It would be a joy to see an extended version of this interview with all the "long stories" because I bet they are fabulous from Nathan! Looking forward to see who you interview next...
I absolutely agree that an extended version would be wonderful, and another commenter here suggested a one-person show where he talks about his career. That would be wonderful, too. Although, I would imagine that after a while of talking about one's career every night, a person would get pretty tired of it.
My granddaughter turned 16 and I took her on an NYC theatre trip. One of the shows turned out to be the first preview of Gary. An obviously exhausted Nathan Lane appeared at the stage door to a long line of admirers. Hers was his last autograph at the end of a long day. A true class act and national treasure.
Loved watching this. I feel like Nathan Lane is one of those people who remembers every actor he's ever worked with. You can tell how much he respects and loves theater.
Saw him in Forum once and he came out from backstage at one point with a cup of coffee for a guy who had fallen asleep in one of the front rows. Classic. 😆
Nathan Lane is such a good storyteller. I could listen to his stories for hours. I also love how much he praises his co-stars, the directors, and the writers.
Nathan should do a one-man biographical show where he recounts his life and career. I could listen to his stories all day. Thanks to Playbill, though for this snippet. I loved it!
I’m getting emotional just watching him talk about his career. I’m so lucky to have seen even a small number of these performances. Nathan Lane is one of the greatest performers out there and I’ve absolutely loved him throughout my life.
Nathan Lane is a wonderful actor and he is so talented on Broadway. I admire him so much. I am so happy for his Broadway success.❤❤❤ We all love you Nathan.
He is just a delight-I’m so happy I’ve had the opportunity to see him on stage a few times. There is no one who seems more entirely at home and at ease on a Broadway stage than Mr. Lane.
I love Nathan Lane. I'm so sorry that I have never been able to see him perform on stage. I HAVE seen a lot of his interviews and appearances on T.V. and in movies. I'm very glad for the filmed version of The Producers and I think he is great in The Birdcage.
My first trip to NY, and the first musical I saw on Broadway was The Addams Family. I loved it so much. I was in tears from laughing, and played that CD constantly for a long time after. Such a brilliant career, a wonderful retrospective.
Extraordinary. Aussie here who was extremely fortunate to see Mr Lane in London when he stepped into The Producers at the last minute. Incredibly talented man
Most underrated and most under the radar is the master Nathan Lane, bravo and bravo again. I hope I never have to imagine a world without Nathan Lane, thanks for all of your hard work and for being such a joy. 😀✌❤
This was really delightful. I’m happy that I got to see four of those productions. And I’d also like to see an unedited extended cut. Everybody has stories and I want to hear them all! Good show
.. I have never seen Nathan on Broadway.. but I will forever love this man for his role in “The Birdcage”.. his chemistry with Robin, humanity, humor and sweet nature.. that one introduction to him has made me watch every interview and excerpt and listen to every interview.. I feel better about the World because he is in it. Love him
An absolute legend of the arts. I first came across him in the Addams soundtrack and was immediately charmed by the way his brain works. And the sheer talent.
I went to see his production of Angels in America at the National- a Herculean feat for all involved as the full play literally goes on ALL DAY LONG with a brief stop for lunch. An amazing day with incredible actors and fantastic stage craft. He was both terrifying and hilarious as the dreadful Roy Cohen. Perfect casting- it was like watching a truly historic moment.
@@Mrchair-bk5ns No, Angels in full is a two-play cycle (consisting of two *extremely* full-length plays). It goes ALL day. It's like being at the frikkin ancient Athenian amphitheatre or something. At Berkeley Rep if you went to one of the two-show days you got a souvenir pin, I've still got mine
i would watch an extended version of nathan discussing his career that includes all of the "long stories", also i wish they included "its only a play"! that cast was fantastic and i would have loved to see him talk more about it
I remember being a senior in high school and going to a Drama club trip to Broadway. And seeing Nathan in a funny thing happened on the way to the forum 🎭 what an Amazing experience I could never forget!
What a lovely, simple format to see a storyteller like Mr. Lane shine. If this isn't part of an oral history series Playbill does with other Broadway greats, they should seriously consider it.
Nathan should do a one-man show on Broadway where he just sits and talk about being in theater. I would pay so much money to hear him speak for hours and hours.
I remember seeing Merlin as a kid! Didn’t hear about all the troubles that show had until years later, but my preteen self throughly enjoyed that show.
The first and only show I attended on Broadway was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Nathan Lane. I was in Elementary and I still have a good memory oh his performance.
11:59 I really like Nathan Lane and my favourite character that he has played is Max in the 2001 Broadway production 2004 London production and 2005 film version of The Producers
Why did he skip over It's Only a Play? It was after The Nance and it's the only Playbill they didn't show from above, which I thought was odd, but it's because the Playbill for It's Only a Play is on the other side. You can kind of see it a bit at 21:56
I’m confused as to why they omitted “It’s Only A Play” which I saw on Broadway in the Schoenfeld Theatre in 2013. It had Nathan Lane teamed up with Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, F Murray Abraham, and Rupert Grint, and was one of the funniest shows I’ve seen. 🤷♂️
I wish Nathan had done more movies. Broadway was never convenient for me so I missed most of his greatest work. Mousehunt and The Birdcage are some of my most favorite movies of all time.
One of my favorite performers of all. I’ve played Gomez Addams, Max Bialystock, and Oscar Madison and hope he would‘ve appreciated my tribute to him in those roles.
21:32 I have just two negative things to say on this video. Why was the Playbill for "The Nance" not shown on camera? I've seen that Playbill, and there's exactly nothing about it that would be objectionable. It was shown on PBS, so I mean, really. Also, it's the shortest segment of the entire video. I realize there wasn't a lot of time, but The Nance is one of the most powerful plays I've seen, despite the fact I've never seen a live play, only filmed versions. I honestly think it didn't deserve to be given any less screen time than the others. Otherwise, I thought this was a wonderful video and would honestly sit through two hours of Nathan Lane talking about his career, and I would enjoy every minute of it. If this had been a preview for a longer version, that would have been even more fantastic.
I saw The Nance at the Lyceum in July 2013 with my dad, it was a good show and Nathan gave an amazing performance. We saw the matinee that day and Nathan was apparently injured at the end of the show because his understudy performed the night show, so we felt pretty lucky that we chose the time we did lol
It's criminal that this video is not two hours long.
I would happily watch 2, 3, or even hours more
Agree. I want the entire interview streamed. And without music in the background, please!
ur face is criminal, jason
AGREED...!!! Were talking about Nathan Lane here. My god let the man talk about his life.
@Playbill please post the long version of this!
It would be a joy to see an extended version of this interview with all the "long stories" because I bet they are fabulous from Nathan! Looking forward to see who you interview next...
:) Agreed on both counts.
I absolutely agree that an extended version would be wonderful, and another commenter here suggested a one-person show where he talks about his career. That would be wonderful, too. Although, I would imagine that after a while of talking about one's career every night, a person would get pretty tired of it.

