      Jacking up the rent for a Coliseum extension was Oakland's final mistake if they had any chance of keeping the A's. It gave Fisher and MLB the final excuse to leave. If the rent had been reasonable MLB would been forced to stay in a MLB park rather than go to a triple A park. A lot can happen in 3 years Oakland could have been in a good position to be an option.

    • @thetouchback
      @thetouchback  4 месяца назад +8

      The rent was reasonable. Oakland couldn't compete with free. Fisher told Ranadive he was going to Salt Lake City or Vegas as a negotiating ploy. Ranadive, not wanting to lose NBC Sports California, gave him Sacramento for free, so his Kings TV contract remained intact.

      @@thetouchback I have to disagree: The A's had been paying 1.25 million a season rent. They offered to increase their rent to 17 million for two years 8.5 million per season.
      Oakland's offer is below:
      Oakland, now facing the possibility of losing the team sooner than expected countered with an offer, upping the current $1.25 million a year lease amount to a five year contract with three year opt out clause for a total of $97 million. In addition, the team would have to either leave behind the team name, colors and branding when they move, get MLB assurances of the city getting an expansion team, or the A’s selling the team to a local owner. Oakland Chief of Staff Leigh Hanson has said that the $97 million “extension fee” charged would help Oakland’s current $170 million general fund deficit. The request to leave behind the team colors and branding pulse MLB's assurance of granting Oakland an expansion are beyond the A's control

    Since the league's owners don't like it when they don't get their money, and John Fisher doing John Fisher things will endure that that's what happens, I think they will force him to sell and the team will move to some city we aren't yet talking about, like Nashville or Salt Lake City.

    The A's belong in Philadelphia. It is where they started. Many older Philadelphians (80+) are still fiercely loyal to the A's. Their children and grandchildren, while they may not be fans of the A's per say, the A's hold a special place in their hearts because of their fathers and grandfather's love of the A's. You can perhaps move Tampa out west...even to Oakland. Remember the A's only spent two more years in Oakland than Philadlephia. Imagine the match ups upon joining the AL East. The Yankees, the Red Sox, the Oriels and Blue Jays. With the exception of the Blue Jays, those are all old teams with lots of history like the A's. They did the same thing to Philadelphia 70 years ago leaving fans heartbroken. A new ballpark in North Philadelphia could help revitalize the neighborhood. It would help the city reconnect with it's history. There is a petition on change org you can sign if you are interested. Also I am not a "bot" or being paid for this I simply want to bring the A's back to Philly where they belong.

      My dad was born and raised in Philadelphia, he grew up with the A's and was a lifelong fan. Many story's about Connie Mack's Athletics! When they came out here in the 1960's they became our family's default team. Many happy trips from Sacramento to Oakland with family and friends over the years to enjoy the games. If they are going to leave Northern California I would be OK if they ended up back in Philly. I would miss the opportunity to see them in person but I would still be a fan unlike some of the other some of the other potential landing spots. Might even give me the excuse to visit the relatives back there more often!

      Perhaps we should consider moving the Baltimore Orioles back to St. Louis (they were previously the St. Louis Browns), and the Atlanta Braves back to Boston. Also, the Dodgers and Giants back to New York City, so NYC will have four teams.

    • @tom198282
      @tom198282 4 месяца назад

      @@HighpointerGeocacher Sure we can consider all of that. Why not? I definitely think New York could really support a third team better than most cities support a first team. I think Boston can support a 2nd team better than most cities support a first team. Philly DEFINITELY can. But it would have to be the A's. Philadelphians are fiercely loyal Putting all that aside the fact remains the A's ARE moving, the other teams are not. There is an excessive demand for baseball (sports in general) in Philadelphia. The A's would be accepted because of their history. Also the A's were CLEARLY the better team, and it was very shady how they moved instead of the Phils. The Phils have almost objectively speaking been the worst MLB franchise. In those other instances the Yanks and Cardinals were clearly better, the A's move made little sense. Their move back to Philly, accompanied by a Tampa move to Vegas or even Oakland makes the most sense. Tampa does not seem to care, last year with the lowest playoff attendance since 1919. This would seem to be the move that makes the most sense.

      I'm serious. I'm saying this as someone who went to A's games at the Coliseum this year and last year, and had a fine time. It's not like 2013 when the sewage was backing up.
      I went to the Coliseum, sat down in a seat (after wiping cobwebs off of it), and watched a game happen with no mishaps. I don't really need much else.

    Cause compared to Sacramento, Reno is quite lame

      You’ve got to be kidding me 🤣🤣🤣
      Reno is no utopian treasure by any means, but Sacramento is one of the smelliest armpits in the country. There is not one single advantage that Sacramento has over Reno, ESPECIALLY when it comes to baseball.

      @PTANV-x2g Sacramento is a bigger media market and the greater Sacramento area supports their teams a lot better. 2 of the biggest key factors. Plus Sutter Health Park has over 5,000 more seats that Fisher can sell to make money

      Sacramento's media market is 20th in the country vs Reno's 102 biggest media market.

      The Rivers Cats only get a few hundred people per game over the Aces these days. Those extra seats at Sutter Health Park are mostly just a giant grass hill. Also, media market is irrelevant in this discussion.

      @@thetouchback They still have a bigger capacity stadium for the MLB to play in. We have seen tons of people want season tickets for the A's. While they're still hill seats, there was talks about turning that into actual seats in the near future

    No body's cares about Reno. Sacramento wi be better than Oakland ever was just look at the way the fans treated the stadium after the last game. A fans don't deserve the a's
