What light do you use for the hair light? And how do you hang it up? Thank you!
I feel like your catch phrase should be, "Don't be like me . . . Be like YOU." Thank you for sharing, Adrienne! I really enjoyed and appreciated hearing from you about your experience, reflections, and advice. :) Take care, and be well! Glad you are creating. <3
Great stuff from you guys ❤
This seems like a lot but to those that may find this too expensive, get it it as best quality as possible and focus on giving a phenomenal performance
THANK YOU SO MUCH - I, too, suffered a setback with my voice too. Although it was awful, it taught me so much - especially the question you raised, "Who am I without my voice?" - I managed to get to the other side of that question - even if I never sang again I'm still worthy of love and happiness.
Thank you for your vulnerability.
LOVE THIS SO MUCH. I'm sending this to my students who I want to serve with the same heart you've demonstrated here.
WOW - this was one of THE BEST and most thorough videos I've seen on this subject. Way to go y'all. AMAZING.
This is such a helpful video. I was just cast as an understudy for Middle Alison/Joan in Fun Home, and I feel more prepared to take it on knowing the norms/what to expect.
Thank you for making this! What is a book though?
Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you. I have a small house and not much space. As a result, I have made a corner area of my living space for my self tapes. I also live on a street where there are cars driving by. I just purchased some mics, etc.
Hi😊
oof! There are auditions we will NEVER speak of again . . .
I am from Brasil. I had a little experience there. I am trying to learn and be prepared to work here. I really like all you have shared. Thank you for the information. How do shoukd I start if I have not done acting school? I can't wait to see the other videos. 😊
Thanks for this video! I was just wondering how current the pop song should be to be classed as current pop? Would a 2014 song be too old now? Thanks for your time! 🙏
Thank you so much! I just started on a show that is quite vocally demanding and I'm in in for at least 4 moths and want to maintain my health (vocal, physical and mental)!
I have an interesting question for you: now that Actors Equity has phased out the EMC program and implemented the Open Access program for joining the union, what are your thoughts on that? I personally wished they would've kept the EMC program so that I didn't make the mistake of joining the union via Open Access in an area where there's more non-union houses than union houses in my community.
Wow, this is so inspiring. I’m on a journey now that feels so relatable. I too, grew up in a church environment where my parents taught me music from birth but nothing about secular music. I was in a very very small town but I started taking voice lessons and piano/brass lessons young. I’ve always had a very strong ear. I went to music school after I graduated high school, but my only option was classical, which I didn’t love. I ended up leaving music for years because I felt so disconnected to it. I never knew that musical theatre was a career I could pursue and I truly wish I did. I found my love for music again about 6 years ago through joining a show choir. I know lead this choir and after having two babies, I’m looking to do something for myself. All I want to do is sing and perform and I am so passionate about moving forward with it. So here I am now, watching all of your videos, learning and gaining confidence to take these next steps. Feeling like an imposter stepping into this world because I haven’t gone to theatre school. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
What a valuable and generous thing it is for you to share your audition video. Thank you 🙏🏻
Tip number two trumpets
Voice range
Great tips ❤❤❤
I did “she loves me” and “into the woods” in college; I love theatre.
How long after a final call back did you hear that you’ve booked the job? Will they tell you if you didn’t?
This was very beneficial for me. As a new theater actor this has given me some great tips. Thank you two for sharing these tips with us
Wow! such a beautiful voice and a performance 🥰
Number 11: “The Hater” The Hater is known for looking down their nose at everyone else in the audition room. The Hater sees themselves as above the other actors, and comes up with dehumanizing nicknames for them . The Hater is prone to judgement and cynicism. Often, The Hater is annoyed by other people existing. If you are over prepared, under prepared, breathing too loudly, stretching, or even being too friendly, you are sure to annoy The Hater.
Do they ever do chemistry reads with other called back actors at this level?
just got my first understudy gig as “orpheus” in hadestown! this really helped me! thanks 🙏
thank you for this! i gotta film my first ever audition this week and i had absolutely no idea how to do it, this has been so helpful!!
Such great recollections - thank you both! On my first West End audition I was auditioning for West Ends biggest casting director. I was asked to prepare a pop songs and I decided to sing one of my all time favorite songs 'New York State of Mind' - I knew this so well and long before I became an actor - this was was in my very core. I have just been called and as I am walking up the stairs, a friend of mine was coming down and he is a tad upset. He said to me in passing "if he picks up his phone he doesn't like you" this was said with some venom. Well, I walked in knowing I was going to do a great job. I greeted the two auditors and walked over to the accompanist and told him what I was going to sing. I had marked everything well - he said great. I gave him the tempo. I walked over to my spot and I did my slate. Just as I was finishing my slate this guy picked up his phone. The music started and I completely forgot the opening line of the song. I tried again but nothing. I haven't been asked back since. A very small part of me wants to blame him, because I feel what he did was rude and unprofessional. Ultimately, however, it is my fault for not doing what I went in to do. WE learn from these moment.
Excellent video! So amazingly detailed! Thank you for breaking all of those aspects down to a science. Thank you so much for blessing us with this video! Peace and blessings to you both! ❤
I was 51 when my wife heard me sing for the first time, this was in 2012 - we had been together nearly 29 years at the time, and I still sing. My career was going well and then Covid came. I haven't acted since, but I still sing and I still work on my rep - A LOT! I adore performing.
i got to play nala in the lion king for my youth theader and you helped me so much 🩷🩷🩷

Watching this and hearing the excitement of the audience gave me goosebumps like I was there. You two gave a beautiful account of how magical that night was.
This is great you guys. I'm heading into my first theater in person audition tomorrow morning in YEARS as i've been doing mostly commercials and film lately. This was a perfect pep talk. 😊
👏👏👏👏
This was such an inspirational video. Thank you for sharing your story! I started crying right before you teared up😭😂
Hi guys. I joined Equity after a National NU tour. I've been union since last year. Since that time, I've gotten one union staged reading...that's it. I've paid my bills nannying. I was excited to actually audition for Bway shows, until I'd see those shows advertised months later starring some Hollywood celebrity in the role(s) I auditioned for. I realize now that when I joined the union, though I'd be in the room more, it was so unlikely that I'd get cast because I was competing with celebrities that would sell tickets. Very disheartening and...enlightening. I used to get regularly called back as an NU actor. In a full year of Equity auditions, I've not gotten one Equity callback. Again, very disheartening; so much so, that I've considered returning to a NU status so that I could audition for things i'm interested in--including tours--that I feel like I'd have an actual shot at. So yes, I get in the rooms, yes, I get seen, but that's sort of what my dues currently pay for :/ Your thoughts/feedback?
What a helpful, self-less and generous tutorial! I hope you are successful at whatever you are doing!
Thank you! What an invaluable resource you all have cultivated🙏🏿🙌🏿
Great story.
This video gave me so much life you don’t even know!
Are you guys still here? Lol are you coming back to post more videos? 😢
As a nonunion actor myself, I gotta say, this is true. Since I live in North Carolina, which is a right to work state, not being part of the union allows me to have a lot of freedom, and it's not just broadway shows. There's a lot of anime dubs, video games, commercials, and indie films that are nonunion. Without a SAG card, I get to work in smaller, independent works like student films and B-movies. Lots of benefits of being nonunion.