His heart is big. Very big.
Loved watching this. I feel like Nathan Lane is one of those people who remembers every actor he's ever worked with. You can tell how much he respects and loves theater.
You should check out his episode on Marc Maron’s podcast called WTF. One on one conversation. He’s a fantastic guest and a wonderful story teller
The King of Broadway himself! Great series!
Nathan should do a one-man biographical show where he recounts his life and career. I could listen to his stories all day. Thanks to Playbill, though for this snippet. I loved it!
Nathan Lane is a national treasure. So happy to hear him discuss his career

Such a truth!
Who'se idea was it to stick a jazz backing track that just gets in the way of Nathan Lane's wonderful anecdotes? Nuts.
"It would take an entire documentary-" someone MAKE IT NOW
I love Nathan Lane. I'm so sorry that I have never been able to see him perform on stage. I HAVE seen a lot of his interviews and appearances on T.V. and in movies. I'm very glad for the filmed version of The Producers and I think he is great in The Birdcage.
I love watching artists go through their work and talk about it
I could listen to Nathan all day talk about each and every play in depth
I was working at the national theatre when Angels in America was on. Served Nathan a few times, lovely man and incredible as Roy.
He's been in so much. Loved these stories. Absolue legend!
My first trip to NY, and the first musical I saw on Broadway was The Addams Family. I loved it so much. I was in tears from laughing, and played that CD constantly for a long time after. Such a brilliant career, a wonderful retrospective.
I love Nathan one of my all time favorite actors.
Extraordinary.
Aussie here who was extremely fortunate to see Mr Lane in London when he stepped into The Producers at the last minute. Incredibly talented man
The thing I love most about this is Nathan’s respect for playwrights. It’s a joy to see.
Most underrated and most under the radar is the master Nathan Lane, bravo and bravo again. I hope I never have to imagine a world without Nathan Lane, thanks for all of your hard work and for being such a joy. 😀✌❤
Release the extended cut! I want to hear so much more about... everything! What a career. He's amazing in Pictures From Home.
I sincerely hope this series is going to run and run. Could watch this all day!
This was really delightful. I’m happy that I got to see four of those productions. And I’d also like to see an unedited extended cut. Everybody has stories and I want to hear them all! Good show
Nathan Lane is Broadway!
Thank you, Nathan Lane is truly a national treasure.

All day long? What do you mean? Wasn't it like 2 hours maybe 3 hours max?

