It’s not really $500 a day though. It’s $680 with the mandatory insurance and Turo fees for 100 miles. For an 11 year old Ferrari California with “issues” that’s not cheap. Plus, your personal insurance doesn’t cover you while renting on Turo while it would cover you if you rented from Rob’s company (or any other rental car company.) I’ve rented some cool cars on Turo but it gets hard to justify at these prices.

    • @MrChadcolwell
      @MrChadcolwell 3 года назад +1

@@42dunbar If you think $680 is a lot to rent a Ferrari, you shouldn't be renting supercars. Also, your personal insurance covers you on Turo plus you have Turo's insurance through Allstate on top. With Gotham you need your own insurance and he's 5-6 times the price. A fully insured Ferrari 2 miles outside Manhattan, even for $680, is a steal. I Payed $2600 to rent this exact car for memorial day weekend. Rob would have been close to 10 Grand.

The problem with Turo is that it isn't sustainable for interesting/exotic/valuable cars. You can tell by the way some of them are priced that the owner doesn't take into account the true operating costs when using the car as a rental. People drop off when they realize they aren't making any money or it gets wrecked and Turo doesn't help.

UPDATE: Seatbelt works fine. If you pull it all the way out it does get stuck for a second before you ratchet it back in. Seems like something Rob was doing on purpose, or he has no idea how to work a seatbelt. The owner parked the car closer to my address for easier pickup and the car was freshly detailed. I rented the car all weekend, fully insured for $2600. That wouldn't have gotten me even a day with Rob and I would have needed to give my own insurance. He's loosing business to people with less overhead on Turo so he made a video trying to bash it. Plain and simple. Interesting that they can even allow the problems with the seat belt. You'd think they'd have to address that or there would be some sort of complaint area. Like the cosmetic stuff, that's life on these things. I'm also wondering how many people are told, you can get a Ferrari, just put it on Turo and it'll pay for itself and then they get their first damage bill and it's like, maybe you can't.

I can tell Turo is hurting your business. You went out of your way to crap on a growing platform and even stated things that are not accurate.
With turo you can have the vehicle delivered to your location if the host offers that service, another thing is you do not have to return the vehicle full of gas. Some host offer prepaid refueling or the host can fill up the car and charge you gas plus a 10 dollar convenience fee. Another part is you do not need to clean the vehicle before returning unless the vehicle is extremely dirty and stained, in that case you can either clean or receive a 150 dollar cleaning violation but reasonable wear is accepted.
If you didn’t think the vehicle was safe to drive you shouldn’t have taken it but we all know safety is not your thing otherwise you wouldn’t drive cross country at over 150mph+.
Rob, you seem like a very smart guy and can definitely do better than this.

Rob’s words > “looks reasonably like a Ferrari”, “I have slightly better standards”, “not a terrible use of money”, “I would pay another $100 for delivery”, “I’m up in the air whether this car was in a accident”. What a salesman for your company when most of your cars have been in accidents and you rent them as well.

the wear and tear on the seatbelt and bolsters suggests much higher mileage, especially as a rental where people like to get their moneys worth and drive it as much as they can.

I mean rollbacks are super easy these days, but you'd think someone would wait till right before selling to drop that bomb. 35,000 miles is a lot for a Ferrari seat and that seat belt flopping around is likely responsible for the bolster damage. Personally I think it's just a front end hit that wasn't properly repaired and a lot of city life damage. That airbag stitching, gauge hood jankiness, and gorked up seat belt tensioner is pretty indicative of a deployment. Good work by Detective Ferretti.

As a contrast the leather drivers seat bolster n my wifes 2015 Honda with 150,000 kms on it looks great despite the two of us driving it in jeans most of the time . .

Turo is weird when it comes to pricing. You've either got exotics where the rental fee can't be covering the true cost of ownership, and you've got basic pedestrian cars that are asking a lot more than you could rent a new one for at a rental agencies.

I think Turo should put privacy screens on the fence. You picked up a Ferrari from a space where you can see bags of garbage piled up with flies buzzing all over them. Ick! The cosmetic issues and the seatbelt being obvious signs of a front end collision on a rental at a $763 per day all-in is a no-go for me. If I’m renting an exotic, I’m going with one that wasn’t so “well used”. Perhaps something from Gotham, you follow?

Cars that busted after 34k miles and its "normal wear" and thats by no means a shot at the owner. It just kinda shows that people are more worried about brand recognition than actual quality and its become so obvious that some companies *cough ferrari * have just quit trying because they know people will buy regardless.

Protection plans are mandated by Turo, not the Host. Host's can set the mileage, but they have to pay Turo a cut for any overages.
So the host gets X% of what the daily rate was and that same percentage for any miles over the trip limit. Everything else goes in Turo's pocket unless you paid for an "Extra".
Its entirely possible that the host only earned $330 of the $762 you paid.

  • @Professional_Youtube_Commenter

we dont have turo in the UK, we have hiyacar it's known for being quite overpriced. It rented out by their owner - usually they're renting out their pride and joy and they put a really high price on it. If you compare it to commercial rental companies - their prices are actually high in comparison and the wear and tear on them is unacceptable. Commercial rental companies will not give you a vehicle with defects and "to do" maintenance work on them.
It would be straight up illegal to rent that vehicle with the faulty seatbelt, in a collision it's not going to offer any support what so ever.

It’s the insurance companies that are really the thieves. If this car gets rented 30x/year (probably low) the minimum 100$ fee (while the customer has valid exotic ins & rental ins, so it’s probably more for others) nets the insurance 3$K, owner’s insurance is probably double, so the ins co is getting 10$/K a year on a car that probably total’s at 25$K and obviously isn’t being used to fix-minor , but obviously noticeable-customer accidents (although to be fair, it’s possible the ins did pay out and owner just pocketed the $).
