Thank you so much for this. I have stained two gourds with red and blue ink and was looking for ways to proceed. Your help is much appreciated my friend.
I tried growing birdhouse gourds this past summer, but I live in ND so we have a short growing season amd I only wound up with one smallish gourd. Letting it dry and hopefully get seeds out of it to try again next summer. Thanks for sharing!
Oh really? So you're saying that once it's dried I should remove the seeds and then boil it and then dry it out again? That'll make it harder and more resilient? I actually have another gourd I grew over the summer that I can try that on.
Thanks for the watch and sub! Let me know how yours turn out when you get it done! I made a newer video on it this year too you can check out. I used paraffin wax. I been liking it more than the bees wax. :-)
I've been wanting one of these ever since I saw Gaara using it in Naruto. I'm working at the grocery dpt of a supermarket and thought I could make one of a butternut pumpkin lol. This could be really fun as a project next Summer :)
wow this is awesome! thanks for the clear instructions. also I love your dog!! i'm thinking about planting gourds this summer to see if I can make a bottle like this.
The Über Driver at least you didn’t plant the wrong one and ended up with around 86 circle ones that are like small jars, they do taste sweeter though but still it’s like 1/2 cup of water each after dried
This was a really interesting video, one of the best I've seen on this subject... I also like the fact that I've seen you using this in later videos!! XD
really polished well done video for such an early channel you have more then earned my subscription, i think you should try and dabble with clay containers
Thank you so much!! Yeah I actually have a bucket of red clay I gathered when I was living in Houston. I've tried making pinch pots buy they always end up cracking as I let it sit to air dry. So I'm going to experiment with that and try to fire em sometime.
I had the same issue and I had the best luck by letting the last layer dry a bit before adding a new one or by simply filling the cracks with wet clay. For firing a normal bonfire will be fine, put your piece into a bed of coals and build the fire over top of it. I recommend gently blowing on the coal bed with a steel tube, when the clay glows a dull red color its fired enough to not dissolve in water
@@stardustluvsu3162 thanks for the tips and feedback! I'll keep it in mind next time I try to work with the clay. Ive been dying to make a pinch pot and get it fired in a campfire. I'll get it done this spring/summer! :-)

In Asia we use these mostly for alcohol. But they are great water bottles!

Just wanted to say for anyone wondering if you melt down the beeswax you can use a sponge to sponge the beeswax onto the outside 👍
Your dog is so awesome.
This is everything to me
I’m a bit late, but if you boil the gourd, it’ll keep it nice and hard.

How about a Drunken fist demonstration?
Hahaha yesss when I was a kid I played around with drunken fist demonstrations haha
use flax seed oil, works better and you don't need any heat for it, its basically wood coating. Maybe use some wax in the mix.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll give it a try when I get more gourds! :-)
No problem! Love your videos keep it up!

That's awesome man! I'm guessing that holds about two-and-a-half to three and a half quarts of water
This is awesome! ... Does anyone have an idea how long these gourds can be used for?
I've had mine for almost about 1 year now. I use it to hold cold water. It did hold alcohol too. Still works perfectly.
LIke your video
What's the fluffy stuff you used to start the fire?
How cool!
I want to try!
What kind of dog is that? Cross kelpie at all?
I am trying my luck at raising these this yr. if I am successful I will be doing this tyvm.
Awesome!!! Good luck growing them!!
I knew about them from chinese novels.
I tried growing gourds this summer and my shitty green thumb only got one gourd that looks like it might hold a quart of water when it dries out
The Über Driver at least you didn’t plant the wrong one and ended up with around 86 circle ones that are like small jars, they do taste sweeter though but still it’s like 1/2 cup of water each after dried
So where is a good place to look for a gourd like that? Try'd amazon, but not much luck personally.
You can grow one yourself or but they're on Etsy or eBay. I tried Amazon also with no luck. The one in this video was one I grew tho.
@@cluelessbushcraft Thanks. I totally spaced Etsy. That's probibly where I will look.

Where can I get one??
This is awesome! Also been wanting to do this. Where can one get gourds though? Do you plant them?
I actually grew this one in the video but you can purchase pre dried bottle gourds on eBay. :-)
Boil your gourd for about 30 minutes before you begin crafting it and you will have much less of a chance of cracking it.
