I like the idea, that they are already implemented in the game and are just waiting to be revealed by some explorer stumbling upon them.
The explorer freaks out and starts shooting at them and doomed both races into a long and devastating war, this time without a super virus in out hands.
If this got implemented in this way, E:D has the biggest community triggered event of all games. As one player changed the game for everyone.
+Nico Sänger It would end up being a pretty big historical event in the game. Even if by mistake, the player fires a single shot, all hell breaks loose.
Kárpáti Gergely
I bought my first Python bearly minutes ago, so I am prepared for everything. Ok it sucks hard atm, I bought it with ~ 58 mio Cr :D
I hope i get to be that lucky player. For First Contact on a peacefull basis is my priority. both in this game, and in real life. (:
+Nico Sänger Considering the development cycle of E:D, I doubt they're even anywhere close to actually implementing it.
Sad, but true.

I think we will see Aliens by the end of the Horizons Season. They called the last big content update "???" and nothing alien like was mentioned before. So we get the first encounter in Horizons with some skirmishes and the full blown alien interaction will be the next Season.
At least would I develop/publish it this way. So you get your players hyped for the next season.
i really REALLY hope that when they do introduce the Thargoids they don't announce it, they just quietly slip it in with whatever patch or expansion they are releasing at the time. I think it would be cool for nobody to know they are in the game until they actually encounter one. could you imagine exploring and coming across a Thargoid fleet or station or trade convoy and when you go on the forums to talk about it nobody believe you because it wasn't in the patch notes. you have to actually post pics or a video for anyone to believe you. I think that would be an awesome way to surprise the player base and make the Thargoids re-emergence feel more natural and lest scripted
+ ndcouch (Seria magnifico!) It would be magnificent!
Unfortunately stuff like this will be data mined long before it just randomly happens to a player out in the middle of space :(
+Jaevwyn and thats why they keep teh Universe on a central server :p
Marius Eckardt
had no idea, thank god!!
bring on the thargoids!
It seems the Unknown Artefact's mystery is reaching a climax. We can probably expect a gigantic reveal on the nature of the Artefacts or the existence of the Thargoids soon.
I hope theyre gonna be really scary. Imagine finding a derelict ship that we can EVA into and seeing a mangled human on board with parts of it cut open from an autopsy. And also they took a rectal core sample
+Jetorax eyyyy lmao
+Jetorax Mybe something like the Yuuzhan Vong?
+Pedro Joao We better hope not. Those fuckers were terrifying.
+Jetorax Sounds more like the dead space games. :D
Lol keep your rectal fantasies to yourself
So many stars. So many possibilities. And as Douglas Adams reminds us, "Space is Big. Really big."
DJ Weideman So much potential! :)
DJ Weideman I have found one of those strange artifacts yet......how did you?
DJ Weideman You said big ? Think bigger :)
www.mnn.com/earth-matters/space/stories/astronomers-discover-humongous-structure-one-ninth-size-observable-universe?.com&
DJ Weideman "You won't beleive just how hugely, mind-bogglingly big space really is. You might think its a long way down to the shops, but thats just peanuts to space. Listen..." and then the guide tends to go one for a while like that...
+DJ Weideman Yes, as Frontier said there are over 400 billion star systems, and eventually we may be able to travel between Universes.
I really enjoy watching your uploads obsidian, you get the imagination rolling. Thanks for putting them together for our enjoyment. :)
Lee Robinson I'm glad you enjoy the videos, thanks! :)
Great video. My theory is that the Thargoids first encountered humans and we were no threat at all, so they chose to ignore and elude us (clearly their technology was far superior) but as we now push further and further across the galaxy, they will find us as a minor threat, or at least a nuisance and will start to push back against us
Oh god it's been 20 years since 1995.
I feel so old.
