Bless you both, these videos really serve the acting community. Now I find myself in the year 2024 are you still answering questions? I hope, Q- Im a AEA member I live in Seattle Wa. I'd love to audition for Telsey and Co. Hamilton and all the other shows. Is video really an option for someone like me? PS I made it to 5 callbacks for Mufasa in Lion King but after that got discouraged because I live so far away. I did however recently book King Triton in 5th Ave theatre's production of Little Mermaid which was a Flying by Foy show. Epic fun and booking that lit a fire to keep trying. Please let me know how I can even be seen by these casting folks so I can "get into the room where it happens" Thanks TK
This was amazing - thank you both for making this. I think Austin has played for a couple of my Hamilton auditions, so it's nice to hear his insight! Thanks for this phenomenal channel Adrienne - I've been binging for the past week. Haha!
Watching this made me so sad but also happy and grateful for all the amazing advice! I was sent a packet by the Telsey Office for Hamilton once and I didn’t make it into that second round. But I’m hopefully I’ll get another crack at it sometime! I know I’m late, but thank y’all for the helpful video!! ❤️
Thank you for making this video! I don't even live in the US so I don't know if I would ever audition for Hamilton, but it's very interesting to hear a music associate talk about a specific show and the requirements, it gives us a little hint of the thought process behind casting a certain show. Much love from Amsterdam!
As a classically trained musician, I particularly appreciated Austin's directive on singing the score how the composer wrote it. The music is their creation, their baby. You don't go into someone's house and re-arrange their furniture!! Those rests, 16th notes, dynamics, etc. are there for a reason. Ignore them at your own peril. Many thanks, Austin.
This is so moving especially those who persist to keep going in for the same long running show. Still been auditioning for WICKED (to be Boq) and BOOK OF MORMON (to be Elder Cunningham) a lot. Sometimes with going in and NOT getting a callback, I have those worries the people at the table are gonna be like "Oh, god. Him again?! Thought we told him no" which is NOT true. But you get those fears. Plus do I keep repeating the same time to keep improving myself or always change it up?
What’s the callback process like during covid times? I got past 2 rounds of callbacks thru self tapes for the dancer track and now I got an invited appt to do it in person! What should I expect?
This is absolutely amazing! Are there any "DONTS" when it comes to choosing your own pop/rock song to sing as a dancer in the first round of auditions?
There are many don'ts haha, it may be best to just give you the "do's." Most important is to pick a song that shows off your voice the best. Doesn't matter what song it is, as long is it has a clear melody that showcases your voice well, is actable, has a good piano accompaniment for the accompanist, and that you love to sing. If you aren't enjoying it, they won't either. Trust me on that. :) Let us know if you have a more specific question. Break a leg!
What are some good audition songs for a soprano going in to audition?? I’m auditioning and I’m not sure of what song to do yet 😩 they’re asking for a pop/rock song and I have a few ideas but none that I’m 100% set on uet
@@32BARCUT ahhhh bless you's! It seemed to go ok-ish! l sang all three sisters and must confess I was certainly apprehensive about the high harmony in Schuyler Sisters! But I did that twice and then they had me do Maria song, which they then re-directed and I did again, and they seemed pleased that I took on the direction, and then I did Angelica song and was re-directed again and so did that twice through. I haven't heard back, but I really did enjoy the experience. I come from a 'pop' background, so am not used to auditioning for shows at all. This was my second in-person audition ever! I'm so grateful for your channel, cause even though I am London-based, I am just learning so much. Sorry for long message! I really wanted to message you guys, straight after the audition!x
I definitely took on board what you said about learning the score inside and out, as much as I could (I don't read music, but the plunk track was great) I feel like if I hadn't watched this I would have relied on the cast recording!
I absolutely love this channel❤️🙌🏾. Do you know anything about Hamilton Boot Camp? Would that be considered another audition or after Boot Camp are you offered the job? Keep up the great content🙌🏾
Hey Reynaldo! Thanks so much! We are so glad you are here with us. Yes, boot camps are a long form audition. It's a way for the team to get to better prep the actors in all of the audition material while also vetting their talent, skill, work ethic and attitude. Never a promise of a role at the end. No job offer, but if you find yourself in a Hamilton boot camp, you are one step closer to landing the job.
AUSTIN!! 😁I can still remember waaayyyy back in the day when I auditioned for a show in Chicago and Austin was the music director and accompanying as well, he's seriously the best! I need to catch up on the videos!
