Every Monday I offer audition advice and personal stories about what I've learned in the musical theatre business so far. This is my offering to the theatre community during the pandemic and Broadway Shutdown of 2020.
Be blessed and good luck on all of your auditions... whenever we get back to that stage. Happy song hunting!

Such an amazing soon. Even though I’m 16, the Lion King is my dream one day and I possibly even wanna audition for for ensemble. I may be young, but I will not give up. Any tips?
Hi! Thank you so much!
I think that it is incredible that you already know exactly what you want to do, and where you want to be. I didn't figure that out until I was 24 and if I'm being honest, I'm still figuring it out. My advice to you, is to get into those dance courses and singing lessons. Keep a positive attitude. And when you see an open call for the Lion King in a few years, go and check it out. They have open calls all of the time. Most times it takes several auditions to get in, but don't give up. Remember, if it's meant for you, it will be for you. But in the meantime, you can continue to work on those basic skills and sharpen them, so that you're ready. Sending my best to you!
@@32BARCUT thanks so much! I was just thinking that I don’t need to rush at such a young age, I still have more time to developer and become stronger at what I want to do. Thanksb
This is such a beautiful story!!!
Thank you so much!!
Beautiful story! Thank you for sharing your story. Good things come to those who wait humbly!!
Thank you so much!
Also I can't lie but I burst into tears! It's just such a joyous story!!!!

This was so inspiring! Thank you for being so honest. As a current Junior Musical Theatre Major it is so helpful to hear from people like you who have so much knowledge and hope to give. I truly appreciate and admire people like you.
Thank you so much Hannah! 💗
Great story.
I felt so bad for her when she was late to her movement audition…. 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. However, I’m glad that the rest of the audition went very well. Even if she lost the role to the other actress, it must of been an honor to wear that Nala headpiece. I’m so happy for her for that she won the role of Nala. The Lion King is a show that holds a special place in my heart, especially that back in 2001, on the Friday of 9/11 😪🙏🏼 (I saw this show in The Pantages Theatre here in Los Angeles). I envy her that she gets to play one of my favorite Broadway musical characters I wish I can play.
Beautifully given. Thank you sooooooooo very much Adrienne for sharing your story. You have inspired all of us. Keep rising young woman!
Thank you so much!

Beautiful story!! I also am guilty of wearing character shoes to singing auditions… THANK YOU
Ha! Don’t do it Sis! Thanks for watching! Break legs!
Hello! I found your video in my search for audition advice and I love it!❤️
I’m going to be submitting an email audition for the Lion King but this is quite literally my first time ever audition for something like this. Ive been in music my whole life but always in the pit for musicals. What I’m getting stuck on is type of music to audition with. I was thinking about doing a piano rendition of “Killing Me Softly” since it calls for “Rock and Roll, R&B, or Pop”. I can add in lots of vocal technique and “spice” but I’m worried it will be too boring?? Or maybe something like Liza Minnellis New York, New York???
I just basically have no idea what judges are going to want to hear. If you have any advice on choosing an audition song, I would be so grateful but no pressure of course. Thank you!!!❤️❤️❤️
Hi Jessica!
I think “Killing Me Softly” is a nice choice, but I agree with you in that it may be too boring or repetitive. If you have other more varied pop/rock choices in your book, I suggest that you choose a song that shows your vocal range and story telling talent. They will be looking for someone who can sing AND tell the story through song.
Best of luck to you! Break a leg! Thank you so much for watching our channel!
Adrienne
❤❤❤
❤️
Hi! I am self taping for the email submissions. Should I do the full song, or should I do a 32 bar cut? I’m doing Son of a Preacher Man for my audition. Thank you!
Hi Mary! A 32 bar cut is almost as good as the whole song, just make sure the cut makes musical sense and shows the best parts of your voice. If there’s an intro, keep it short, no more than 2 bars. Break a leg! And thanks for watching!!
Hi, you mentioned you're audition song 'raven' may I ask who is it by?
Hi! It’s from Brooklyn the Musical
can someone explain which ones are the character shoes?
Hi Ytzel! Character shoes are heels made for dance class, rehearsal, and sometimes dance calls. They are a heeled shoe ranging from 1.5" - 3" and are generally flesh tone or black. It is not in good taste to wear them for general singing/acting calls, but for dance calls and rehearsals only. Thank you for watching!
@@32BARCUT thank u soo much !!
I have a question how long did it take to get a call back
I think I waited a week and some change.
Thanks for watching and subscribing!
