      @@alphamale4182 What you are saying is completely false for those who have a real understanding of hockey. Reinbacher was the best D available and also right-handed. As you don't seem to have what it takes to evaluate a player of this quality because you are parroting, it's better to abstain.
      I quickly assessed his all-around talent and ranked him 6th in the draft before Michkov's character issues became apparent. Nashville was willing to lose Askarov for Reinbacher and Arizona had him in their sights. Reinbacher was unanimous among the Canadiens scout team and it is a very high quality team.
      The Habs front office does not want any player who will break the team's chemistry and Michkov has a personality completely contrary to what the Canadiens are looking for. With all due respect, this is all moot. The Habs have assembled a group of players and prospects with the skill to win games and the Cup! To win the Cup, we all know you need not only talent, but intelligent and driven players who care more about the team than their own stats. That's what Hughes has almost finished building.
    So who cares? I hope Michkov has a wonderful career in the NHL, and don't see why he won't.

    When Michkov was available to be drafted the information at the time was that he would remain under KHL control for 3 years.which would take his development out of Montreal's hands. Reinbacher on the other hand was one of the two best defensive prospects in that year's draft. The difference this year with Demidov us that he has made it known that he intends to come over in a year, allowing the Canadiens to have control over his development. The history of the NHL is littered with prospects that flamed out due to not being developed properly.

      There's been a back and forth since the 2019 draft when the Flyers passed on Caufield and the Habs picked him. Some Habs fans have taunted Flyers fans about it, so when the Habs passed on Michkov and the Flyers picked him some of their fans made sure to return the favor. With the Demidov pick some coping Habs fans try to pretend they never cared for Michkov in the first place and Demidov is better anyway. It's really just a small minority of each fanbase who cares about it. Both teams seem to be happy with their pick and personally I hope they both have a very successful career in the NHL.

    The whole not taking him" because he's got 3 years left on his deal in the KHL" is a load of crap. There have been precedents set before where NHL teams were able to get Russian prospects out from under their contracts and moved over to the NHL with term still left on it. Kuznetsov is a big example. I'm pretty sure he still had 2 years left on his deal when he first came over. Management didn't like the guy, and the fans did, plain and simple. Boneheaded move though, cause you could've have Michkov AND Deimedov (sorry I butchered that)

      The sports world is not binary. “Management didn’t like the guy and the fans did.” “ The Fans” is a generalization. Many of us fans wanted Reinbacher, because there are many experienced fans in Montreal who understand what it takes to build a truly competitive team. “Management didn’t like him” is a gratuitous statement, actually you don’t know. There is a war going on and Russia is involved in it, they also have compulsory military service for 3 years when kids turn 18 in Russia. Yes they make exceptions for athletes and other professions but there was no way of knowing if the government would demand he serve his military time before going to the NHL at which point who knows how good or how long before he would be in the league. As Irecall the Habs drafted 5th not 1st and they were one of 6 teams to not take the chance. It might also explain why Demidov fell to 5th despite being touted as the 2nd best player available. Not picking Michkov because of Cole Caufield, that's the first time I'm hearing of this. Here's a version I'd be more inclined to believe. Hughes answered a question in French during a media availability saying that they didn't pick Michkov because they had already spotted Demidov in 2023. At the time it was believed that Michkov would not be available for 3 years. So, Demidov should have been able to play in North America faster than Michkov.

I also cant help think the unfortunate death of his father 2 or 3 months before the draft played a significant part on why the Habs did not pick him. I cant imagine how the young fellow has dealt with this tragic event in his life. Also, fellow Habs fans must remember Nick Bobrov's father has worked for SKA for over 30 yrs and we know SKA for some reason kept loaning Michkov out to Sochi 2 yrs in a row instead of allowing him to showcase his skill for his own club?? Especially if its true that Demidov will be playing for SKA this upcoming season. There had to be a reason why SKA management and coaching staff did not want Michkov on the team????? Michkov's father was murdered when he was trying to get his son's release from the KHL. In order to further develop his hockey career, he, along with his parents and brother, moved to Yaroslavl to join the youth program of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in 2015. It was a team building decision. Top 4 RHD under control for 7-8 years over a highly skilled forward is a big deal. Yes, highly skilled forward are hard to find, but so are top 4 RHD who are under control and who you can develop. Biggest thing for Habs fans is that they’ve been yearning for a franchise-level player for decades. Doesn’t mean that Habs didn’t make a mistake, but it helps understand things better. At the end of the day, Habs fans have to move on and must have faith in Habs development team to develop Reinbacher properly.

    Michkov was a Flyers fan and wasn't signing anywhere else.
    And Demidov is nowhere NEAR the Elite ceiling Michkov has. Hasn't even played in the KHL yet.
    And didn't absolutely DOMINATE Bedard and everyone else he came across in the World U18s.
    If you think Demidov is going to be anywhere near as productive as Michkov your going to be disappointed.
    I've watched them both. Demidov has nowhere near the IQ or sniping ability Michkov has.

    Michkov is almost a foot taller than Caufeild. You can’t compare them at all one will grow into a man’s body and the other will always just be a guy with child’s body. Caufeild will always be hurt and will have a very short career because he’s already shown he doesn’t have the skating ability or toughness to use his shot in 5 on 5. He’s a OT and pp specialist and that’s it.

    • @garland6850
      @garland6850 Месяц назад +9

      This is satire right? Michkov is 2 inches taller than caufield lol. Caufield also played 82 games last season and scored 28 goals and 65 points as a 22/23 year old. Acting like that’s bad.