Hi... my name is Jesse Canamore. I’m a new thespian and I’m auditioning for Hamilton to at least be in the ensemble. Can you talk about the online auditions because I was told to send a video
Hey Jesse! Congrats! Do you have a specific question about your submission or are you asking how to submit? Check out hamiltonmusical.com/auditions/ if you haven't yet!
@@32BARCUT well I was asking is online auditions different than in person ones.. I have a strong passion for music and theater and I was just wondering if there was anymore tips or advice given for video auditions
@@TheeMiracleChild They are similar, but it's important to remember to submit your absolute best work for the video audition. Take time to make sure the sound and video settings are good, you are well lit, and that your audition is killer. Then, remember that they are mostly just looking at "type" when they view online auditions. So, don't take it personally if you don't hear anything back. Just submit again in a few months, and perhaps, a position will be available of which you are the exact type they are looking for! Break a leg!
I Truly and Really appreciate this so much! Because I’m trying to audition for Hamilton, because I really feel confident and praying I do well and succeed. I’ve been listening to the music non-stop(pun unintended). And acting out the scenes at home. For any character, because it’s so much fun. So I’m looking forward to auditioning this year. Now the first question is, when emailing the audition tapes, it tells you specifically on what to do, and theirs the one that says do a POP-COUNTRY SONG, and I was wondering if I only have to do that. Or can I do one of the songs from the Musical. And my second question is when going to the audition on the stage in front of the casting director. Do they give you what they want to see performed(Like A specific song for the musical), or do we just perform whatever? Please and Thank Ya Sugar
If they ask for POP/COUNTRY, then definitely do that, nothing from the show. If in front of casting, they will tell you exactly what to do in your audition. They will say either "prepare a 16/32 bar cut in the style of the show" OR "prepare the attached sides." Break legs!
It's extensive. For dance, there are multiple dance calls audition rounds because the dancing is so extensive and specific in the show. For music, the dancers will sing 16 bars from their own book first, then learn a few songs from the show on the callback, then work with the music team for the next callback, and then finally sing and dance for the entire team. There may even be more rounds than that. This is a very basic summary, but hopefully it gives you an idea! Break legs!
You’re videos are literally so so so so amazing!! I have a question about the hamilton audition. I submitted through the website and received a callback through Actors Access. I submitted that and it was due back on May 6th. Does Hamilton take a while to get back to people. Does it mean that I’m not moving on in the audition process?? Thank you!!!
Sometimes, yes, it doesn't necessarily mean a hard "no." It might just mean there are no open slots in your type right now. Give it a few months and resubmit. Keep at it! And, above all, don't take it personally. Break a leg!
If I am submitting for King George, is singing one of his songs, since it is that one song with different lyrics in essence, from the show, or some other pop song or show song? Do you have any other songs for a King audition that you could say are a “like this?” I want to do Wings of a Swan, or Can You Imagine That, from Mit Eventyr. But my head is saying to just do one of the King’s songs. And if so, is it best to do You’ll Be Back for the range, or I Know Him for the comedy and “mad” character?
You can do one of the King's songs or yes, pick your own. But your own song choice should include 1) The Vocal range that KG3 demands, 2) The comedy in the lyrics that KG3 exudes and 3) the musical style of the Beatles which KG3 loves. You'll be back is the best of the 3 KG3 songs to know. If you can find your own song that has the 3 qualities mentioned, that would be a stronger choice for an audition situation. Hope this helps!
@@32BARCUT awesome. Cheers! I kinda figured that You’ll Be Back would be the one if you’re gonna do one of the show songs it better be the one with the punch, eh? I’ve been rehearsing all (which is just slightly difficult because it’s the same song with different lyrics. Even keeping the message and meaning of each “letter” being sung, the similarities are so close that it’s been a big exercise is focus and concentration. Lol. I don’t dance so it’s the only role I could do anyway in this show. And having had been up for Book of Mormon a few years ago, I think this role would be a great way to get back onto the stage from doing voiceovers in recent years.
hi!! first of all, i loveeee your videos. second... i'm an actor/dancer here in Brasil, and i have a dream of like do a broadway show, i know that being a brazilian green actor, this will be more than complicated, but with that being said, how can i like... start? hahahahaha. i'm lost, what should i do? someone?
Thanks so much! Its hard to say exactly what you should do to start, but we can tell you this- there is no one right way to make it on Broadway! Best thing to do is to hone your skills there in Brasil. Get involved with as much theater and classes as you possibly can. Then, when you are ready to make the leap, come to New York for a brief stint to give it a try! See if you like it here in New York, network and see as much theater as you can, audition and reevaluate after a few months. Keep us posted on your journey! You got this!
