I understand what you are experiencing Alan with people vanishing when you mention cancer. I have experienced similar too when diagnosed with prostate cancer. it is a strange thing but a nurse told me it is quite well known and is called cancer ghosting. Personally I have found by far the most family and friends to be really helpful which I greatly appreciate. There has been a few though who I thought would have been there to talk to etc that just vanished be it in person or Facebook etc. I just wanted to let you know it is not just you it seems to be quite a common thing. All the very best to you in keeping pushing back your prostate cancer, every day that you do science advances another day too. Thank you for your videos.
Always look forward to this Alan. Please keep them coming, they give me strength and entertainment. Your experiences are so familiar and I can relate to them. People may ghost you but Rupert never will. Dogs are always there for us.
I sympathise strongly with you. had similar experiences after I got a double diagnosis of prostate and kidney cancer in 2016. It was a very low and frightening time for me. Naturally I turned to family and friends for support. One close old friend had lost his wife to cancer and I was there for him. So when I phoned him, I was not prepared for his response. He was by now in a new relationship with a woman I hadn't yet met and he told me she didn't like to talk about health issues. I pointed out that I was talking to him and I didn't even know her yet. There was a long moment's silence. Then he put the phone down and we've never spoken since. That hurt me very deeply and the sense of abandonment remained with me for a long time afterwards.
Everyone reacts differently to a cancer diagnosis: shock, devastated, determined, withdrawn, embarrassed so unless you know the person you do not want to offend and it may seem like they’re running away because they do not want to say something wrong. Embrace those that want to help and do to someone what you would like done to them if they’re in the same situation as you. Good luck and stay well.
Hi Alan, you are doing well. I've got stage 4 advanced Prostate with tumor on L1 back bone and right lymph nodes. I've had it for 2 years now. I'm on hormone therapy after lots of radiation. .y pas is only 0.05