Adore anything Nathan Lane has done! I would have loved to see this as a longer video!
Long may he reign! ❤❤❤
I saw him in The Lisbon Traviata jn San Francisco and thought it was so great I went again a few days later.
Absolutely love this video series concept of the binder of programs and some anecdotes.
The frogs is my favourite musical of all time. it's sad more people don't love it.
Nathan Lane has had an amazing past few years. Only Murders, Beau is Afraid, A in A, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, Gilded Age. What range!
i would watch an extended version of nathan discussing his career that includes all of the "long stories", also i wish they included "its only a play"! that cast was fantastic and i would have loved to see him talk more about it
Nathan is Wonderful.
He can play any role.
Excellent Stage Performer.
Saw him in Guys and Dolls, Funny Thing and The Producers. He is one of my favorites.
This is brilliant! I would love to watch all my favorite actors sit down honestly and tell us about them
Nathan isn't even his real name??!! at this point I don't even see him as a "Joseph". He is Nathan all the way! Love him! such a treasure!
Please do more of these Playbill!!
Thank you, difficult to edit😮 i love this monologue. No notes, just what the cover picture speaks to him. Great memory! Silky smooth
so sweet that they did this, and captured his story before it's too late ❤️ I love this!!
Marvellous. More of these for other great titans of the theatre, please!!
Would happily watch the 3 hour version of this. He is the most marvellous storyteller.
I could listen to Nathan lane all day.
I saw Nathan, and George C. Scott in "On Borrowed Time." Circle in the Square.
Just missed an opportunity to see him in his new show on Broadway. But hopefully I will get to see him someday. Such a legend
I remember being a senior in high school and going to a Drama club trip to Broadway. And seeing Nathan in a funny thing happened on the way to the forum 🎭 what an Amazing experience I could never forget!
This needs to be a miniseries. And he's wonderful in Pictures From Home.
Now you can do the long version, I loved it
This is an amazing series and hopefully it continues for a while
What a lovely, simple format to see a storyteller like Mr. Lane shine. If this isn't part of an oral history series Playbill does with other Broadway greats, they should seriously consider it.
Please do more of these! Also, we miss the vlogs!!!
Binging these videos. I need more of these playbill!
I LOVE YOUUUUU NATHAN LANE.... how do you remember all that??? You must be brilliant!
I've only seen Nathan on stage once, in The Producers in London, but it was great. Always enjoy seeing him in the movies.
Do adore you! Thank you so much for this!
That forum story is absolutely beautiful
I truly enjoyed this production.
This was great!! I loved it, can’t wait to see who’s next 👀
This is a great series! Keep doing them!
Wonderful! Nathan you are amazing!
Fabulous!! What a wonderful life of extraordinary memories.
I was really hoping he would talk about It’s Only A Play! I love that script and would love to hear him talk about that experience!!
He needs to write a biography
Loved Nathan for nearly 30 years and this is delightful. I think just his stories of George C. Scott alone could fill up 2 or 3 hours of video.
De-BOO will now be my go-to Halloween jump scare for my fellow theater kids 😂
The first and only show I attended on Broadway was A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum with Nathan Lane. I was in Elementary and I still have a good memory oh his performance.
Hilarious. Great stories. But, why no production shots?
I need the full stories to these “long stories”
Phenomenal man with an equally phenomenal career. 🤩👍👏
11:59 I really like Nathan Lane and my favourite character that he has played is Max in the 2001 Broadway production 2004 London production and 2005 film version of The Producers
Any chance we get an extended version of this? Please? 😍
Loved him in The Producers! Just great.
I’m probably one of the very few who has Addams family as a favorite musical after I saw him in it on New Years Eve while it was previewing in Chicago
Why did he skip over It's Only a Play? It was after The Nance and it's the only Playbill they didn't show from above, which I thought was odd, but it's because the Playbill for It's Only a Play is on the other side. You can kind of see it a bit at 21:56
Not sure why they skipped it
Class act
Nathan Lane is a treasure. He can play anything!
What at talent….would love to see him live!
There a few actors that thrill me....he is amazing!
NATHAN I LOVE YOU
I’m confused as to why they omitted “It’s Only A Play” which I saw on Broadway in the Schoenfeld Theatre in 2013. It had Nathan Lane teamed up with Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, F Murray Abraham, and Rupert Grint, and was one of the funniest shows I’ve seen. 🤷♂️
I saw him in the Producers . A great Broadway play. Epic.
I wish Nathan had done more movies. Broadway was never convenient for me so I missed most of his greatest work. Mousehunt and The Birdcage are some of my most favorite movies of all time.
getting to see The Front Page on Broadway was something I'll never forget
Full video!!!!!
perfect video. utterly perfect video.
I’ve always been more curious to know about The Wind in the Willows production.
One of my favorite performers of all. I’ve played Gomez Addams, Max Bialystock, and Oscar Madison and hope he would‘ve appreciated my tribute to him in those roles.
I love Nathan Lane he is wonderful

Two manhattans and I'd tell you anything.... wouldn't that be the best cocktail hour EVER!?!
Yes! Give him a camera so we can ALL watch!

Better without the music but brilliant funny and i have always loved you Norman - I mean Nathan Lane
I love how mich history he knows about this, absoluetly brilliant video.
