This is my all-time favourite work of Bach`s Double Violin Concerto and this is the best ever recording for me and good performances from David and Igor Oistrakh and Sir Eugene Goossens conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and I heard this complete work, when I was 9 years old and I like it so much.
Самое лучшее исполнение этого произведения,и вряд ли возможно лучше исполнить.Какое звучание,какие чувства,какое голосведение,какой диалог скрипок и оркестра!!!НЕВЕРОЯТНО!!!!!
My favourite piece of music with father and son playing as one in perfect harmony. I have not heard any other duo come close to matching this performance. My most treasured LP. Thanks for putting it up on RUclips.
I had this recording years ago and later bought a cd of it. Then put it onto a tablet I had with me in Paris. One night, with earphones, I listened to the adagio while watching the Seine flow by and looking up at the ile de la Cité and Notre Dame. This combination was as close to heavenly as one could imagine!
De pie señores, es Johann Sebastian Bach, el padre de la música. Esta es una obra caída del cielo, La perfección desde la primera hasta la última nota. No le falta ni le sobra nada, simplemente perfecta.
This exact piece with David and Igor was my "first"....my first "aha!" moment of understanding what Bach's music was trying to communicate. I wore out so many copies of this exact recording when I was in high school....I may still have this recording if I took the time to go through all the old records...David, God bless you for sharing this masterpiece in its original form....seems none other will do.
Wish I had the photo of me listening to it in the early 70's when my mother used her Hassleblaud to photograph me listening to David and Igor in ecstasy. She did all the darkroom as well. Beautiful photograph that explains this piece of music perfectly!
Hi Mari, yes, I let David know that I sent him the photo. I sent the photo to him in message on FB...he would enjoy that and the he knows the meaning of the photo.
Echt fantastische Aufführung dieses perfekt konstruierten Doppelkonzerts mit seidigen und perfekt synchronisierten Töne zweier Violinen. Die gut kontrollierte Orchesterbegleitung ist auch bemerkenswert.
Klemperer's Beethoven Symphonies are astonishing for masterful control he has of spirit, sound, & form, at slower tempi. His Eroica recording, 1st movement (the 1st version I heard, gratefully) for EMI Angel, & his 9th are stellar in that regard. But his Bach Brandenburgs are especially noteworthy: the 3rd, leading the Philharmonia again, have a control & force that are just the summit of Bach interpretation. Most all musicians can't hang with slower tempi on Bach, because all the SEAMS show!
Andrew I am delightfully inspired by this piece. I love Bach as you well know. Hey, and I heard and saw Louis Armstrong playing with his band in Uganda for the Queen Mother in 1959. Quite a bizarre event under the stars in Kampla with Dr. Anthony Lipton.
I posted elsewhere, in reply to a Bach upload (Bach is always uploading, especially to celestial regions), that most musicians, especially today, cannot play Bach well at a slower tempo. They probably shouldn't try, at any tempo, as I find there is a deluge of bad Bach recordings, and much of the badness comes through rushing. Klemperer was the antidote to that! Note that he wasn't "slow" but simply had the masterful control to preserve the architecture's form without dragging the piece.
Thanks for this David. I've seen them in at least 2 other videos of this concerto, David plays 2nd violin in them. Wondering if here too. This is the version I like the most.

This recording is a classic, a classic recording of a great concerto.
