I think you’d really dig “Round Here”, It really showcases the lead singer’s (Adam Duritz) voice, which is so captivating and emotional. It was one of their first hits, alongside Mr. Jones. ✌️💙
there's a lot of tears in the comments. memories, times past, people come and gone this song was around when a lot of peoples' events were going on, changing lives, moving on, becoming who we are, I'm so glad you found this one, it's very special to a lot of people.
That album “ August and Everything After” is a fantastic album. One of the few albums in my opinion without a bad song on it. Counting crows are lyrically one of the greatest bands and musicians are awesome too. Hopefully you guys won’t wait too long to react to another song from this album. I will suggest Anna begins or round here.
Yep, any song on that album would be a great next song for them to do. I also really love Recovering The Satellites as well. It’s a different feel, but has so much passion. I don’t think I actually listened to them after that follow up to this perfect album.
"Mr. Jones" is Marty Jones, a friend of lead singer Adam Duritz. Before Duritz joined Counting Crows, they were in a band together called The Himalayans. On an episode of VH1's Storytellers, Adam explained: "It's really a song about my friend Marty and I. We went out one night to watch his dad play, his dad was a Flamenco guitar player who lived in Spain (David Serva), and he was in San Francisco in the mission playing with his old Flamenco troupe. And after the gig we all went to this bar called the New Amsterdam in San Francisco on Columbus and we got completely drunk. And Marty and I sat at the bar staring at these two girls, wishing there was some way we could go talk to them, but we were too shy. We kept joking with each other that if we were big rock stars instead of such loser, low-budget musicians, this would be easy. I went home that night and I wrote a song about it.
“August and Everything After” by Counting Crows is one of the seminal albums of the 1990s. Other great, very famous songs from that record, “Round Here”, “Omaha”, and “Rain King”, but my favorite Counting Crows track is “Anna Begins”. It’s a fantastic deep cut from a fantastic band. They had a couple of other songs that were hits, “A Long December” is probably their most famous.
The entire album holds up really well. Their second album Recovering the Satellites I thought was just as good. Also, the lead singer dated Jennifer Aniston for a while...
Another band from this era is The Wallflowers, led by Bob Dylan’s son. Their song 6th Avenue Heartache features Adam here on background vocals and they make it magical.
This is from one of the greatest debut albums of all time. The band is made up great musicians. Check out Long December, Good Night Elizabeth, Round Here, Sullivan Street, or American Girls
Every single song on this album is glorious. Please listen to "Round Here." Or literally any other song on this album....can't believe ot has been almost 30 years.
Not even this album. This band was big but I will dare to call them underrated. They had so many good albums. Long December might be my favorite song but it’s a tough choice
Definitely one of the biggest bands of the 90s, and right in the same alternative vibe with Goo Goo Dolls, matchbox twenty (Rob Thomas's band), and the Dave Matthews Band. Adam Duritz definitely had one of the most distinctive voices of that decade! "Mr. Jones" was their debut single, in 1993. They followed it up with some tremendous tracks like "Round Here", "Einstein on the Beach", "Rain King", "A Long December", and "Hanginaround". While I'm at it, I would recommend "Bent" by matchbox twenty, "Ants Marching" by Dave Matthews Band, "King of New Orleans" by Better Than Ezra, "Where the River Flows" by Collective Soul, "The Way" by Fastball, and "Walk on the Ocean" by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Those are some GREAT 90's jams! (Bonus trivia - this song was produced by T-Bone Burnett, who was in Bob Dylan's band in the 1970s.)
I agree they were one of the best bands of the 90’s along with DMB, Hootie & The Blowfish, REM but Matchbox Twenty doesn’t belong on that list. They were a great band but pure pop.
I'm not positive, but I think the line is "She's SOUTHERN & beautiful" - since he is talking about the Spanish flamenco dancer. That's what I always thought anyways.
Dang… I’m listening to this reaction and getting tears in my eyes. Even thirty years (!!) later this brings back such a visceral memory, and I can literally smell my hair products, face lotion, and foundation (Covergirl Clean with Noxzema, anyone??) from back in high school when I’d play this album getting ready for school. I don’t think I’d want to relive my teen years again but maybeeee just one day? Or week? In any case, this singer-songwriter type music, like grunge, is soooo quintessentially 90s. And I love that you love it!
