      It's nice to see him react but better to see someone else who isn't aware of JP that is also female seeing what he actually has to say for the first time rather than having a biased opinon based on what people say about him. I think it says a lot about his critics whom are merely attacking whom they think he is rather than the argument itself.

    Just a quick correction at the end. When he says 'Openness' and 'Conscientiousness', he's talking about two of the big 4 psychological personality traits each person possesses in varying degrees. They are a high level abstractions of the various underlying mechanisms of a person's psyche and are based on long standing psychological research. The big four are openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness and extraversion.
    Openness is a person's willingness to engage with new experiences are information.
    Conscientiousness is a person's willingness to diligently work, essentially forgoing immediate gratification and comfort for more long term goals.
    Agreeableness and Extraversion are pretty self explanatory.

    Jordan Peterson is one of the most important people to know about, in my opinion. I can't really explain it, but listening to him has made me realize alot of my own innerworkings, and things I specifically need to focus on getting better at. Essentially, he told me why I was mad, and what to be mad at, and more importantly what not to blame.

    18:40 Openness to experiences, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Neuroticism, or OCEAN is a personality model. It's used to profile people and thus categorize and predict. Openness to new experiences is what it sounds like, willing to try out new stuff. Openness is also in an indicator of intelligence, because intelligent people are also curious. Though extremely high openness is a predictor of substance abuse.
    Conscientiousness is basically how organized someone is. You can say someone whose room is messy is low in conscientiousness. It also is about how much planning one does and how calculating someone is with their actions, like people who constantly try to plan out their future to quite some details. Edit: interestingly, conscientiousness shows a negative association with intelligence, though not as strongly as openness does (about -3% and +10% iirc). One theory is because intelligent people don't have to build up this trait because they can just wing it.
    All the five has many subdivisions called facets, so this is just a surface level explanation. Nice video!

    • @joelbwrites1996
      @joelbwrites1996 2 года назад +2

      I've also heard Peterson say Openness is similar to creativity. Or maybe creativity is one aspect of Openness.
      So you can imagine a couple where one was extremely creative and the other was not creative at all, might cause a lot of friction.

    • @thatman3107
      @thatman3107 2 года назад +2

      @@joelbwrites1996 that is definitely a part of it. But being open can even be like taking a new road to go somewhere. The one who is low in openness will not like this at all. Small things like this actually cause more friction over time than being creative or not.

    Dr Jordan Peterson is a clinical psychologist for decades. Unlike other academics that simply read theories, Dr Peterson talks from actual cases with real people. Example. Many people on the left call him a transphobe, but if you look into his past, he helped many transpeople in his practice that have gone on record to say he is NOT a trasnphobe. He just doesn't like authoritarianism, and that includes things like forcing people to use pronouns or be fines/jailed/lose your kids for not using pronouns due to personal and religious reasons. I met Dr Peterson in person, and after this lecture, I did a meet and greet with him. Unlike other meet and greets with other authors who changes their personalities based on who is watching. Dr Peterson actually stopped what he was doing and gave me his full attention as I told him my cultural identity issues that were driving me to suicidal thoughts. He sat with me for 30 minutes and gave me some great advice . No selling. No guru cop out one liners. Just a person listening and showing actual care as a individual. That was 5 years ago in Vancouver. He put me on a path where I am in a much happier and confident place in my life and rarely have those dark thoughts I used to have.

      To be specific, it was Bill C16, that forced people, through the legal system, to use specific pronouns on specific people.

    18:35 the personality trait isn't consciousness it's conscientiousness which includes orderliness and industriousness (f.e. diligence), and openness as a personality trait can mean how accepting or refusing you are towards something new or atypical and it's also the biggest marker for creativity and I think intelligence as well.
    Context: Jordan was saying that it might create irreconcilable differences if you and your partner have big differences within these two markers.

    Having leaned to the left for most of my life and now leaning right I have noticed that, in general, conservatives debate more and give more space for cotradiction than the left. I always see that the left uses much more ridiculing, ignoring issues, labeling people and so on than the right. And this lack of thinking "I'm right, but let's really listen to them so that we can break their arguments" is one of the many reasons I tend to the right to a certain degree and absolutely will probably never ever ever support the left again in politics unless this scenario changes in the future.

      @@creativeartivity That's why I said "much more... than" because it is never absolute. But the left does not usually base their thoughts on statistics, or meticulous historical analysis, it's much more on personal experiences, feelings, generalizations, and opinions both in the US and my country, Brazil. There is a clear pattern in the kind of arguments each group uses. And I'm not talking about any common person on the street. I'm talking about the so-called "professors" and specialists, especially from the left who use arguments with no scientific method, but with lots of feelings and "you don't know what it is to be...".
      On the right, the common idiot is the aggressive type, but even they like numbers and statistics except for the conspiracy theorists. The left prefers feelings and "you can't talk about that because you don't have this or that characteristic". Shutting people down is the specialty of the modern left and I have heard sooooo often "I don't care about statistics", and "there you go with numbers again..." The old left was not as evil or at least not as explicitly manipulative.

      But yes. I've noticed the same thing about leftists. Its very very difficult to talk calmly with them. I've tried so many times to be calm and polite, but they almost always get emotional. They almost see you as "evil" if you don't agree with them. They tend to be outright passive-aggressive bullies much of the time. And they feel justified in doing so. Little is more dangerous than an ideology that justifies bad behavior. This just my experience. And I have met plenty of old-school liberals who are not like this. Im a sort of center right libertarian, and i listen all left stuff, that confirms to me every time that im not a left person, emotionally i think a little bit, pragmatically and scientifically not leftist at all.

    Openness means how willing you are to accept new and free flowing environments and elements coming into and out of your life and conscientiousness is how structured and placed within your own foundations you seem to be, put simply, the opposite to openness.

    Dr. Peterson has so much insight and intelligence concerning the human condition that it amazes me how badly he’s vilified.

    Oh man, never thought worlds would collide like this. My favorite reaction channel on RUclips reacting to none other than Jordan Peterson.
    Dr. Peterson has had a profound impact on my life, helping me through a dark phase by talking about meaning and responsibility. I have been following his work for over 3 years now, and it just fills me with joy that his message is resonating with audiences far and wide.
    I feel like Dr. Peterson is someone who (albeit how "popular" he already is in the western world) will be regarded as one of the most prolific thinkers of our time much, much later after he's gone and all the short-lived controversy that currently surrounds him (owing to misinterpretations, cancel culture and intolerance) has long died out.
    Thank you for this reaction Jaby. Please react to more of his content on RUclips asap!

    Openness is open to more ideas
    People high on opennes are more open to new ideas/changes-more liberal/more creative and likely to change their surroundings
    People low on opennes are less open to new ideas - traditional/grounded/less inclined to change their surroundings

    You can use Myers-Briggs model (MBTI) as a frame of reference. Openness would be equivalent to intuition (high in openness) vs sensing (low in openness). Conscientiousness would be equivalent to Judging (high in conscientiousness) vs Perceiving (low in conscientiousness).

    Openness to experience and Conscientiousness refer to two of the (5) Domains of personality according to DSM-5 (which is the bible of psychology basically) the other 3 are Extroversion, Agreeableness & Neuroticism (the acronym OCEAN might help remembering that).