Ace Strife this comment was a year ago... think about that bro
@@Vye511 3 years now

we are closer to 2050 now than we are to 1990

First Contact with Thargoids in Elite Dangerous = 1/5/2017?
naaarrrr 5/1/17 :)
I am aware of that, it was said in jest, humour, a joke - no offence intended, it obviously didn't translate well
Andy Wilderness it seems in the United states you also have no sense of humour ;)
Thanks for another great video. I love all the screen captures of the old games. Keep up the great work!
I survived a witch-space encounter with the Thargoids a few times in the original Elite, so it was possible. In fact the main frustration was that you might survive the attack but then find that you didn't have enough fuel to complete your hyperspace jump onwards to the next system (when you got pulled out of witch-space, all the fuel that you would have used for your original jump was gone, so you would only have the remnants of your range left to make the next jump - and no nearby star to scoop fuel from). But on at least one occasion I did make it out alive, with enough fuel left for a jump, and a cargo hold full of scooped up Thargons to sell as Alien Items at the next port.
+Ben Wheeler yep I just commented on this too!
F*ck, I bet ya that the first player that interacts with them will be some idiot who will automatically shoot at them! There goes being friends with aliens!!!!
i fear so as well
I honestly want to shoot the shit out of them just to have an all out war to see what happens tbh.
After getting their asses kicked in previous games, do you really think they want to be friends with us ? I think they will come back with a vengeance !
lordpatrice OH NO NOT THE VEGANS.... oh wait you didnt say vegans...
Then you jump in, see a alien fleet in front of you & then...
SPLAT....you're dead immediately from plasma fire.
No doubt they'll be on the other side of the galaxy.
They need to reboot the power play shit because it's run flat.
Don't worry guys! With Will Smith and F-18s with a drunken pilot, we will singlehandedly defeat the Thargoids!
And a nerd programmer
I like the grave tone of voice you used here. Fitting!
Crap if the first player interactions determine their hostility then I must be the one to speak with them. Diplomacy must be used to ensure our safety and secure possible trade routes.
+DraynaRue Games It's very quite possible already too late. Players have been shooting up the alien barnacles like crazy! :D
+ObsidianAnt And i am one of these fool.... Please, "pardon" my greed, my envy, ... i killed us ALL!!!
+DraynaRue Games Nah...Just shoot em and take their cargo.
even if peace between the thargoids were made, the developer of the game himself stated it would be temporary. the thargoids sure as hell wouldn't let genocide slip by them. they would most deffinatly get revenge on us.
blackgem12 But the thing is how?? Humans in elite dangerous arent exactly super compact by the time they managed to get revenge evn if they made a vaccine for the virus we could make another. Also thargoid encounters are hard to survive he said but not impossible so im assuming you can shoot down a thargoid ship with significant armor and firepower. And you know how in elite dangerous they dont attack you they just scan you and then leave? I bet its because they recognize it was retalliation not just an act of agression even if extreme and they messed with the wrong spaceships.
Not all blocked areas are on the other side of the galaxy.
- Regor Sector (the nearest, but small)
- Hyponia Sector
- Sidgoir Sector (outter arm)
- Bovomit Sector (outter arm)
- Dryman Sector
- Froadik Sector
- Praei1 to 6 (opposite side of the galaxy)
- Bleia1 to 5 (opposite side of the galaxy)
Nic0maK It's interesting just how many blocked areas there are out there. Looking forward to seeing what content they will contain.
That's the bigger ones, but there are still a few other blocked systems, mostly around Nebula as well. And Polaris of course.^^. I'm not sure they know exactly what they'll put there yet themselves though that might have changed since.
There were survivors. I played this series and did survive them. I started to hunt these Thargoids for alien technology. - Amiga 500, Elite Frontier, to get into their space you needed to keep hitting the space button while in hyperspace to drop in the middle of deep space where you found the Thargoids.
You needed to fly as fast you can with cobra and shoot backwards to kill them. Their weapon range and speed did not match Cobra MK3 so it took some time to kill them.
