Another Flyers draft pick to watch is last years 1st round pick, 22nd overall, right shot D Oliver Bonk. This guy will help fix that Flyers powerplay. As will Michkov up front. I actually did a short video yesterday on Bonk.

  • @bdawk511

I think a lot of his defensive deficiencies that he showed in Sochi are going to be cleared up playing in the Flyers system under Torts. There are definitely times where things will be contentious between coach and player but that friction will be necessary for him to become a truly elite player and not just a point producer.
By all accounts Michkov is an extremely hard worker and wants to be great so having a coach who won't let him off the hook is exactly what he needs. Additionally the Flyers have a lot of young guys who have taken big steps forward under Torts and have fully embraced him since he came over. Additionally when you watch him play for Sochi, you have to realize they're one of the worst teams in the KHL so he was putting up historic numbers on a bad team and doing everything he could to generate offense.
The Flyers designed their offense to compliment Michkov's game so it'll be really interesting to see how well it translate right away. I'm really excited to see what he can bring to the offense and notably the power play which was beyond abysmal last season.

Everyone who has followed Matvey's story knows that he is a hard worker, his father raised him so that until you do something, do not wait for peace, all his life he proved and achieved the goals that his father set for him. If John finds the key to it, then it will be possible to make an exemplary player out of him, the main thing is not to bury his talent, he is a creator on ice, a technician.

As a Leaf fan, I can say William Nylander is pretty famous for blowing the zone early. And yet his proclivity for this has been tempered over time by his coaches, so that he is wiser in making the decision to do it. So perhaps the same will happen with Michkov.
    Great analysis!!

You could argue that trying to go for the breakout pass is also a defensive play because it keeps the defence on their toes instead letting them support the attack. Anyway I’m sure Mitchkov will be alright. He’s got the tools to be very successful.

I think he'll do great with the coaching staff. He's used to being in systems where the coaches are screaming at everyone. And, Torts likes it when guys play their game. He's already said that he wants creative players to be creative. Why do you think TK has seen his scoring skyrocket? Because he's not being held back AND, he's being held accountable. They can do both.

Im still sick Habs passed up on this guy, imagine having Demidov and Michkov, with Suzuki, and Caufield and Hutson, what a powerplay!!! But we got a defenseman who has scored on average a goal a year for the last 3 or 4 years. And before anyone says defense is extremely important, i couldnt agree more, but the Habs already had a stacked D roster. They fucked up, and there arent many habs fans willing to admit it, yet, wait til the end of next season, when reinbacher is still in laval, with 2 goals and maybe 12-15 assists, and michkov wins the calder.
