“This is a performance not an evaluation” I think has single-handedly cured all my audition nerves 😂 I was always so fkn TERRIFIED of my song rep classes and exams in university and I feel like every audition I’ve been to since then I’ve been associating with that in my mind but that’s so fkn true: it’s not an evaluation. It’s not an assessment. It’s just a performance.
Thank you, Austin, for encouraging those "behind the table, to look pleasant and engaged. I truly appreciate you both constantly beating the "be prepared" drum! Preparation decreases anxiety and allows you to perform.
@@VirtualTeachingPro yes! that's been sooo helpful! i don't regret it b/c i learned something about auditioning for cruises...different animal and now i know how to prepare a bit better :)
I was 51 when my wife heard me sing for the first time, this was in 2012 - we had been together nearly 29 years at the time, and I still sing. My career was going well and then Covid came. I haven't acted since, but I still sing and I still work on my rep - A LOT! I adore performing.
Thank you both so much for this! This is beyond helpful. Took notes and I’m ready to get back to performing. This will be my first audition as an adult!
This is great you guys. I'm heading into my first theater in person audition tomorrow morning in YEARS as i've been doing mostly commercials and film lately. This was a perfect pep talk. 😊
This came at a good time I have ab audition coming up! Unfortunately I can't kick this cough I have from a recent cold. Hopefully my voice is stronger by then. I'm also starting late in life this gave me hope!
This is actually very reassuring. I just did my first in-person professional music theatre audition today (I graduated during Covid). I felt prepared with my two songs and two sides. I felt pretty good about it but it only lasted TWO minutes, just the duration of one song! I just sang my song. They said thank you. I said thank you to everyone. And that was it. I was smiley. They were smiley. But damn I can’t tell. I flew interstate for a two minute audition 🥲
Hello kind people first off thank you for being who you are and serving the acting community. Q--Last fall I booked a show at 5th ave theatre over here in Seattle Wa. (yes a long way from NYC) My question is how can I get an audition for a broadway show if I'm so far away? Are self taping audition still even an option for me? Or will I have to save up cash for a ticket to NY and take my chances. I've flown cross country and auditioned in the past and with all the variables (known and unknown) that you wisely speak one it leaves me shaken heartbroken and feeling like I wasted time and hard earned money. Note your videos are a big help, they encourage me to get back out there and try. But again How do I? if I'm so far away. Btw the show and role I booked was King Triton in 5th Ave theatre here in Seattle. I await your answer. Peace and thanks. TK
Hi! Make sure to test your sound with playback before you get rolling to make sure you can both be heard. It may require a few adjustments to your microphone placement in the room. The worst thing ever is to complete an audition only to realize it's not viable. Do a couple of tests and listen to the playback.

Yes, I spent about $800 to leave the tour for a day, fly to NYC, sing 32 bars and get, "thank you!" haha!
We feel your pain! I have done that a a few times and it always hurts the bank and the ego! Hang in there! One day, it will be worth it.
@@32BARCUT :)
same here. On the flip side at least most are doing eco casts for the first couple rounds.

Do you have a video about dance calls? Strategies for actors/singers.
We don't have one yet, but we feel your pain!