Thargoids current known location is Andromeda. - War wiped them out from our galaxy, but human influence to Andromeda is left open. I do not know anyone who continued as far as I did hunting them. - However Thargoids will appear in our home galaxy soon. The messages in game given long time ago pointed out that Thargoids were from Andromeda.
In old game, you were able to change galaxy through a jump gate if you had enough money and you found a correct system.
Tony Peltonen Nah man you didn't need to run like Lennox Lewis from David Tua to beat the Thargoids! A mixture of tactics was more fun, specifically picking of Thargons until only the mothership remained and then after putting a little distance on him whilst pot shotting and keeping their sheilds low but not overheating your lasers, listening for the telltale sound of hull damage you simply turned an ran headlong at em pumping hard (keeping a mindful eye on your own front shields) then veering off if necessary to present another shield toward any incoming fire. Then when you had done sufficient damage the Thargoid would start running and you gained the upper hand/turned the tables, then it was bye bye Thargoid. Sometimes I had to dispatch up to 3 or 4 waves, including two motherships at once! Challenging but not impossible.
Eight years later everyone knows about thargoids, unless you are living under a rock. But i find it intresting to look to the past, and see What players thought before the first bang
Wow so mysterious I love stories like this. Also I planned out a trip to the other side of the galaxy it's going to take a long time but it's going to be an adventure.
Oh my god. The humans are leading a expedition out of human occupied space right now. CMDR Ob Ant, Can you tell the rest of the fleet of explorers to be on their best behavior with them? I want to trade with aliens, not get shot out of the sky by them! Plus, it would be really cheesy, but beautiful to see enemy's acting as friends again
The first player interactions will determine how they act...
So don't shoot em?
Doesn't really matter, because we all know that the first person who encounters them won't understand first-contact rules, so they'll shoot them
christian anderson too late, we have players attempting (and failing) to shoot the Thargoids.
Yeah, I saw
Idiots
Then again, they were just pulled out of hyperspace and scanned by an alien... thing
interdiction is never friendly. if we are going to war, its because of them.
The police occasionally interdict you.
I've been checked twice, but they never fired on me because I don't carry illegal cargo.
I have a question for you. Where the hell do you find the time to travel far and wide within ED and NMS and still find time to make all these videos ?
Not only that - but I also fit in a job, kids, teaching and hobbies. :)
I love your videos, what do you teach if I may ask?
You have great 'time management' skills. I have no kids or hobbies and there's still not enough hours in the day for me. I run a small contract cleaning business, keeps me busy, unsociable hours, although I now feel I can never complain again. Keep up the good work.
Interesting. Not sure if this has been posted here already but you encountered Thargoids (and the tharglets) on the BBC Micro version during mission #2 I think. Plus you could use the Pause and 'X' and control trick to trigger witch space on each jump, though i'm not sure you could leave it normally.. Unless it just used up the fuel you'd have used for your normal jump.. oh, and have an escape pod ready. Memory's hazy, did they destroy that too after you launched? Either way, you saw thargoids in-game, you read about them as the galactic navy were currently engaged with them and they might have even been mentioned in 'The Dark Wheel' (really need to d-load a PDF copy of that. Ahhh, memories)
4:25 that's a beautiful ship 😍😍
Has anyone ever tried to go to the bleia1 sector with an unknown artefact?
+Sebastian Salgado No , what happens?
The UA was decrypted by the way. The noises relate to a plot graph that draws whatever ship is looking at it. David Braben confirmed, check the forums for details.
If players have to determine the relationship with first contact, there is going to be a noob sidewinder that will ping the other ship and instantly be wrecked.
pliny vic I think Frontier keeps a record of everything happening in Elite. Who shot who with what piloting what.
If that as you say would happen, it could end up not in a war, but they would kill it, because that little bugger was very annoying.
It could be that during a period of time the Thargoid would observe the players, and if encountered depending on how many that are trigger happy or run aways, or curious explorers, not doing anything threatening and keep a distance, that could set the future of Elite: Dangerous.