You are so sweet. I have the same kind of reactions listening to songs from the past and being the age I am, have a particular fondness for the 60's through the 90's. I too love this song, and the entire album which I listened to over and over again when it came out. I loved it so much, I learned how to play Rain King on my guitar.
Counting Crows... one of my fave bands of all time. Adam Duritz is a brilliant songwriter. A deep rabbit hole to explore. Mrs. Potter. ... Recovering the Satellites... Rain King... Omaha.... Miami.... Long December... Holiday in Spain.... Such a great band!
As someone who has seen CC around 10 times live, the thing that really makes Adam unique as a singer is he can sing the same song 100 different times and sing it differently every time, with melodic and rhythmic variations throughout, and it will sound amazing every time. He is a singing savant.
Greatest thing about seeing them live is you never know what you're going to get. They never just play the same show over and over again. I'm with you, seen them about 15 times and it never gets old.
There's nothing like the 90s sound. From Dave Matthews, Blues Travelers, Counting Crows, Gin Blossoms, Sister Hazel, and so much more. You should react to all these bands. It will really open you eyes to a great Genre of Music.
Anna Begins still breaks my heart almost 30 years later. August and Everything After is one of the best and most underrated albums of the past 40 years.
Oh Yes!!! One of the coolest songs ever. I would play it on a loop when it came out. The lyrics are amazing! Try listening to "Rain King" and "Long December".
The lead singer ended up being a bar tender at The Viper Club that at the time was owned by Johnny Depp. He proclaimed that it saved his life being the bar tender there. This is also the place and time where River Phoenix passed away. Excellent documentary. It was part of the Dark Side of the 90's on Hulu.
As happy as this song makes everyone, I'd recommend wrapping yourself in a blanket, on a dreary day, and listening to their first 2 albums, and sobbing your eyes out, but in a really good and cathartic way :)
Love Love Love Counting Crows!!! So many songs to choose… fun fact.. In this song Adam Duritz sings throughout the whole song without a break for a guitar solo. Not typical songwriting format.
It is so funny to hear you call my all time favourite band a hidden gem. So glad you discovered them. Every one of their songs is a gem to me and they are still making great music. The 90s are still alive with the Counting Crows. Love you guys!
I remember when this album, and especially this song, first came out. There was NOTHING "hidden" about it. MTV had it on heavy repeat (back when they still knew what the M stood for in their name). I didn't get swept away like the rest of the world seemed to be, but the band endures and I've grown to appreciate them more as I've gotten older. Mrs. Potter's Lullaby, in particular, is a remarkable song. Eight minutes of repetitive music with no musical solos, and you get to the end wondering why the song ended so quickly. There are several Rob Squad has reacted to that need more attention than they've gotten, and even more that have yet to make the channel. There is no shortage of Counting Crows songs that deserve a reaction. Random tangent: I hate the song "Big Yellow Taxi". Been covered a thousand times, and even the most popular versions (Amy Grant) always turn my stomach. Then I heard Counting Crows cover it. Don't ask me why, but not only do I not hate it, I really, really like their cover. It is another on the long list of songs that would make a good reaction video.
My best friend in the whole world passed away about ten years ago and when this album came out it was like "our" album. There is one song in particular called Round Here that she always said reminded her of me. But really you can't go wrong with any song on the entire album August and Everything After! Great reaction. Rest peacefully, until we meet again, Gaetana!
You know what I love love LOVE? That you both had the very same feelings and response I did 30 years ago as a 20 year old, unsuspecting college kid sitting on the sofa watching this video on MTV for the very first time! It was magic then, and I absolutely loved watching you experience this song in the very same way!
This song was a huge hit in the ‘90s and is what caused me to buy their CD, which is very good overall. Adam’s voice has been described as “world-weary,” which I think is very apt. Now I have to go back and listen to the album. 😊
Raining in Baltimore from the album August and Everything After and A Long December from the album Recovering the Satellites are a must. There is a line in Long December that goes; " The smell of hospitals in Winter and the feeling that it's all a load of oysters but no pearls" is a devastating line.
