    1. The legs didn't adhere because the skin of the gourd is not just waterproof, it's glueproof too. I didn't particularly like those legs so yay failure!
    2. If you can find a tea strainer that's the same diameter as the opening on the pot, you'll have an easier time with using loose tea. I bet you can.
    3. Every single project I've ever worked on is a repurposed version of a previous project I made. I think it must be part of my creative process. Or I just can't leave things alone.

I love how it ended up! As you were making it I was just thinking how awkward it might be to drink out of (particularly for hot stuff) given the inward angle of the lip, so I think you made the right choice to pivot. I can imagine if you'd planned from the beginning to make the teapot, you could have sized the rings to kinda slot in together so your lid is a little more secure.

@Skill Tree the main concern related to the use of fully cured epoxy resin as a food container is identical to the concern surrounding other plastic items that hold food, BPA leaching. A hot drink does increase the amount of leaching compared to a cold drink but many containers also use plastic with BPA so if you are replacing a plastic container your consumption of BPA doesn't change. Additionally as this device would only be used a couple days per year the increase would not be a problem, mostly because we are constantly consuming BPA all the time and have bee since the 60s

  • @merianyas1162

Really neat little set. Those gourds are really versatile. I'm concerned about the metal rings you used along the rims, though. Unless they are food-safe you may end up with metals like nickel, lead, aluminum, etc. leeching into your drink. Also, your beverage may heat them up while you're drinking, which gets pretty uncomfortable on the lips (I know this one from personal experience with a camping mug I purchased a while back).

    • @startrek2365
      @startrek2365 Год назад +4

Cool project man, Argentinian here. Just wanted to clarify some terms, because we really are a bit complicated. The drink is called "mate" not "yerba mate". A good idea, but I have a couple observations and suggestions. First, hot liquids make metal hot, which can feel uncomfortable against one's lips. Second, using two metals, steel and aluminum, might create a unwanted galvanic reaction. Third, if you wanted to make a pitcher, maybe leave the upper part of the gourd so that you can tie handles in the neck like you did with the water bottle, and; fourth, you can carve a spout. Fifth, you can create a set of cups by using the tops of several additional gourds, and; sixth, you can use the bottoms of those additional gourds as jars with lids of cork and/or wood for holding dry herbage for teas, tisanes, and tinctures or other sundry items.

I honestly thought the two parts would screw together into one unit for easy transport but I kinda like how it turned out better.
This is the kind of stuff you get when the Artificer multiclasses into Druid.

I really love this one. Thinking of making these for some friends in the SCA, going to try to come up with a way for it to have a screw top. (Don't want to use anything metal in it, last time I burned my lip when I made that mistake.) Thanks, and keep up the good work!!!

Maybe use a small neodymium magnet to keep the two halves together easier

so awesome and fun as always!!
of course i have some thoughts on the functionality/practicality(feel free to ignore lol):
Gourds will eventually decay, polluting your water, even faster so with hot liquids. maybe one could seal their gourd with preservatives of some sort? i know it was cured, but i wouldn't want to drink hot tea out of that without at least a filter.
There's not a lot of insulation in a gourd, so your drink likely wouldn't stay warm for too long. not much to be done about that though, i think.
using a scorch marker probably compromises some of its integrity(what little it had) so it's good you didn't do too much of it
the cup and pot don't seem to fit snug together, so you wouldn't be able to bring a drink on the go, and definitely not heat over the fire, but it is a lovely home set.

It's often the simplest thing that really impresses you, this is one that truly impressed me! The only thing i might have done differently is trying to make a tighter seal between the two pieces, and cover the insides of them with something to make them last longer.

I would add a hook or strap to keep the cup and teapot together. Otherwise, I love this!!!

Just watched your last videos. Idea for laser cuter, make some wooden coins with your logo on one side and a QR code on the other. Have a few in your pocket and hand them out at your larp events

You could make a ring for the smaller and larger cup to sit in.
Also, you can use a small piece of 100% cotton as a tea bag to keep all of your tea together.

Bro. As much as I love when you plan something out and then execute it, watching your idea evolve was one of the most satisfying videos I’ve ever seen. I’d still love to see you do a gourd where the top part becomes a cup that also seals to the main body. Perhaps an internal neck that slides into the mouth of the smaller cup? And attaches to the larger vessel, but can still be detached. Just an idea.
Also, on your leather projects, have you ever thought of edge lacing? It looks super clean and adds strength and durability to the edges.
    Keep leveling up, you.

This sort of thing could be cool for my ranger who has a magic bottle that makes infinite tea. I don't drink tea myself so I had no idea what that would look like, but maybe it could look like this.

I recommend for the cup, to drill similar holes on the legs and the cup. Using the food safe silicon as a seal, do the threading you did to hold/decorate the legs.

it's been a while since I've been on this channel, feels like visiting an old friend. thanks for the video! reminds me of the simple improvised teacups in avatar that Uncle Iroh used while on the run. I've actually been waiting for you to make these since you made the beer steins. your finishes are getting better and you making things that look manufactured. you should level up your drawing skills though, lol. idk why but I find this piece truly moving, it is very beautiful I hope you enjoy it. especially when you think about the fact that this started as a seed, tree, fruit, now beautiful tea set. this is sincerely wonderful, and it brightened my day.
