Amazon) and it wound up being JUST what we needed!

    Nice run. I'm happy to have inspired you. Steve put a hose over the top of ours so we can easily water our garden. I can't wait to start planting.

    Those screws on the outside will hinder you putting the wire on it.

    How is the run holding up? Has it been worth the $ 300.00 bucks ?

    thank you for showing in detail how it is assembled, I am thinking of getting 2 or 3 of them and connecting them together next to my lanai and have my 10 cats there enjoy outside. How sturdy the frame is to your opinion, how much wind it can withstand? I live in coastal northern Florida.Thank you

      The frame withstood some high winds since I put it up (maybe gusts to 40 or 45) but will definately not hold up if a hurricane went by.

    I purchased this exact one from Amazon and it's been a nightmare. It came with 250 zip ties and I needed to order a couple hundred more. The door is horrible on mine. I also have a bunch of wire sticking out which can easily hurt the chickens. So now I have to cover all the connections with PVC or something to prevent them from getting cut. My hands are covered in cuts after going in and out of the wire with those zip ties almost 300 times. Great video though!

      If i read your comment,,,, please order a handyman. A bunch of wire sticking out? Cut it of! Plastic zip Ties? Use real wire. Mine is perfect and installed on heavy wooden beams with rustfree screws. For that money try to build a wooden one! Yes, you have to improve it a little, but its perfect and it Will stay where it is in heavy winds.👍

      @scooping dutchman This was an ordered kit that came with the plastic zip ties. I don't think you realize how the wire is sticking out. I've talked to the company and they have agreed with me on the issues that I brought up. Anywhere you cut the wire netting, the ends are still exposed. They advised to wrap this netting around the pole. You can do that once but when you have to secure another piece to it which is required, you can't wrap both. It's a very poor design and yes I'm making modifications to fix the issues. My first coop build and I certainly would have gone your suggested route with wood if I would have known.

      @@Hallberg16 understand everything. But it is at low cost. And you have to be the engineer youself! Make it predator, wind, and badass proof. ADD Some extras.. the plastic ty wraps are shit. Whitin one year of sommer sun,, they are gone! Use real wire. Even peaces of copper electrical wire ( left overs) you can use! I am happy with it. Even its Made of chinesium steel!👍💪🏼🤜 Good luck and improve.

    birds escaping is not the problem, the problem, is things trying to get themselves some chicken. Everything eats chicken.

    • @AverageJay12
      @AverageJay12  Год назад +1

      For sure but the area we live in doesn't have a ton of predators. Not zero but very little action on nighborhood chickens in the last two years. Fingers crossed, lol!

      @@AverageJay12 I fought a different battle, from foxes, raccons to possums. Imagine walking into a coop, shining the light around, and catching a possum in the act. the fox was relentless, he was smarter then I was. I'd let them out for an hour, and be watching them, and he's snag one.

      Pretty good but my advice would be to use stronger zip ties than the ones provided. Other than that it is working out really well!

    Don't waste money on this Chinese crap. You can build it from wood for less and have a secure 20 year age. this junk weighs 18 pounds. Think about that!
