  • I haven't posted a classical piece in a while butI personally like this piece.Pavane pour une infante défunte is the real name of the piece and Ravel's goal was to evoke a Spanish princess from the Renaissance.I personally find this piece very sad. • @YourPerfectDoom
      @YourPerfectDoom 5 лет назад +6

      Try moving your right hand in a semi-circular motion to help with reach. Luckily here you don't need to play all the keys at once so I think it's supposed to be done with your right hand like this ;)

    It has good sound but the tempo is wrong: / This piece is played extremely slowly. The Pavana presents harmonies, nostalgic expression and a slightly remote and beautiful melody. Listen to it in playback speed 0.75 , still enjoy it

    • @woof-barkbark
      @woof-barkbark 5 лет назад

    • @isaacgreenwood4230

      Ravel actually preferred it played at a brisker pace than most play it at. You should take a look at his own performance of it.

    • @DaGhost141
      @DaGhost141 3 года назад +1

      Ravel himself played it roughly at that tempo or faster. The thing is, most people think the piece is meant to be sad because of the title, while Ravel didn't chose the title because of a deeper meaning but rather because it "sounded" nice. There is this blog-post (sadly in german) which also mentions this. Maybe google-translate helps: www.henle.de/blog/de/2015/08/31/ab-welchem-tempo-%E2%80%9Estirbt%E2%80%9C-ravels-%E2%80%9Epavane%E2%80%9C/

    I love this piece but I hate a lot of the performances of it. The first three videos I've looked at, the performer decided that the sheet music didn't matter in the beginning and they'd just play it however they wanted. There are very clearly straight eigth notes in the beginning and these people are trying to turn it into some type of swing rhythm. The idea of the song is to mourn the death of a dead princess. Broken rhythms don't really sound sad...

    • @XPSChaos
      @XPSChaos 7 лет назад +23

      That is not at all the idea behind this piece. Ravel described the piece as "an evocation of a pavane that a little princess [infanta] might, in former times, have danced at the Spanish court".
      When asked by the composer-conductor Manoah Leide-Tedesco how he arrived at the title Pavane pour une infante défunte, Ravel smiled coyly and replied, "Do not be surprised, that title has nothing to do with the composition. I simply liked the sound of those words and I put them there, c'est tout"
      This piece (not song) has nothing to do with a dead princess.

    • @LianaJaden
      @LianaJaden 5 лет назад +1

      SlowBurn I wrote a whole research paper on this exact piece and the composer and can 100% back this up. This has nothing to do with an actual dead princess.

    • @mwhite6522
      @mwhite6522 5 лет назад

      It's a tongue-twister in French, which may be why Ravel chose the title.

      Hey, I'm a bit late to the pary but here's Ravel playing his own composition. Maybe that'll settle the argument. ruclips.net/video/eGybwV3U9W8/видео.html