PantsuMann
Of self destructing side winders leading them to vanish for years to come.
pliny vic If players have to determine that future in ED we are fked...they will shoot the Thargoid ship for sure and start a war...just human things...
Having this in my feed now that the Maelstroms are here is kinda trippy
there were other alien races in the original game as well as the thargoids, there were felanoid life forms and others that the player interacted with whilst trading.
If anyone is going to find a Thatgoid it'll be you ;)
Commander ChaosWulff It'd be pretty awesome to come back home in a Thargoid ship. :D
ObsidianAnt There was the opportunity to fly a Thargoid vessel in Elite: First Encounters if you ever did the Argents Quest mission line.
ObsidianAnt I'm loving the intro here Ant!
Tom Stephenson I did fly that. It was totally over powered and I'm sure there was a cargo capacity bug or something. Plus no one seemed to notice you were flying a Thargoid ship everywhere.
Thotgoid*
As a newcomer to the Elite Series with ED, i appreciate your video- i hope to see Thargoids in ED.. but not too close :)
It is fascinating how far we have come in elite dangerous, how far we have accomplished. Thargoid Titan Hadad is dead, we are pushing for the next titan. Glory to mankind. o7 Cmdrs.
I would love to see the aliens having their own distinct style in the way they build their ships and stations.
From their description they sound like space insects. Gives me Starship Troopers vibes.
Really enjoying your videos. I'm new to this game
Where are the thargoids ? You may find them around Maia, or so I heard. Xp
As a nub to Elite, whenever I try to learn about the lore, I get this feeling that there's a disconnect between the player pilots and past events in the galaxy. Almost like the pilots are just strangers that just arrived in this galaxy. Many different huge events that happened in the Elite universe that involved humans, in human space, led by human governments, under the control of a human super power, somehow get completely lost and have to be rediscovered by the pilots.
For example, the Thargoids and the incidents that involve them in past games. They were almost destroyed by a virus that a secretive shady faction in a human government and saved by a different faction. But everyone that talks about the Thargoids in the Elite: Dangerous game or books related to the game act as if the Thargoids are this mysterious unknown species that no one encountered before. Humanity (or at least part of it) must've known enough about them to create a virus to almost wipe them out. They must've known a great deal about them as a species to be able to save them and ally with them. As far as I understand, the war with the Thargoids wasn't a secret at all. Why do people act like the Thargoids are these super mysterious aliens that just showed up for the first time? Do people in the future no longer keep a detailed history of events that transpire in the galaxy?
Once I found a destroyed ship remains with a "black box" (beacon with confedential data) with a message with that kind of text: "Hyperspace routes ploting complete. Detected unidetified vessel". Idk, probably that refers to an alien race who attacked the ship. Also, about 2 weeks ago, unknown individual asked me to go to given coordinates on specific planet in specific system, find a crash site and extract valuable data from ship remains. What I found there? 2 Conda and 2 Type-9 in the ground. 1 Conda had a "still working computer" and i could extract some info from it. The message was next "Mayday, mayday, mayday! Something pulled us from the hyperspace! We're at... where the hell are we?" end of message. I really do hope all this is alien hand work. I made a screenshot of 1st message after scanning beacon but not the other ones.. There are some interesting stuff you can find in space sometimes..
Brilliant video. I had no idea there were as many closed off systems as that. I had heard rumors of the odd system here and there, but this sounds like a whole civilization. Frontier said they aren't winging things as they go, but the game is actually very well planned. I suspect this is another huge expansion in a year or two.
Good day to you, Sir. Tell me please, where did you get these words of Braben - "...how the first player interaction deal with a Thargoids may determinate wheather we have a peacefull relationship with them, or..."? Is this quote accurate?
Interesting. I expect it will be some time before we see more of the Thargoids, since there is a whole bunch of things that seems to have higher priority for Frontier. On the other side CQC was also unexpected, when it came up. :D
CptHer well, FD said that Thargoids themselves are long term project, however they will keep add hints and secrets to the game for people to discover.
