Leveler and Guardians were albums I was completely weirded out for a while, but as time went on and I kept listening they quickly rose to the top. I don't know how they do it, but this band ALWAYS outdo themselves, and after Leveler I learned to never doubt them again.
For me, the original Leveler album sound is much better than the re-done version. Edit: Just realized when he said "hit the like button" the like and dislike button lit up, every time I replayed that line it did the same thing. Pretty cool
I agree that the three S tier albums are absolute peak of ABRs songwriting ability, I have yet to check out the new one, but Constellations will forever be in my heart, one of the most important albums in my life and Crusades almost tearing me up every time, I just love this band
@@MetalTrenches Yeah that’s true, but they are still quite popular for a Metal Band, but I agree they deserve way more recognition, maybe it has to do with them not doing the catchy clean Choruses and opting for the almost only screams approach which generally appeals to less people, however I find their vocal hooks to be just as if not more catchy than a lot of other bands‘ clean ones. Backed up by their outstanding, fantastic, amazing, legendary instrumentation they are one of my favorite bands, also got to see them live with Bury Tomorrow (another awesome Metalcore Band I really love) and it was just breathtaking (they started with their chop suey cover by transitioning out of the original playing) Anyways, Sorry for the long comment 😅
Bro this band is a master of closing tracks, they're always so emotional, Redemption, The Seventh Trumpet, damn, Carbon Copy hits hard, Three Fountains..... I love them
I really love this band, but sometimes I find it hard to remember the songs and seperate them apart from each other. Standing in the storm is in my top 20 songs ever.
Found in far away places is exactly the right amount of evolution imo. Their previous albums could be accused of sounding a little similar to each other and I definitely think all their albums after sound a little too similar, but FIFAP is just the right amount of different. Got me back into the band
I have so much respect and admiration for this band. They're not as easy for "go to" metalcore like Killswitch Engage but every time I'm in the mood for them, I end listening non-stop for weeks. There's so much stuff going on but they're still metalcore at heart. Wholeheartedly agree with your rankings too. FIFAP is definitely their best album and Death Below is another statement album. Even Thrill Seeker, which pales is comparison to every other album since then, has all the nostalgia going for it. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard Little Suburbia. Amazing band. Great video as always.
Honestly this band ages so well. They keep getting better and better. I would say there newest album is an A tier. I can't wait to see them live next month 🤙
I've been listening to ABR since the Surburbia in ruins days.. ABR is one of my favorite Metalcore bands. I still have their Phantom album I bought in 2017 on my lunch break when I worked at Home Depot. I worked by a Best Buy back then, I can't wait to hear the album when I have the time, the first song on the album gave me Silent Planet vibes..
ABR has been a staple with me since 2005. I’ve practically grown up with them. These guys have put out a lot of quality work over the years. Messengers and Found in Far Away Places are my personal favorites. Looking forward to listening to the new album. Great video!
I loved the video as a huge ABR fan and also for the great remarks made about these wonderful masterpieces I enjoy up to this day. The new album totally rocks and is having its own atmosphere as well. I really hope this perfect streak continues for many more years to come.
I've never really gotten into the melodic metalcore of the 2000s because I made the jump from mid 2010s djent in Architects directly to early 2000s metallic hardcore in Zao and then jump changed gears complete to melodeath, completely missing a full era other than maybe an album here and there (lik Deliver Us) but I've got to say, every single that I've heard from ABR makes me want to take a deep dive so maybe I'll start with Death Below and go back.
I'm doing that now. I grew up listening to bodom, in flames, at the gates that kinda melodeath. August burns red are legit. I've yet to find anyone as good in their genre but I'm still looking
You’re probably the first person I’ve seen to put Rescue & Restore over the likes of Constellations and Messengers. Honestly, I totally understand. I personally preferred Constellations anymore, but Spirit Breaker, Beauty and Tragedy, and Fault Line helped me through some really tough times. That album is the reason I love the band.
Love this band been listening to them since high school. Composure was the song that got me into them. They just get better and better. Leveler and rescue and restore got me through high school and college.
S Tier- Messengers, constellations, rescue and restore, found in far away places, phantom anthem. A Tier- Guardians, death below. B Tier- leveller, thrillseeker.
Love these guys. Seen them live several times. Super consistent band. I know it's an unpopular opinion but I've always wished they would use clean vocals more often. Not every song or anything like that but there are a lot of songs that I really feel it would add to but 🤷🏻 just my two cents. Still love them regardless.
Thrillseeker for me is still number 1. I know this in an unpopular opinion with their huge discography at this point. I remember first hearing this album and it completely blowing my mind. It’s what sparked my metal obsession. So many iconic songs for them though like Your suburbia, seventh trumpet, barbarian, and so on. To me this album is amazing back to front. Some say it didn’t age well, and I seriously just don’t understand that. The rawness of it is what sets it apart. I’m also 36 now and have been listening from the very beginning which also may play a part in this but yeah. Bums me out that this album seems to always be getting put on the bottom.
Guardians came out at the right time for me. I was just getting back into Metal and the record really spoke to me. I love 'Ties that Bind', it is my favorite song of theirs.
Who've thought I would discover this band through a "Top 10 Christian Metal Breakdown" video 15 years ago and eventually became one of my most favorite Metalcore bands of all time. To me, the albums Messengers, Constellations, Found In Far Away Places & Guardians are pretty much their best works. Death Below is most definitely their darkest album to date as it gives me that Messengers vibe, which I honestly can't seem to lay a finger on it.
Damn, I guess I missed out a lot when it comes to this band. I'll definitely check them out more. I just heard "The Cleansing" from their new record and it slays.
Not a big fan of metalcore, but alongside Bleeding Through, Heaven Shall Burn, Nearea and Eighteen Visions, they might just be one of the last true great ones of this subgenres.
Im definitely gonna listen to ABRs discography soon. Couple days ago I finally listened to In Far Away Places and I loved it a lot, you could probably see in the discord my reactions, was worried of their being like 1 dud on it, but no, its all great. Im definitely checking the rest out soon, just that got other stuff been needing to finish up before I do. Another thing too I liked was that they didn't seem like other metalcore artists people talk about when they say all just sound the same, i thought they sounded unique to me, though then again am brand new. Anyway thanks for the tier list and hope to talk and watch more videos of yours to keep expanding my tastes.
I have basically the same tier list as you. I'm still thinking about Death Below but I liked it better than Guardian so that's a good sign haha. In general, I also think that Rescue & Restore (a bit underrated), Far Away Places... and Phantom Anthem are the true peak of ABR.
Very pleased with the album. They chose the singles well in that they avoided setting the album up for disappointment on released. While the singles were good I was getting a little worried about whet the other songs would be like.
I agree ABR has to be one of the most consistent bands (not just in metalcore but metal as a whole) and one of the very few bands that seem to be getting better with each release (I'd say BTBAM & Cult of Luna are the other examples that come to mind).
For me, Found in Far Away Places is too repetitive with it's instrumental breaks in the same places in each song. Each song in isolation is good, but together it makes for a boring album in my opinion (I would put it in B tier). Other than that I pretty much agree with your tier list.
This might blow your mind (it won't if it's been brought up already), but McMannes was NOT their original vocalist. That title goes to Jon Hershey, whom of which only appeared on the EP Looks Fragile After All.
Good ranking, in my very personal and subjective opinion: *S:* Found in Far Away Places *A:* Constellations, Rescue & Restore, Messengers, Phantom Anthem *B:* Leveler, Guardians, Death Below *C:* Thrill Seeker

