This is one of my favourite scenes too. She and her adoptive daughter have been on opposite ends most of movie and since her and her bother were little. She only bonded and felt close to her adoptive father. But as the movie goes on she eventually meets her biological mom and doesn't get the reception and acceptance she was hoping for. After her adoptive father has a heart attack and a talk with her husband she realizes the woman who only wanted to care and love her is a parent and her mom. She comes to visit and they have a moment of connection. She let's her adoptive mom in and the mom embraces her the way she always wanted. Just a scene of love and understanding. Great film.

The funny thing is the whole time the adoptive daughter resisted her adoptive mother, she had all the characteristic or quirks, which are showed later on. This was a very good movie
I enjoyed this scene so much. The daughter finally realized just how much her adoptive mother loved and cared for her. Her birth mom no offense was a trouble maker sneaky demanding and critical. I’m so glad these two started mending their relationship.
This was a great scene. The Mary Alice charecter tried so hard to get her adoptive Vietnamese daughter to love her. The daughter refused, not wanting to betray her birth mother. The daughter is grown now and finally connects with birth mother. She learns birth mother is trash. Mary Alice by then had given up on connecting with adoptive daughter. But the adoptive daughter realizes her adoptive mother is good and regrets being such an ass toward her. In this scene Mary Alice is about to walk away, to protect herself from further rejection. That's when the daughter puts up her hand to ask her not to go. Mary Alice cries because she finally got the love she deserves.
Hahaha years later scene is explained. Asian girl including her brother were adopted by this black couple and she never accepted them as her parents till one day she is able to reunite with her real mom who doesn't care about her and is only concerned for her brother. This scene is the daughter's acceptance and need for the step mother which has never been expressed before.
Nah, she's her adopted mother. They never got along really, until her adopted father gets into health trouble. This is the first scene where Lauren Thom shows Mary Alice motherly affection.
The adopted daughter was old enough to know and remember her mother in and outside of Vietnam so she was holding onto hope that her birth mother would love her just as much or more. Therefore, as happens with an older adopted child, Lauren Tom's character refuses to love her adoptive mother for fear of betraying her own mom. Her baby brother on the other hand was so young that he really didn't remember his blood mom and so bonded strongly with his adopted mom and dad. The real mom turns out to only really want her 'baby boy' and this breaks her daughter's heart. She finally realizes that she had love all along ....just from a 'different' mother.
