We didn't grow wearing them, and neither did most East africans or South africans. We are simple people when it comes to hair and makeup. Rarely do Kenyans bleach their skin the way West africans do. Wigs, nah!

On dressing I agree. Even the current and former president plus the opposition leader are just comfortable with untucked shirts and sneakers even on official functions and we like it. Besides, they're comfortable. There's a time suits were the thing even in villages but we're slowly moving away from that. I guess it's a result of western influence. For groceries, you can always buy in bulk in kilograms from the market, not sure where you make your purchases. The small kibandas are at the bottom of the supply chain and they cater for emergencies & low income earners.

The various ethnic communities traditionally have their own types of cuisine. So do visit other communities to experience the variety of Kenyan dishes from the many cultures.

swahili is not only a national language, but also it is an examinable subject in school curriculum right from primary to University level just like English.Swahili has grammar (lugha) part, literature (fasihi) part, and poetry (ushairi) part, just like English subject. There are many people who have done masters and Phds in Swahili language. It is a mandatory subject for every learner in both primary and high school; Swahili was included into school curriculum in 1980s some of our old folks do not speak it well; but younger generations speak, understand and write it well because they have learned it in school.
