- The third episode in my lore of Elite series, covers the history of the Federation.
This is an ongoing series that will cover many aspects of the Elite universe. Previous parts include the history of the Alliance, and The Empire. In future episodes I will take a look at the Powers behind Powerplay.

I love how all these awesome events are taking place within the milky way. Meanwhile I'm just delivering goods from one station to the other. And that's what I love about elite dangerous you are not the center of attention or some long Lost hero. you're just a guy or a girl flying around in a ship doing whatever you need to do to get by.
That’s what I love about it to, no one is the hero of the story no one is better than anyone else we’re all just space travellers, making our way through the galaxy
Kinda sucks because they use that as an excuse to not have any kind of story.

Frontier should hire you to do some narration for the game. Even just a little narration in ED would do it wonders.

There's a station called Obsidian Orbital in Maia and he does the announcement in the station.

So what i don't understand is that there is no introductory narration when you login to elite dangerous for the first time, like in the form of a graphic novel, those who have played the witcher 3 know what im talking about.
I really don't understand that this is not in the game. I would do SOOOO MUCH to make you feel like you're really in a world that was there before you, with a history, of which you now are part of.
And for those who don't care about this stuff you could always just skip those animations. Such a missed opportunity i find it to be almost criminally negligible.
panthamor I kind of enjoy the learning curve to Elite Dangerous where you're quite literally thrown into the world as a fresh commander. I like the fact that you're forced to research the lore as an individual.
I dig on the game and play regularly, but while I like that you're 'thrown into a world', I would have greatly enjoyed a more direct presentation of the lore and factions in a dedicated introduction.
I didn't know much about the detailed lore until I found these videos. They're fascinating in both content and presentation, having helped so much in my enjoyment of the game and what I do.
Strangely, no one remembers any details of the second hundred years of the 21st century. It is almost as if it ended after that first hundred.
All kidding aside, great to see you doing more Elite lore videos, OA. Keep them coming.

Andrew Grey he was making fun of a quote from the video. the narrator said "the first hundred years of the 21st century." it was this strange phrase in the video that inspire the original post. considering this context, the joke is entirely accurate.
Elite lore: civilian station built in 2020
2021: can’t even leave your house to see friends.
2021: People don't beleive effective vaccines exist, that democracy matters or climate change is a big deal.

Yeah, yeah. Not many Imps round Carpaka during that incident, and those that showed up got boiled. I've noticed Imps have a tendency to log off when their hull get low, though.
nice video, Just jumped into Elite:Dangerous this week and was very curious to the back story/lore and how humans came to be all over space, what are these factions story etc. I just had so many questions when Elite dropped me into the cockpit and you are clearing them up. Thank you.

As always, great video, but i think this one should have preceded the empire and alliance ones... Federation was the first after all. The bedrock...

2040 for wwIII is actually quite common. Many games, books, and other types of media peg wwIII around that time. Also a time where resources are running short. I'd just like to point that out. :)

This likely won't happen unless we have a major revolution in Physics the physics of the 19th and 20th century will not cut it.

One of the surprises I have found on RUclips was this came up in my feed. Thanks. The story of the Fed is frighteningly similar to our history shows the depth of the game perhaps FDev are aliens who are steering the human race

Well done, indeed. I was trying to find a good source of Elite lore and you've managed to summarize it all in a very nice package, complete with highly effective "B-roll." I feel somewhat foolish, having been a Wing Commander fan almost from the beginning, and not even hearing of the Elite games until the late '90's. I think I can say I'm almost caught up on the lore now.
Playing ED has also re-awakened my interest in Astronomy and it's been fun to dip my toes back in the Great Void. Your videos have been a fun part of that process. Now I just need to get back in the game and start saving my credits for that Diamondback Explorer. I've yet to see Barnard's Loop up close. Thanks for keeping that "sense of wonder."
DJ Weideman Thanks DJ Weideman, it's always nice to hear from you! I'm also a lover of the stars and the night sky and am very keen to one day start taking a look with a telescope. A bit too much light pollution around this area though unfortunately.
ObsidianAnt We have the same issues with visibility where I live, although there are several places not far from me, where it's still possible to view the night sky. I can recall getting a telescope when I was 9 or 10, when I was obsessed with the Space Program(our parents used to wake us up at 3AM to watch the Apollo launches) and was able to look at part of the Milky Way. I wish I lived somewhere where I could see that now; I'm considering traveling to Colorado partly for that reason.
When I was in the Navy, I got a book of star charts and at night, when we weren't at flight ops, you could stand out on the deck and look at several stars and planets quite easily. The Southern Hemisphere has views from the ocean that are spectacular.
DJ Weideman I have always wondered what the sky looks like on a clear night from the deck of a ship. Something I have wanted to see for myself.
There's not many places left in England where we can get a good view of the sky. Some of the areas in Whales are quite good. Northern Scotland should also be good, although I haven't been there. It really is a shame what we are losing, and very few people are aware of it. It's very difficult to truly appreciate the night sky until we see it from a location that has hundreds upon hundreds of stars.
I'd be willing to travel to set to see a good night sky. :)

Oh my god, I wish I had seen this video in 2015 when I started playing, I didn't really find any interest in the game back then, having the lore presented the way you did would have been a game changer for me.

The history is very interesting, and the narration is awesome. I don't know that such a rapid recovery from WWIII makes any sense, since most life would be annihilated by a nuclear holocaust. If it did not descend into the use of nukes, I guess it would be possible.
So please make more lore videos.... A LOT MORE. ive been killing for someone to make videos about the lore on elite.

This is actually false information. He was elected when the last president dissapeard. He also faced and passed a Vote of No Confidence in 3305

I do love your videos. Very informative, balanced and interesting. However I do have one criticism: I wish the video would be more applicable to what you are talking about. Your videos tend to be you talking over various scenes from Elite Dangerous on the screen, which while very pretty, usually have nothing to do with what you are speaking of. It might as well be an audio podcast that way.
For instance, when talking about Mars, why not show in-game scenes of Mars? When talking about the Moon, why not show shots of the Moon? That way the audio and video would be much more connected, and people who aren't familiar with Elite Dangerous would actually get an idea of what the things you are talking about look like.
It's not a big deal, just something to consider. Please keep making your otherwise very excellent videos! :-)

I actually don't know where this "unelected" information came from. He was voted in when the previous president, Jasmina Halsey disappeared from Starship One. He also faced and passed the automatic Vote of No Confidence in June 3305. So no, I am afraid this is "unelected" claim is not true.

Being a Minarchist Libertarian, I still think the Alliance is the place for me. I find it interesting that all the factions were started with good intentions. I suppose that is rather realistic. Humans often do things for good intentions, even though it does not always work out like that in the end.
I just got back from my month long exploration trip. Only made 15 million, ha. I guess picking the less traveled boring route was not as profitable as I hopped. Well too bad. At least I got to see some interesting sights.