Constellation is S tier, their best album and one of the most impressive, if not the best metalcore album ever. And I know hardcore fans agree with me.
I'd say my tier list is the same as yours other than Phantom. I didn't care for it. I'd say B tier. But I don't think it's wrong for it to be someone's S. But I do think they are a band that doesn't miss. They join a small number of metalcore bands that have been around this long that have such a solid discography where I don't ever skip tracks. But it does make me wonder how much longer they have until they decide to call it a career.
I loved this band until Rescue And restore because their music sounded samey up until this point, weirdlry You didnt choose those albums as S tiers. I got to go back and listen the rest of their catalogue again to see if My opinion changed
Thrill Seeker should be S tier if not for the lyrics alone. "what a bittersweet symphony life is, but I wouldn't have it any other way" Im sorry but Jake's lyrics are neanderthal compared to that one line.
Leveler is so underrated, arguably my favorite. A big thing I wanna say thats prob controversial is Carson Slovak becoming producer for them. IMO, his production is very boring and has made their albums sound pretty samey since FIFAP. You can even hear it in the remake of their Leveler album. Each of their earlier albums have a unique sound and style to it but with that ABR charm. But now they just seem sort of soulless and uninteresting, production wise. I still enjoy all their albums, just my hot take for the day
Thrill seeker as the bands worst album? Thrill seeker, messengers, constellations, all S tier. Leveler and guardians C tier, found in far away places A tier, all the other ones B tier. Even though I would consider constellations their best work, there are things that they do on thrill seeker that they don't do on any other album. It's an S tier all day.
I didn’t get into the band until Rescue & Restore, but I can’t fault your rankings at all. Mine are slightly different (i didn’t include Thrill Seeker). S: Death Below, Found in Far Away Places, Phantom Planet A: Guardians, Rescue & Restore, Leveler, Constellations B: Messengers

I feel like people hold too strong to the classics without giving a fresh relisten to them all. They’re all great, but they really matured into something more than just a metalcore band after leveler imo
idk i didn't really like Phantom Anthem it kinda felt like there were to much chugging and was kinda boring because of that its like a B for me but idk i might be just bored of metalcore
Grrr. I guess I just mean it has the most distinct songs and inspired songwriting of anything they’ve done since. I saw them a bit ago playing through all of Constellations, and most songs sounded the same.

The raw mix of Messengers gets me, that album is goat tier for me. The drums always crush me and their riffs are catchiest for me.
All the cymbals in that album.......... 🤤
They’ve just continued to age like a fine wine. Couldn’t agree with you more about Death Below being another “benchmark” album. Masterpiece
