I have previously owned 2 Indian motorcycles. And now I’m on my second Harley Davidson. I can honestly say that Harley Davison is way more than a motorcycle, you r part of a big family of a lot of things. They sure take care of business.

So my question, as an almost squid...(I mean, newbie, an almost newbie) what is the big benefit here? Granted, I am not in this RUclipsrs demographic that I can tell. I'm like two notches of hunting and killing my food and an outhouse situation at all times. I'm looking at ways to stay frugal and improve so I won't retire this way. I have had to learn to repair and troubleshoot complex problems involving mechanical and/electrical on vehicles kind of impoverished. "Have a neighborhood guy fab a piece to slide a grade 11 bolt through to be able to work kind" of situation. What I am trying to ask is, is this the brand to go to if you travel a lot on bikes or find yourself in upper middle class income-to-debt ratio level? (I know a guy that went to five states in a jeep to go see some sights with like $800 within the past 10 years. His income-to-debt ratio was really good...in debt to nothing)

My wife and I were on our way back from WI to FL on an extended trip and had a sidewall blowout on I75 about 30 miles north of Tifton, GA H=D. Not a good experience, but called Road America from our HOG membership and soon picked up and taken to Tifton H-D on Labor Day. We were concerned that we would be there for at least a day since they were very busy with their core customers. We did get head of the line when they asked if we were on a trip and they explained it to those waiting in line and all agreed to get us back on the road. All went well and we were thankful they were even open on Labor Day. Perhaps like you explained, "trip interruption" worked for us as well. Thank you.

I had a 1986 fxrd bought in 1987 we put over 70,000 miles on the bike many of the miles pulling a trailer. On a trip from Massachusetts to Milwaukee we had some construction debris get caught in the belt and damage the rear pulley. Of course pouring rain! Bike kept going we made it to Cleveland hd. They took us in immediately pulling a local bike off the lift to work on ours. This was a major job to replace belt and pulley on that bike I believe they had to pull the swing arm. Kept the dealership open an hour late to finish the job and offered to have us stay over at the mechanics house! This was in 1993 so the trip interrupted service has been around a long time. On my 7th harley now I'm 74 yrs old wouldn't even consider another brand. My wife and I have been together over 40 yrs and about 300,000miles on Harleys. Never broke down never been stranded. Had 2 bikes over 70,000miles most 30 to 50 thousands.

Five years I was on a solo trip from Florida to California on my 2012 electra glide and the stater went out.
No charging l was in trouble. Had an appointment at a harley dealer in Fresno cal. Ended up at the wrong dealership by mistake. They asked me what was wrong . I told them and they called the other dealership and since I was at Mathew harley davidson they would take care of me.they got me right in
They changed the stator and he even changed the voltage regulator said they wanted to make sure I made back to Florida . Did all that and washed
my bike that day . That's why you buy a harley. Thank you Mathew Harley Davidson I will always remember your Kindness and help to a Traveler.

Agreed the big one-ten: this is something that Harley-Davidson NEEDS to shout out to the world. Unknown whether other bike manufacturers have equivalent services, but point of the matter being, HARLEY-DAVIDSON'S PEOPLE KEEP YOU ON THE ROAD. Thank you very much for having detailed the situation, and very much hoping that your home dealership - and those across the planet, really - spread this story far and wide.

Been there. 2020 street glide broke 500 miles from the house. It was extremely stressful wondering how we are getting home. Especially in todays time. No rentals would allow their car out of state.
Thankfully Texarkana Harley worked long hours for two day with a tech working exclusively on our bike. They got it fixed and we were on our way. Vacation was cancelled but so thankful they got us back on two wheels.

After a great visit with friend in Santa Fe I headed South towards Tucson …But my clutch fried 50 miles North of Albuquerque NM. I hobbled into Thunderbird Dealer at 4:30 pm Friday,

I had a 2015 SGS on ride through Arizona on the way to New Mexico from California when my gear shift spline went out and I couldn't get a tow out the the location that I broke down. I contacted Grand Canyon HD and told me to get it in before they closed and they would take care of me. Left with few options I managed to ride it about 30 miles through the hills to while shifting gears by kicking my heel on the lever that moves the gear shift linkage instead of the gear shift lever (Scary). I made in about 5 minutes till they closed and they took my bike right in and fixed it in about 40 minutes, under warranty. A big thumbs up for them working over to take care of a traveling HD rider.

Knock on wood I never have to use trip interruption but it's nice to know it's there.

Back in the carbie days, before a road trip I had my HD Sportser serviced by a HD dealer, which included a Factory recall on the rubber diaphram inside the carbi. The bike started to play up (engine stalling every 15 minutes or so) at about 250km out. I struggled into a country town at about lunch time where there was a Honda dealership but no Harley dealership. Knowing I was on a road trip the Honda dealership service manager said the mechanics are at lunch but he would have them look at the bike 1st thing when they get back. Within 1 and half hours I was back on the road. The HD dealership had incorrectly installed the replacement diaphram (installed it back-to-front). I was charged a small fee which I was able to successfully claim back from the HD dealer.

