Time, time, time
See what's become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities
I was so hard to please
Look around
Leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Susanna Hoffs side eye glance will forever melt my heart.
One of the greatest music moves ever!
Never thought anyone could do this song justice since Simon and Garfunkel's original is absolutely phenomenal. HOWEVER this is just as phenomenal. I love both versions.
God damn i miss the 80's. what a great time to be alive
It was the best time!! ❤
Yes it was!!!
Not really, but it's a nice to look back at the good times

I was just a kid, but I agree and know what you mean.
That little smile that Suzanne throws off ❤❤❤❤ 80's crush
80's crush, 90's crush, 2000's crush, 2010's crush, 2020's crush, and then some.
Isn't her first name "Susanna"? (Susanna Hoffs, if I'm not mistaken)
@@not-so-smartaleck8987 yes
She's awesome. All of them are cool but I will say the lead guitarist comes off a little annoying to me. She tries to do all these "I'm rockin' out!" poses as if she's playing Barracuda or Immigrant Song and it appears a little silly on a pop song like this.
@@WithaJoeFro That's because you do not know the backstory to what was going on in the band and what eventually led to them breaking up. Susanna Hoffs was being "groomed" by producers as the lead, the face of the band (which, I might rightly point out, was a good decision, she is by far the most charismatic, as most will agree) - but the other band members could not accept that and that led to fracturing, posturing, and the whole "only me" syndrome that eventually broke the band up.
Fair play to the band for taking the huge risk of doing a cover version of a classic song and doing it right. They've orchestrated it very well and it still stands up even after thirty odd years.
And then and now it's one of the best covers of a SnG song ever recorded. The band Rehab out of Georgia did a GREAT version of Sound of Silence. Beats the hell outta the Disturd version.
@@ericjohn8466 excuse me,Disturd?? I get you don't like disturbed, but that's a huge disrespect to the cover they made which is regardless one of the best songs they've made even if it was a cover
@@giltyakhtar and if a cover song is one of the best songs theyve ever done shows me you have the musical depth of the parking lot puddle. Not for nothing, their grandkid's grandkids are gonna be millionaires. I think Draiman is one of the worst frontmen and beyond self serving with his brothers and sistera schtick on stage and then he goes and ruins a classic.
Beautiful song x
Suzanna Hoffs has held up amazingly well after 30 years as well. She’s still gorgeous.
That guitar riff.
That drum fill.
That everything.
The Bangles are sooo hot.
And yet most people only know them for "Walk Like An Egyptian". Fucking shame, I'd say. This songs proves they were criminally under-rated. So much wasted potential.
The descending baseline that leads into the chorus.

Yes!!! 80s rule!
Sorry, but life is about moving forward, and not dwelling on the past--so get over yourself, and live your current life to the fullest! ...Besides, who says the 80s were so great?!? Some of us might say the 60s-70s were better, at least in terms of legendary music--as opposed to light-weight pop songs of later generations.
I've been stuck in the 80's my WHOLE Life and has NO Plan to leave the greatest decade we've blessed with, Anytime Soon !!!
One of the greatest cover versions of any song ever. Never would have thought The Bangles could have done a late-80s Hard Rock/New Wave cover of a little-known Simon & Garfunkel song, but they did and it was brilliant.
You hit the nail on the head
its an awesome song to play in the fall... Autumn
Well the one thing these girls always had going was harmonies and that helps on ant Simon and Garfunkel tune
Strange when the cover is the version they play on the radio. So I thought this was the original didn't even know the other existed.
Oh I had no idea. It's like covers are where the real art expression appears

my first time for most of these, we couldn't get cable in Brooklynn back then
@dan goth The original is probably a good song, but this version *rocks*
this is definitely one of those times when a cover truly surpasses the original.
Edit: mainly because of the riff, what she does to it is magic.
Blinded by the Light was also a great cover...
ITS TERRIBLE!!!
I have to agree!
They sound great and it is a very good cover but, there is only one original. I can't say it surpasses the Simon and Garfunkel original.
The Bangles are such a great band
The best remake of all time.
Suzanna Hoff's eyes should be one of the seven wonders of the world
Make that 2 of the seven wonders.
The rest of her ain't too shabby....
No kidding! She still looks absolutely stunning at age 60!!!!
Vikki Petersen is pretty hot in this too
Amen to that
Now that the Go-Go's have been inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame,I hope The Bangles will be next.
The Bangles are so superior to the Go-Gos it's not funny. The Go-Gos sound like a bunch of cheerleaders--no harmony, just shouting. But given the politics and bias, and the fact that the whole institution was poorly thought out and executed from the beginning, I'd consider it more a badge of honor (and would be in better company) if I weren't inducted into it.
AGREED!!! It wasn’t until 2022 that Duran Duran was finally inducted. The political aspect outweighs the true greatness of rock and roll. The Bangles belong there!
@@MrTrashcan1 The Bangles are not superior to the Go-Gos. The Go-Gos wrote all their own songs, and the Bangles never had a record anywhere close to the Go-Gos first.
@@marcgrossman980 Agree. If nothing else, I think the Go-Gos had more catchy hit songs than the Bangles. (Besides, who cares about the lame-ass "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame"? Or the even more lame-ass "Hollywood Walk of Fame"...IMHO the only REAL Halls of Fame are the sports Halls of Fame for the 4 major North American team sports: baseball, football, basketball & hockey. Anyway, the Hollywood- and pop music-types get enough "fame" and/or glory as it is, without creating these bogus "Halls"/"Walks" of Fame...or for that matter, the ridiculous "EGOT" distinction, yawn.)
Hey, both were good.
I feel like this song is the epitome of The Bangles and demonstrates what it is they really wanted to do as a band, as opposed to what the record label pushed and most of the big hits we got from them. I try to imagine what the band would have been like if they'd had things more their way over what the people managing them and the labels pushed them to be.
That opening guitar riff deserves it's own spot in the Rock Hall of Fame.
That riff, the tone of the guitar, and the entire song are produced way too thin. It's produced like a pop band instead of a rock band, and the lead guitarist is trying way too hard to look like she's playing Immigrant Song or Barracuda instead of a pop song.

