  • About 50 minutes of the 3rd Super Test. West Indies won the first two matches, the third and final game was played at Football Park in Adelaide over New Year 1977. Ian Chappell made a ton, as did Bruce Laird and the great Viv Richards in the second. Highlights of the first three days, sadly very little of Viv's innings, all the wickets though.......sadly not a lot of SuperTest 2.......otherwise I'd put it up...

Bruce Laird never managed a ton in an official test match. The one he scored here against a strong WIndies attack shows what a very good player he was.

A rare win v Windies in WSC first season. The Chappell era saw the birth of modern cricket. All these years later, this needs to be acknowledged. Great upload, show more if it's available. 1975/6 preceding this was Lillee & Thomson blow the Windies out of the water, hence every Test team always looking for the fastest in their backyard.

Look carefully at the dismissal of Bruce Laird, caught Lloyd at 4:44 . It was a bump ball, which is why Laird didn't walk immediately! It can be seen in every replay that follows, and the trajectory of the ball to Lloyd isn't at all as would be expected if it came directly off the edge of the bat.

It was not an official test series . If you delve into the history of World Series Cricket you will find it came in being by Australian media mogul Kerry Packer as an alternative to traditional cricket which had become stagnant . Organisers of WSC were very innovative , this is when batting helmets were first worn , coloured cricket clothes with body shirts , night cricket , drop in cricket pitches and 50 over games were introduced . It was a cricket revolution which today's cricketers and fans can be thankful for .

@@kunalsingh3121 Yes , I agree . Traditional cricket was destroyed . As innovative as WSC was , here in Australia First Class Cricket crowds fell dramatically as all the best players were playing international cricket . Today hardly a soul attend Sheffield Shield matches , instead people go to Big Bash 20/20 games . Even the once very popular 50 over games are suffering from crowd depletion due to this new form of cricket . Test cricket survives , but as a once avid cricket fan I don't have the keen interest in that form of cricket anymore , it is overly commercialized now .
      All the best .

I remembered when the wi team left to Kerry Paker ,after resigned from test cricket to play for more money. So when I heard these former players were criticizing some of younger players ,about their commitment. For playing for the wi team over money, it is two things to it. Either they are full of bad minds against the amount of money these guys is getting to play, or they forgot what they did .
I hope they could got the chance to watch how they played poor cricket here, and now they are critizing these younger now.
The only thing useto really helped the wi team as such, was mostly the bowling. Because the batting was not that good at all, the bowling was the wi strength with those short pitch balls.

Looks bizarre to see this played in a stadium that was virtually empty. The crowds stayed away at first out of some kind of loyalty to the 'establishment'. The Packer rebels were seen as traitors at first but by the end of the summer they were playing in front of decent crowds, the next summer everybody and his brother were queueing up and reaching into their pockets to pay cash money for tickets.
