I loved the sax bit but wonder if they were spoofing something or someone in particular, or just creating a mental picture of the place etc. Funny stuff either way.
You have to really know how to play... to play that bad!!! Jack Benny was actually a gifted violinist... but he couldn't make a living at it. So... he squeaked and squalked on it as part of his routine.

Texas and CA have pros and cons but the cities are getting kind of crazy here too but not as crazy as some in CA yet. I'm an independent voter leaning conservative but lots of issues are challenging our entire nation anymore even Texas but yes Texas remains to still be one of the best run states in the country.

I moved to CA in 1963 and loved "California Dreamin'." At that time being a native Californian was a badge of honor.
In '63 CA was synonymous with freedom, opportunity, good-paying jobs, and self-reliance.
Over the years, I fought the good fight and tried to stop the madness, but found it was useless. After being literally shouted down, called names, and even threatened ...
I fled the tyranny of overregulated, over-taxed, and the evil of so-called "social justice" in CA. And coming from CA, I was rightly viewed with suspicion and skepticism.
But moving to a free State has restored my sanity, freedom, and self-respect.
I moved to L.A. in July 1990. As I got off the plane and went to get my suitcases in LAX I saw the sign "Mayor Tom Bradley Welcomes you to Los Angeles." I remember his smiling face in the life-sized cardboard cutout. Those were fun times.

Christine, I feel your frustration! I was raised in CA & went to college there! Since I married a military man we traveled abroad & throughout our country. Every time we would visit I saw my state deteriorate! I truly miss the clean, beautiful beaches & hills. CA had everything; beaches, hills, gorgeous forests in Northern CA, a paradise. I hope they can get a new governor to clean up the mess!

As a Canadian from Vancouver, there’s a lot of similarities with our city. To me California was a place where everything was possible! I love your state. It’s such a shame what’s happened to the west coast from Vancouver, all the way to California. I was once in San Francisco and saw this guy on the street at Fisherman’s Wharf. As a midwesterner who who takes a few business trips to CA every year, I am always amazed by what I see there. I see both why everyone wanted to move there a half century ago and why, sadly people want out now. So sad because it is arguably the most beautiful state in the union.

It was pretty good. *Listen to Weird Al though: the meter is NEVER off.* No syllables crammed in. You can sing Weird Al lyrics over the karaoke track without every hearing the Wierd Al version. That means the meter is ON. Syllable for syllable.
This: good humor, but the meter kinda blows. I could fix this up for them in a day or two. It actually takes work to get the meter right. Somebody like Jackson Browne might spend 5 days on it... now think of the lyrics to "running on empty." Or any Talking Heads song. Perfect meter.

I fled California 20 years ago and have never regretted it! I missed all the bad stuff like the homelessness by moving. Although going back for a visit is mind blowing now.
I left in 80 and every time I go back, I pat myself on the back for the best decision I’ve ever made! Last trip we had a violent encounter and that’s when I realized that California is forever doomed!! Tents all up and down the LA freeways!! It looked like something out of the Walking Dead there!!

A lot of folks think the original (California Dreamin') was Brian Wilson (Beach Boys) - but they never performed it - it was The Mamas and the Papas (John & Michelle Phillips) - who also wrote the song.
The Beach Boys recorded it and put it on a record. I believe Barry McGuire was the first to record it.

You wouldn't think so by listening, but their layered vocals are difficult to do - and if not precise, doesn't sound like a particular song of theirs. I'm a 3rd generation Californian, family going back to Gold Rush days, who saw this all coming about 1990, moved to a red state and haven't looked back since. The California of today is the opposite of the California of my early life. I am still extremely sad and miss that California like a family member who's passed away. THE RESON WHY A MOVED OUT OF CALIFORNIA AND moved to Alabama last year? My story, My wife and I ran a small business Downtown in LA, Its are The taxes are so high I had to raise my prices at our store just to make ends meet. When I raised my price I could no longer compete with the big box stores thus losing business and as a result lowering my income. And I could no longer afford my property tax or my business taxes. 2nd California has the highest gas taxes, the highest utility taxes, and the highest Property Taxes in the Nation. 3rd reason crime. I we went to work at our store we drove past countless homeless people living on the street. We would drive by people selling and using drugs in broad daylight with impunity. Also 2 months before we moved, a man came into the store stuck a gun in my face, and told me if I didn't give him all the money in the cash register he would "BLOW ME AWAY' so I gave him the money I called the police they to a report and they promptly caught the guy two blocks away shooting up. He was taken to jail. The very next day the same man again robbed my store and took all my money again. On top of that, I have countless people shoplifting daily sealing everything from cigarettes to toilet paper with immunity. My insurance company dropped me, stating I was too high risk. So I had enough and we moved to Alabama where my wife's mother lives. Now I love California the state is beautiful
There are many free parks the beaches are great and recreation in California is second to none. But we were forced to give all that up including I was forced to leave my mother, father, and two sisters behind. My wife and I started a new business in Alabama and are making way more money than we ever did in California because no one steals from our store or tries to rob me. Not only that taxes are ridiculously low, we now live in a house that is twice the size of the one in California for Half the price. And the property taxes are so low here I don't see how they can afford to fix the roads or anything and don't get me going on gas prices I was paying $5.69 a gallon the last time I filled up 3.39 a gallon. But everything is not all roses. The summer here are extremely hot I mean really hot and humid and there are bugs everywhere. What most surprised me about Alabama besides the cost of living is that my family is black and I was told by all my California friends that I was making a grave mistake because everyone knew that Alabama was the racist Capital of the world! But I came to find out there are far more racists in California than in Alabama. The first day we moved in a white couple knocked on our door and invited us to a family BBQ they were having on Sunday. My wife was sure how we would be treated but we went anyway to my surprise we weren't the only black couples there were lots of them, along with Asians, Filipinos, and Hispanic couples they were laughing, kids playing together. They had just finished church and were invited to my neighbor's home for a BBQ.
The bottom line is I think I'm going to like it here in Alabama and wish I had moved out there years ago. So for my Fellow California don't be afraid to leave there is a brave and better life waiting for you outside California

Since you posted things have gotten worse in Los Angeles. Every day the news is filled with smash & grab crimes, home invasion robberies, street crime, assaults by the homeless. The LAPD rarely responds to burglary calls. Instead, they tell the victim to file a report online and file a claim with the insurance company. A business owner called the police while his store was being looted by a mob of people. It took the cops 2 hours to show up. I'm also thinking of leaving CA.
I'm still here, and my partner, who is Hispanic notices that its becoming hostile here. It gets a little worse every year, you were right to get out of here. People here are looking for someone to blame, and they choose minorities, they give my partner the cold shoulder all the time, they give her the "stink eye", treat her rudely. You just can't win with Gavin Newsom in charge, he has ruined everything and he continues to cause more problems, every chance he gets. He's got everyone fighting each other.