Always love this girl band group
It is not too short - it is perfect. No note wasted.
They had to cut part of it though. There was a reference to "drinking my vodka and lime" that the record company cut. And they cut more than that to fit.
The original was lomger.
But you can always press play again 😉
Susanna Hoffs just had a birthday her 65th if I'm not mistaken.. From 1986 to the end of 1989 these girls graced our radios every day. Memories !
This song was always playing at the college center when I was at Community college. This may be the most improved song from original to cover I've ever heard.
Still watching this in 2024! What a great time the 80s were
I still love The Bangles and Robert Downey. I've watched Less Than Zero quite a few times and I'm glad he made it out of hell. For people who don't know it because they're too young, RD Jr. was an addict and practically killed himself because of that. Look at where he is now. I just wanted to mention it because if you're an addict, don't give up. He was in such bad shape and he fought his way back. If you're despondent, just remember you can fight addiction. Please get help. Sending love and hope to all suffering.
Ironic how he played a character that (besides the prostitution) he mirrored in his real life. I'm very glad he's back and made it through too!
Anyone that can come back from thst is inspiring! Love those kind of stories I’m best friends with a former drug addict and I saw him through his darkest days and I’m so happy he made it out to the other side, it’s the best kind of story to tell being a survivor watching this movie brought me to tears because it was a reality for me at one time.
Thanks ... that is encouraging

I really appreciate that you’re explaining the backstory a little for some people who might not now. But please don’t assume, that only because someone is young, they don’t know about stuff that happened before they were born :) Anyways, this song is amazing!
I particularly like this one because all four of them are singing together. It was their best harmony.

First of all, Hoffs is still a stunner now at 65 years old. Second of all, you have to give a shout out to the man who wrote this song, Mr. Paul Simon. Who is now in his 80s and is still performing live. Although nowadays that's on a part-time basis.
Also, I've never seen Less Than Zero, so I can't really comment on that movie.

Who would have thought growing old would happen sooo fast?
Didn't happen for Susanna Hoffs - she's apparently immortal!
Ditto, but we made it to midlife!
The Bangles really did this song justice! Awesome!
Susanna was so respectful and humble about doing the cover and meeting Paul Simon after it did so well on the charts. On the Bangles website, she talks about meeting Paul Simon after watching Simon & Garfunkel in concert: "We had loved Simon & Garfunkel, and naturally we also loved Paul as a solo artist, and we were really happy to see them perform and then go backstage for a meet-and-greet. This was after our version of 'Hazy Shade of Winter' had come out, and although I don't think we talked about it very much, I remember he was very sweet, and I'm sure he was happy the song had done so well. I think it's always good to have your song covered, but it was a little uncomfortable talking to him about it, because when Simon & Garfunkel did the song, it had gone to #17 (sic), and the Bangles version went to #2. You're proud, of course, but you never want to come off as full of yourself or arrogant you know?"
This is the best cover of Hazy Shade of Winter since S&G and proved that the Bangles were a band to be taken seriously
They really were a "band to be taken seriously", So much clever material, super tight production, and "Michael" was "way more" then she ever got props for, Yea, check out everything other than "Manic Monday, and Walk Egyptian", no matter what your "main genre" is , "good music is good music", just let it soak in, this was a great fucking band
Check out the version by Foxes and Fossils.

IRON-MAN! TONY RULES!😎✌
The best work he has ever done
Fantastic driving bassline. Drums are rock solid. Props to Michael and Debbi for absolutely killing the rhythm section on this track.
If you think her playing was great, you should hear Michael Steel singing. Incredible voice.
@@Shadow_Sonata Wow, didn't know that, but interested to find out more!
Michael does not get the respect she deserves
This is in the movie "Less than Zero". I remember it well. After graduation I joined the military, my best friend went to college. He died of a drug overdose a short time later. Here's to you Patrick. Just like in the movie life doesn't go how dreamed it would.
Today's music blow's nothing can touch this music nothing we rule 🤘🎸 Gen x 🤘🤘🤘
Heard the Simon & Garfunkel version of this song. Both versions (ie The Bangles version and the Simon & Garfunkel version) have their own distinct appeal.
yeah i heard the original also and this version blows the original out by a mile
