Your findings about Kenya are 100% correct. Yes we don’t do soup and peppe but instead Kenyans cook fresh food everyday in their homes. It’s poverty at times and perhaps the hot weather/ lack of fridge that Kenyans used to prepare food everyday.
Your experience is just a reflection of your culture/ family life and not the entire population of Kenya. Of course Kenyans also cook soup and we have many Nigerians here in the U.K. and the only difference is the ingredients and the way they prepare their soup/ stew.

Sukuma wiki and spinach isn't ready available in Lagos but if you need ugu, green (Terere) and ewedu (jute/mrenda) then you have no problem in Lagos and relatively expensive except you know where to buy them fresh from the farm. I do hope you are enjoying Nigeria though, it isn't as bad as it's often portrayed. ❤️❤️

Pepe is served on the side because most Kenyans don't like hot chilli. But we have other types of spices like cardamom, cinammon, nutmeg, masala, paprika, black pepper etc. we also incorporate herbs like bayleaves, corriander, bell peppers, rosemary, thyme etc. Take a tour in Ngara we have Indians who sell herbs and spices in bulk and you'll be amazed.

I laughed when you said liquid milk, because when someone says milk I naturally assume it’s liquid and not powder. Unless they specify powder. I understand why you say that because When my sister travelled to Nigeria, she said they struggled to find “liquid milk” 😂
She loved it there more than Kenya and though.
Btw, here in the U.K. we do struggle with the chilli in Nigerian food, it takes time to get used to.
However, we have similar soups, stew, just cooked in a different way using different spices / ingredients.
I think Nairobi is abit different because of the small number of Muslims and large number of Kenyans who cook bland tribal food.
In my family we make stew, soup and not always plain rice. The food you eat in Nairobi represents kikuyu and perhaps luo cuisine.
Swahili and Nubian food use spices and not bland at all. We prepare chilli sauce separately because we also consider small kids. Nigerians in the U.K. feed their small kids very spicey food until they get used to it. Initially the kids tend to dislike the chilli . That’s why in Kenya it’s a bit different.

They realised over time how the water of the Nairobi river was and hence referred to it as "enkare nairobi" translated "cold water". The colanial government dropped the first word and retained the second and thus the name "Nairobi".

Fun Video. "Mama there's no soup in Kenya" 😂. What you guys call soup we call stew. To us soup is broth or made from meat and/or bones. The stew with meat, peas and potato is from Mt. Kenya region and most other Kenyans don't like it that much. Most stews countrywide will be made with beef or chicken or in some cases lamb, fish or goat meat, one may add veg of choice or cook separately. And yes we don't mix meats in one pot 😅😉.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I was surprised! What’s the name of the stew you make with cabbages?? And you don’t mix meats too?? Is there an unspoken rule? 😅

@@jamidesutv whatever stew you eat alongside your starch of choice, in Swahili, we call it kitoweo. Local languages have different names for it... Cabbage is simply cabbage lol.... Yes meat mixing unspoken rule, off course in a typical buffet you will find all meats cooked separately, you serve all of them in your plate and let them "mix" in the stomach.🤣

One thing that amazes me about west Africans is how they mix all types of meat together......how do you mix fish, beef and matumbo(tripe) in the same stew (soup)?

Each meat brings it’s own unique flavor so you get to layer the flavors which makes it very tasty. You guys should try it 🙂