He was a bartender at the club Johnny Depp owned in L.A. after this band’s explosion of success. He talks about it a lot in a documentary about the death of River Phoenix (who died outside of the club one night). About how he couldn’t cope well with fame and the bartending grounded him and gave him stability.
Counting Crows - Must do "A Long December". Gotta gotta gotta. Love how (your boy) J smiled all through this one. Love the reaction from both of you. "A Long December"
This is the song that put Counting Crows on the map! Y’all need to react to their songs: Omaha, Round Here, Long December, Angels of the Silences and Hanging Around They are so so good and one of my favorite bands
Counting Crows was untouchable in their day - I saw them live 30+ times in the 90s into the early 2000s…still some of the best shows ever. Adam Duritz is a brilliant lyricist, and as a band the musicianship is solid. I can’t recommend their first 3 albums enough. You may want to check out some of their live stuff (any live version of Round Here is worth the time). Love that you dug this so much. Thank you for bringing so much love and warmth to the world! ❤️
I would literally recommend every Counting Crows album... there's very few bands I would do that for. All of their hits are from the 90s, but even their more recent albums are outstanding.
@@deadpolymers3416 I agree - I think I tend to view those first 3 like the essential trilogy as an intro to the band. AAEA, RTS and TDL are all so different but equally amazing. I feel like after those, as a new listener I would naturally want to keep going to the newer stuff. Sometimes I forget just how good this CC is.
We saw them in Baltimore at Hammerjacks right after this album came out. The place was so packed that our feet were off the ground. I'm sure it was a fire code violation, but it was a great concert. This entire album is a masterpiece. Please, listen to more of them.
I have so many memories of dancing around our college apartment to this. Their song, Rain King, is my fave. Long December is beautiful. Have you all done Blues Traveler yet? Those 2 bands and Rob Thomas in Matchbox 20 were the same era.
Love the vibe of this era, I moved into NYC in the 90's and this song really brings back great memories. Love this video so much, the lead Singer is just so amazing to watch and that voice!!! 💜
Love Counting Crows, Goodnight Elizabeth, Possibility Days, Colour Blind, Round Here, Perfect Blue Buildings and everything from the first and second album.❤❤❤
Counting Crows are in my all time Top 10. A lot of people wrote them off after the 90s, but they released a dozen amazing albums. The group never fails to put out a good album.
@@Pax_Mayn3 I just came across this. I know it's been 10 months, but "Recovering the Satellites", the band's second album is their most melancholy studio album. However, their live double album "Across a Wire" (one live acoustic & one live electric), has some outstanding downbeat songs on the acoustic album.
This was one of my best friends songs growing up, unfortunately he passed away in 2017, he was fishing and had a seizure and no one was around him and he drowned in the Lake Pleasant AZ, and it always brings me to tears when I hear this. Love you guys and thank you for reacting to this. Kenny would have loved this!! Love you guys!!
I gotta say, these reactions are awesome because songs that I’ve heard a million times get a fresh new feel when you watch it through the eyes of people who haven’t heard songs like this!! ‘Round here’ is a song I’d like to see you guys react to!!🤙
Blast from my past. Went back to college to finish my degree in the early 1990s and MTV was still playing music videos back then. I'd come in from class, plop down on the couch for a bit and watch videos like this. Looking back it was a great time in my life. Busy, but great. But back to the early 90s - there was a shocking amount of great, great music then.
Its really cool to see how young people today react to what , imo, was the best period in music- the 70s, 80s, and 90s..I had much the same reactions when i saw or heard these songs originally.
Their first album "August and Everything After" is the definition of a masterpiece album. HIGHLY recommend listening to "Round Here" and "Perfect Blue Buildings" -- they are pure poetry. I could spend an entire school semester analyzing the opening stanza to "Round Here" which is the opening track on the album. Other incredible songs on that album are "Omaha", "Rain King" and "A Murder of One". Just go listen to the whole thing -- the lyrics will blow your mind.
The singer sings off the back of the beat almost late on the beat Sounds cool not many artists use that style that really how you can tell it's him singing🎉
I think you’d really dig “Round Here”, It really showcases the lead singer’s (Adam Duritz) voice, which is so captivating and emotional. It was one of their first hits, alongside Mr. Jones. ✌️💙
round here is my fave
Same. ❤ Round Here
Round here is a fantastic song
Round here is so poetic. Adam is so poetic in his lyrics
Was going to recommend that... but it's really fucking sad. Didn't know if I wanted to do that to them. But I guess here we go.
there's a lot of tears in the comments. memories, times past, people come and gone this song was around when a lot of peoples' events were going on, changing lives, moving on, becoming who we are, I'm so glad you found this one, it's very special to a lot of people.

