Great tutorial, very informative. I used this to fit a new hand break cable (110 Defender 300 tdi CSW) when mine snapped. On the two spring retainer clips. I didn't have a special tool to get those back on, so I compressed the spring, put a cable tie round each side to keep it compressed and refitted them. Once in place I cut off the cable ties, making sure I got all the bits out. Worked as a field fix without the special tool.
Just want to say your videos are fantastic, I have been following you for awhile now and you have helped me so much, keep up the great work! Look forward to your new projects.
I know your not doing much landrover videos but a tip with those spring retainers is put a couple of small cable ties around the spring there sort the rest.
Great guide thank you and have used to replace the snapped cable on my D2. Decided to replace the shoes and springs too. I'm currently stuck trying to get the retaining springs back on. There's no room behind the backplate to keep the pin sticking out ie you can't get your hand behind to stop it disappearing when you try to push the spring down. Any idea how to get around this? I'm stumped. 🤔
What happens if you adjust it close ? My handbrake holds within 2 level clicks .. while coasting low speed i heard knocking/clunking ? Is that the issue from having it close ?
Hi, wonder if you can point me in some direction please. My 2008 defender tdci instrument cluster rev and speedo cluster stopped working. I have bought a new one but want my old mileage on the new unit which is obviously sitting a zero. Mine is close to 90k and i want it as it reflects the services i have done. Any idea how this could be done?
Thanks i like your videos! Do you know if you can retrofit the later Defender cable type to a Series transmission. They look like they mount the same......
I've had a look for a video for the rod type hand brake but can't see it? Have you guys made a video on it. I'd really be thankful if you have. Be nice to have one again on my 90 haha
Might have to take the handbrake drum off to get better access to the transfer box filler plug - broke an extension trying to budge the darned filler plug!
+Land Rover Toolbox Videos I can see were your coming from about price I overhauled a vertical type last night the hand brake rod actuator is a clever little device also did you watch any of jafromobile videos?
+J lloyd Hi! dont wait for the turorial the mechanism is really simple and straight forward the expander is only 6 parts and the adjuster only 3 parts to take out take everything apart, clean it, lube it, put it back together i am doing it right this moment :D good luck
oh and dont buy anything before dismantling, chances are you can fix it mine was seized up completely, both adjuster and expander now after 15 minutes work, they look brand spanking new and work very well
I hav an 06 range rover. 98k miles. When i drive, is shows transmission fault limited gears . And it does not go pass the third gear. Any one have similar experience?
Michael Anyim The transmission's ECU has the facility to store DTCs, or fault codes so it can be properly diagnosed. Best get the trouble codes retrieved so a proper diagnosis can be determined.
Great video! Finally somebody explains how to set the shoe-drum clearance properly!

Thank you - great video with clear description!
Brilliant video… Now know what I’m facing before getting under the car. Thanks 👍🏻
Great. I hope it worked out well for you?
Great video - thorough and well explained! You really know your stuff!
Awesome video… grown rather tired of blocking up me wheels 👍

Thank you Higgins, always very informative and helpful. As a suggestion, perhaps a tutorial on installation of raptor dash and wiring tutorial
Yes we should do that.
Great video. Can you name the ceramic compund youused for the adjuster?

G’day would there be a video on the transmission brake adjuster (Disco 1 ) having difficulty preventing the brake sticking on ? Thanks
I want to add a red booster for clutch in my landrover 110,tdi 300 engine. Would you do a diy video of it kindly.
Thank you
i have some right trouble getting the drum back on, is there any pointers you can give me? the adjustment of the shoes are right off.
G’day again I believe that is the expander I think I’m having trouble with - thanks
Great video - as always!
Great video. Thank you
Thanks for your video really helped
good to hear 😉
Thanks for the video Brake adjusted and works well 😀
How do you replace the hand break cabel out of the drum end. ?
Thanks in advance
Merci . Thank you

Hi, can you let me know where are the HB release cable for 1998 LRD1 LE..?
Do you have to remove the drive flange to change the prop-shaft bolts by the hand brake drum?
Yes you do unfortunately.
Thanks i like your videos! Do you know if you can retrofit the later Defender cable type to a Series transmission. They look like they mount the same......
Actually now that I look closer it appears that the cable one has 3 mounting bolts whereas the rod one is more like the Series brake.
I've not tried it to be honest. Perhaps put them side by side to see if they will fit.

+Sam Chedgy Okay I will get around to it after I have finished the LT230 overhaul.
My cable snapped for my rod type hand brake and I'm looking to replace it. Have you made a video yet for this older style? Thx, great videos BTW.
Not yet. I'd go fro cable anytime. Much less maintenance than the older rod type.

hi great vids , have you ever fitted a 200tdi into a S1 ? . mike
Does this transfer over to a Discovery 2? I don't remember my hand brake ever working so I would like to tackle this and see if I can solve the issue.
yeah it's the same thing. Bit tighter up in there but getting past the cable there should be okay
Awesome thank you. I'll start with simply tightening it and go from there

Much appreciated, Thank You.
You are very welcome !
Have you completed a video on the earlier type rod operated type yet?
+J lloyd not not yet. It is more costly to overhaul.

Hello , can you do LR3 !
Is that a carolous ratchet ??
Did all this when replacing the shoes, lever still goes sky high

Un sous-titrage en Français serait cool, car parfois je ne comprends pas ce qui est dit
What a poor overcomplicated system. Always leads to cable breakages.
Why did they ditch the old system.
Note you did not cover the cable replacement.