I'd love to see alien ships and trading stations. That artifact has a fascinating design, and I'd like to see what a ship made by those aliens looks like.
Ryan Rod I like that they've kept the aliens an enigmatic mystery though. People fear what they can't see and to reveal too much about them would just ruin the tension that they build.
Did anyone ever try taking Unknown items with them and see if it unlocked access to any of these "unknown permit" systems?
Another great video, keep them coming.
Col sector 70, near Maia where the weird stuff happened and entire "bubble" is permit locked
It'd be cool if stations were generated at discovered stars but a very small chance as there are lots
This video aged beautifully because just a few hours ago a massive star shaped “star” emerged from thargoid space and is moving at 200ls into the bubble as I type this. Prepare for war.
The Thargoids are currently not in the game. Ether their stars are locked from access or players have been to their stars, just the devs just didn't say where.
IDK why but the last picture of the aliens he said just wanna help us made me laugh.
Great video, what GPU do you use?
jedslather I use a GTX 980.
Peaceful or Warlike.. You know as soon as some sees them, they will open fire.
LMAO Fantastic ! mate u aint no David Attenborough or Iain Glen, but you nailed it sir.
really informative, who knows what the future will hold?
Nice video as usual mate...Darn.It feels like there are real aliens in our space.(the way you explain it)
What happens if you try to access a system without permit?
You can't, it won't let you select it so your can't warp there.
right, first encounter determines the future relations. so whatever FD decides to do. if no player attacks them FD will be sure an NPC does
I know where the Thargoids are! They're about six expansions (or $300) away! Keep pumping money into this game, they'll get here!
I just bought this game and am waiting for the rift to arrive with a hOTAS Seitek in the begining of next year, It was a bargain on Steam right now. Dude you are awesome!!! I felt like I was in Star Trek One day we will be able to land on the planets and everything started in our period of life, maybe we are living inside Elite waiting for the Thargoids to find us, fuck now I am scared! lol 1 sub!
With all those permit-locked systems, it makes me curious what would happen if someone without a permit just went in Supercruise instead of a proper jump.
The system would not lode
Would be cool if, because these locations are so far, are like the wild west of space, like the americas, early days of human civilization or not even there yet... Maybe, we weren't the first to try to settle these stars tho...?
what was that 1 frame about 1.5 seconds in? are those... letters? is that a star?
Hello from patch 2.4 -- THEY'RE HERE!!!
Thargoids origin are in HIP 11767 there is Polaris A or Polar Star. :)
The Thargoids weren't the only alien race in the original Elite, there were thousands of them, but really thats because they were proceedurally generated like most of the star systems you visited back then.
I survived one instance back in the day, had enough fuel left to hyperspace out after surviving an attack by a mothership and her babies, 4 to be exact. They went dormant once I shot the momma to death, but I had military lasers then and she was still hard to kill.
I am now officially an accessory to the end of humanity , I took a load of 500 meta-alloys that I mined back into inhabited space.
They need to spread them out more and more
i watch this and think of when the federation queen ship went missing totaly, it makes me wonder if the thargoids did it...
+Jack Cobalt you're playing this game WAY too much
hmmm...... CG with the reward or possibility of finding Thargoid contacts?
haha that intro I thought u was about to say, "hi gals and girls, i'm obsidianant and i'm here to ask and answer one simple question WTF is ...." Totalbiscuit, ive watched you too much.
Let's hope that whoever is fortunate (or unfortunate depending on their disposition towards humans) to run into them first dosn't do anything to annoy them.
Mr. CMDR ObsidianAnt...Are there religions or cults in the Elite Dangerous' universe?
Well....now they are here.
why is it when ever i go and jump into a new space system and it's a white dwarf i always get scared panic then bail and get scared of playing the game i need help
Well now the thargoids are confirmed in ED, so... Yay!
love this need more like it
The Question is are we alone? or is there Life somewhere in the Universe?