You Bet! One of my Desert Island albums. Best Album of '94 IMHO.
@@BoomerMcBoom yeah mine too, so good I’ve bought the cd twice as it was stolen at a party and couldn’t not have it in my collection 😊
Absolutely not one bad song. Start to finish.
Yep, any song on that album would be a great next song for them to do. I also really love Recovering The Satellites as well. It’s a different feel, but has so much passion. I don’t think I actually listened to them after that follow up to this perfect album.
Agreed
They used to play this song every 5 minutes in the 90's.
This is so true it should be the litmus test for determining who actually lived in the 90's.
Only when Hootie wasn’t being played.
I member
😂😂😂
I can appreciate it now, but man, at the time I disliked it so much because it was overplayed.
I'd also like to cast my vote for "A Long December". More of a somber tune, but so good.
YES! It's part of my new year playlist.
Great song!
In my head because of you now: "Maybe this one will be...better than...the last..." ;)
Such a heartbreaking track. Great suggestion.
Omaha, Round Here, man there are so many greats on that album
Love this song.
You nailed it AMBER! He's not just a singer he is a true artist! 👍
Post Script: He has a Van Morrison style especially with his Sha la la la and of course his voice. The band too 😉💯
Victor, its interesting you say that. That's kind of how they got their big break. By filling in for Van at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
"Mr. Jones" is Marty Jones, a friend of lead singer Adam Duritz. Before Duritz joined Counting Crows, they were in a band together called The Himalayans.

Yup, "Anna Begins" is beautiful song.
Totally agree with "Anna Begins", two other hidden gems are "Holiday in Spain" and "Einstein on the Beach".
Yes! Anna Begins is by far one of those deep cut tracks that is a mist hear. Absolutely love it!
Round Here and Anna Begins are so good. I saw them in Feb at The Stone Pony in Asbury Park before they "made it". They were amazing live
The entire album holds up really well.
Their second album Recovering the Satellites I thought was just as good.
Also, the lead singer dated Jennifer Aniston for a while...

YES!! "Accidentally In Love" from the Shrek soundtrack is a great song too.
September '97 saw the Wallflowers open for Counting Crows at the Glen Helen Pavilion in Devore, Ca. Great Concert!!!
I too saw the Wallflowers open for the Counting Crows amazing concert.

Also Gin Blossoms "Alison Road", "Hey Jealousy", and "Found Out About You".
"He's Art"! Excellent Excellent Excellent - Amber you nailed it

Yeah, Sullivan Street.
Don‘t forget about „Anna begins“. The live at town hall gig is amazing
Greatest debut.... I'd have to go with Led Zeppelin 1

Totally. Just a beautiful song. Poetry set to music.
Their version of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" with Vanessa Carlton is awesome.

@@foreveralone11w Sullivan Street is soooo underrated! So brilliant.
@@foreveralone11w I will have to listen to those songs. They don’t ring a bell. Thanks for suggesting them.
Did y'all ever follow-up and cover more Counting Crows? Because, man, y'all, you should.
He was a bartender at the club Johnny Depp owned in L.A. after this band’s explosion of success. He talks about it a lot in a documentary about the death of River Phoenix (who died outside of the club one night). About how he couldn’t cope well with fame and the bartending grounded him and gave him stability.
Viper Room! You might’ve served me.
came here to say this. Really sad to see TVR turn into just another LA dive bar but I guess it was a different place after River Pheonix Died
@@dogstar75 Yeah, that was a LONG time ago, like 1993.
I love watching J through this reaction. The look on his face was priceless! Pure enjoyment!
His voice is one of the most unique sounds in music. So much more to listen to from them.
Counting Crows - Must do "A Long December". Gotta gotta gotta. Love how (your boy) J smiled all through this one. Love the reaction from both of you. "A Long December"
This is the song that put Counting Crows on the map!