I bet your clutch problem was the transfer issue that is common on the hydraulic clutch bikes. Basically your transmission fluid migrates to the primary. You have shifting issues as your transmission oil transfers to the chaincase. Your transmission goes low on oil and is destroyed in extreme cases. Probably the reason for the first problem. This should not happen. I own a different brand bike from one of the most reliable manufacturers. It's an 1800cc twin and its 21 years old now. I have never serviced the clutch, ever and have never had a single issue. I might have gone along a different path 30 years ago when I was an E-3 going into San Diego HD to buy a Sportster and they would not give me the time of day. I was a ghost as salesmen brushed past as I tried to get help. I had drunk the HD cool aid and was willing but that brush off changed my riding path. I bought a bike from one of the big 4 and put 39,000 miles on it in 2.5 years until the clutch cable popped on the way to work and I traded it in. Flawless reliability. After discharge I scratched that itch again and bought some original Triumphs and BSA's made a hobby of keeping them running I found that certain 4 manufacturers always delivered bikes that simply ran every time and they never left me stranded, ever. I stopped beating my head on the wall of British motorcycle ownership and HD treatment of a paying customer killed any desire for me. I want a bike to ride, not a lifestyle or a costume to wear. It takes a certain tenacity to buy bikes that are less than dependable I would know. It's simply not something I want to deal with any longer.

Wow...Glad your bike is back...In Sept I saw Primary Fluid Leaking, wasn't too bad, took bike in 10/27, finally got word 11/02 that trans had to be rebuilt, and the main shaft was also bad - part on back order...so yesterday I drove 185 miles round trip, to get part from a dealer, and bring it out to my guy...hopefully bike will be back home soon...it sucks that parts are OOS all over, but I was able to find one 60 miles from my house...its getting cold here. and riding season is almost over, but want to get her home before the snow fly's...

Dang! Glad you found your part. I agree, the shortage on parts is concerning, especially during the off-season when people are scheduling upgrades. Stay safe 🤙🏻

Earlier this yr. on my way back to Ohio I got a flat tire in Massachusetts. I got the phone number for HOG (I was pretty sure I wasn't a member anymore) and gave them all of the details. Sure enough I wasn't a member but they helped me arrange a tow to the local Harley dealer. I called the dealer and gave them a heads up about my situation. They said we will get it replaced but it will take awhile. Well about 3-4 hrs. latter they were done. I was happy and on the road again. At my local Harley dealer several yrs. ago a fellow brought his bike in. He was passing through on a road trip. They put him up towards the front of the line and he was happy.

what a great video, Thanks bro. We are from Africa and have done 13000 miles and 37 states and on the few brake downs that we have had HD has always had us running in an hour or two. Never waited for service. Not sure if it works here in South Africa but keen to find out

Glad your “Trip Interruption” was honored. Some dealerships near me in Northern Illinois will tell you “tough luck”. Also if it’s a major rally, you may be out of luck. Just keep that in mind. Everyone is on a trip.
I have had luck with it in other areas. 4 Rivers H-D in Paducah, KY was solid on that for me though. Replaced brackets on an 05 Road King Custom in 30 minutes to get me rolling again.

I have a different experience with a Harley Davidson dealer. It is a very good one. I was looking around for someone to tune my bike. I needed a custom tune not a canned tune. I could not find a shop to do it. The problem is I ride a Honda. Loess Hills Harley Davidson did a custom tune on it. I was shocked that a Harley Davidson dealer would work on a Honda. The tune gave me 10% more horsepower. I pick the bike up from the dealership tomorrow.

I was on a group trip with my Buell and my stator went out. Pulled into a Harley/Buell dealer and they got me in right away. I decided to rent a bike because we would be coming back the same route. It took them 5 days to diagnose, order the part, and install. It is too bad other vehicle dealers do not have this travelers first practice. Something else to consider, how often do people visit their dealer for no reason what so ever and then look at a Harley dealer. Maybe other manufacturers can learn something from Harley.

That is something they should use when you are buying a bike. Wonder if its all dealers or just a chosen few. One time on a trip my Ducati picked up a nail. Drove it to the nearest dealer (a Suzuki Dealer), and asked if they could fit me in, I was on a trip. They took it back right away. I love great customer service.

I was at Biketoberfest in Daytona when the engine light came on. There were of course thousands of bikes there. The dealership made early hours for those of us with unexpected issues. It turned out to be nothing but, I was in at 730MA out at 800AM.

The get you rt in on a road trip is great. We were rolling back to northwest indiana from Colorado. We were pulling into our hotel and I noticed something white on my buddy’s tire. Needless to say it was the threads coming through. We went to dealer next day a Saturday and they got us rt in and there was a Canadian guy on a 25000 trip needing oil change and tires and they got him in as well. The dealer was in central Iowa and looked like silos. They were great. I think Big barn HD

That’s the big reason I choose a H-D as far as what touring bike to get. The Dealer network is extensive. As far as warranties go. I got the extended warranty, the maintenance warranty, and the tire replacement warranty. ALL well worth the dough. I’ve used them and believe me they have paid for themselves.

I had a flat one year on my way to Daytona.
I managed to plug the tire and drove to a near Harley, told them what was happening and with in the hour I was back on the road
Harley saved my butt. Not cheap, but I did not care. I feel as if I have a
hate and love relationship with Harley. On my opinion because they have so many dealerships where ever you go it is piece of mind and that is part of what makes them #1. Indian and the others are way behind

I didn’t know…I have owned my first bike, a Harley, for 5 months lol. But I swear I had a feeling because the guys at gator Harley in Florida totally and happily educated me, tolerated my many questions and fixed some things on my used bike like it was important to them. It’s been a great experience, tons of people saying hello and compliments on the bike. I didn’t know about the willingness to prioritize a rider on a big trip, but I might have guessed that this is true just from the way I have been made to feel like my first experience be a really positive one.