0:33 ayy lmao
Hi there, can i just ask what GPU you are using, i just bough an msi R9 390X which i think is AMD's best card other than fury x, but i get low fps in supercruise and mouse lag on the galaxy map and menu's, i run in 4k though but still get SC lag in 1080p so i expect i get mouse lag in 1080p as well :-( your cursor looks pretty smooth so wanted to know your pc specs if you don't mind, hope they fix this for me cos it puts me off spending more money on horizons
***** I am using a GTX 780 running at 2560x1080. Cursor works without any problems. The game has had a lot of stuttering issues for some people since beta. They are still struggling to fully fix it.
***** check you monitor/TV... at 4k the latency can be horrendous for certain models
also this game is not AMD friendly. it is built on the nVidia development platform. just as certain games developed on AMD gaming platform are not friendly to nVidia cards. it is just the way the two companies piss at each other but we the consumer stand in the middle and get wet.
nah it is AMD friendly it was just the windows 10 drivers for the 390x that were screwed, went back to 8.1 and 15.6 drivers and now no lag at all my 4k monitor is 60 hz and 1ms response time so now get 60 fps everywhere in 4k ultra so afraid you are wrong ;-)
Maybe the Thargoids will be a playable race/faction!
found them!
Yikes! It's full of stars. All the light in the sky at night...are stars. So very many... : o
Hey do you have a voice pack in this game?
Am also surprised SC fans shit on ED. This game is already far superior in terms of scope. Fantastic!
The thargoids are probably asking the same thing.
How the hell did someone manage to find these planets with unknown permits?
We had to ask this question. We had to know. Now half our shit is broken and I'm up to my neck in Scouts let alone the bigger variants
I've never played this game, is it any good?
I also wonder what happened to all the indigenous, non space-faring life forms that existed within Alliance Space.....back in the original Elite.
Marcus Hicks A lot of them were killed by humanity. :(
5:42 Why would the Thargoids use Morse code? Was Samuel F. B. Morse a Thargoid?
Sooo , Don't poke them with a stick you say ... But I wannnaa!
I guess now you have your answer.
I hope it's really far away and the Feds, empire and the alliance make a journey across the galaxy and fight these monsters.
when we look back at this video at the forefront of the return of the Thargoids
Regor sector. Not too far from human space. All sealed off. Type Regor into the game object search it will take you there.
I actually never heard of any of the games till Elite Dangerous. I had a lot of lore to catch up on. Were the games just not popular in the US?
Well anyway, I have a route running me to that side of the galaxy. I am only half way there though. Taking a boring looking route, so no one else has been out here, ha. Lots of first scans for me. If I find anything Thargoid related, I will defiantly mention it.
Jesse Sisolack I think the first Elite games were more of a think in the UK. :)
The closer you get to the center of the galaxy the more unique undiscovered places you will find.
ObsidianAnt I am actually not scheduled to go though the center of the galaxy. Maybe another trip. I am scheduled to do a loop around the backside of the galaxy. I will have to visit the center someday just for a sight seeing tour.
great video mate, informative and exciting!! am hoping for something to make the universe a little less uniform, aliens would be awesome, but yeah just some more diversity would be a start!! Still love the game though
tomcooksound I suspect the game will start being expanded upon very soon now. ;)
Wednesday!!! What will the announcement be!!!
im doing my best to figure out the sounds but im just finding alien language (symbols) and a sort of Morse code / co-ordinates . 35433 (6/5) not sure :/ can anyone point me to the best forums ?
Lol encounters with the Thargoids were rarely survivable were they? I used to regularly get pulled into witchspace....(not some other system....not sure were yo got that from) by the Thargoids. Who would attack with their Mothership and hordes of Thargons (drones) whilst I was waiting for my hyperdrive to repair. But I pretty much kicked their collective butts nearly all the time.
if you target Polaris (The North Star) and also the rumored origin of thargoid life, you here very aerie sounds, alien almost.
well, Thargoids are here...