Y’all need to react to their songs: Omaha, Round Here, Long December, Angels of the Silences and Hanging Around
They are so so good and one of my favorite bands
Omaha is my favorite! But every track on August and Everything After is a banger.
My favorite from Counting Crows is Mrs. Potters Lullaby. It just makes you want to throw your hands up and dance!
"Long December" is another of their big hits and it is absolutely worth a watch/listen. Great tune
Definitely not a “hidden” gem but a gem. They were pretty huge at the time.
You guys should check out their song called Hangin Around, watch the video not the lyric video
This song is still a vibe! Hangin around, Long December, Rain king are a few good ones to check out next!
They are great storytellers, that's for sure. All those beautiful colors...
Love the Counting Crows! American Girls, Daylight Fading, A Long December are just a few of their hits. Also Accidentally in Love from Shrek 2.
Best band and writers of the 90s. Listen to some of their acoustic sets. Round here will change things. Promise. Love to you both for what you do ❤️
I have so many memories of dancing around our college apartment to this. Their song, Rain King, is my fave. Long December is beautiful. Have you all done Blues Traveler yet? Those 2 bands and Rob Thomas in Matchbox 20 were the same era.
Adam, the lead singer, actually got a gig as a bartender AFTER his band blew up, just to get away from the fame. He’s a great dude btw
Their harmonies and melodies are truly infectious. "The Rain King" and "A Murder of One" are some other great cuts off of this album.
Both absolute gold
I love this band, absolutely wore out this album! Good review
My favorite song of all time 💪💪💪
Your kidding
Amber, you said his vibe makes you want to be his friend. That's the way you and Jordan make us feel every day. ❤
Please, please, please do anything from their album August and Everything After!!! One of his biggest influences is Bob Dylan.
There’s the whole Mr Jones and Bob Dylan scene in I’m Not Here which is what I think of when I hear this.
Love the vibe of this era, I moved into NYC in the 90's and this song really brings back great memories. Love this video so much, the lead Singer is just so amazing to watch and that voice!!! 💜
Yay!! One of my top 5 songs of all time. I will never get sick of this song.🥰
"August and Everything After". Brilliant album! What a great song.
This album has no skips!
Yes! One of the very few I can think of. (Also PJ Ten and Jagged Little Pill)
There will never be another 90s…
Love Counting Crows, Goodnight Elizabeth, Possibility Days, Colour Blind, Round Here, Perfect Blue Buildings and everything from the first and second album.❤❤❤
Counting Crows are in my all time Top 10. A lot of people wrote them off after the 90s, but they released a dozen amazing albums. The group never fails to put out a good album.
I really like “Elevator Boots”. And I’ve watched Adam Duritz make marinara sauce on his cooking show.
Suggestion for an album? I like melancholy type sounds.
The backing vocals are great. One of my favorite 90's songs.
God I miss the 90s…
This was one of my best friends songs growing up, unfortunately he passed away in 2017, he was fishing and had a seizure and no one was around him and he drowned in the Lake Pleasant AZ, and it always brings me to tears when I hear this. Love you guys and thank you for reacting to this. Kenny would have loved this!! Love you guys!!
Glenn Frey- The One You Love. Amber will love the horns
I gotta say, these reactions are awesome because songs that I’ve heard a million times get a fresh new feel when you watch it through the eyes of people who haven’t heard songs like this!! ‘Round here’ is a song I’d like to see you guys react to!!🤙
If you haven't done HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH you should check them out. Very simular to counting crows🙂
@Rikke Meek
They reacted to "Let Her Cry" by *Hootie & The Blowfish* a couple of months ago, and also "Wagon Wheel" by lead singer, Darius Rucker.
Shiryl Crow's "I want to have some fun" is a song you guys should react too... A gem from 1995 ... It's a Classic
Sheryl.
All I Wanna Do.
I'd pick 'Everyday Is A Winding Road"
Most people know them from this song but the album this came from, August and Everything After, has so many great tunes.
"He's art, he is a form of human expression"
Amberism at it's finest! Great song.
The singer sings off the back of the beat almost late on the beat
Sounds cool not many artists use that style that really how you can tell it's him singing🎉
Loved watching this reaction, the true joy music can bring. This whole album is great!
Love Jay's reaction in this one!! One of my favorite songs ever!
