    I have Lupus. My Dad had Crohn’s disease and so does my uncle. My Dad’s side of the family lost the genetic lottery (50% of us have autoimmune diseases). I can’t say that I understand what it’s like to have Crohn’s disease, but I understand what it’s like to have horrible stomach pain. I can really sympathize. I’m so sorry that the pain is coming back.

    I do not have an experience like yours but I can relate to having to explain strange medical equipment and having to explain my health conditions all my life. I have cerebral palsy. I have through surgeries, castings, and weird devices.... the whole nine yards. It is amazing to see someone like you navigate a medical situation with such grace, joy, and self acceptance. It is so inspiring to see and encourages me. seeing your marriage with Zak, who is so caring and considerate of you, gives me hope that I can have that too. Thank you for sharing your story. I respect you for having the courage to be so honest and real with complete strangers to shed light on crohns. The education and message is spot on. Keep doing what you are doing.

    I am in nursing school! And I was diagnosed with IBS 3 years ago because they have no idea what’s going on! But the burning stomach aches are all too familiar to me so I understand that. I love following your story because I haven’t felt good for years but your story gives me some hope even though IBD and IBS are completely different

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby 3 года назад

      My husband has IBS. Dairy, especially cheese, is a big trigger food for him. I've been a vegetarian since I was a teenager and he decided to become one too when we got married. It helped his IBS a lot, but he would still get flare-ups sometimes. Most of the time, what causes a flare-up for him now is stress. Anxiety is a big factor in IBS, almost as much as the food triggers. As you probably already know, the good news is that unlike IBD and related disorders, IBS does not leave scarring, so it will never cause you to need surgery for it. There are medicines that can help. My husband takes hyocyamine, which relaxes the smooth muscles in the intestinal tract. It works fast and helps a lot.

    Maggie, you & Zak are exactly whom I wish could be part of my friends-circle, you guys are fantastic and especially you, who is just conquering the world day after day! Your page mysteriously popped up for me one day, which is amazing because I have a very close relatively going through something that required her to have a temporary bag, that was literally removed just this past Thursday. But you’ve helped me understand a lot of things related to that, and I’m forever grateful. I’m going to continue viewing your lives together because you guys are just awesome personalities, without crohns even being an issue to teach about!

    My family has crohns- mom ,uncle, sister,brother. Me and my little brother have not been diagnosed- mom was diagnosed after she gave birth to me and my sister was not diagnosed until she gave birth to her 2nd daughter. For my family no one has gotten an ostomy bag. But several months spent in icu’s years home from school my mom probably lived off cans of ensure for more than a year. I’m terrified. I’ve had symptoms but nothing to alarming. I haven’t had any kids yet(not for lack of trying) but it seems in our family it really seems to flair up after child birth. I think my phone must have heard me talking about crohns- and boom your channel showed up 😂. I love that this disease is talked about and people such as yourself as open. Because when someone says oh what is crohns and you start talking about it. It’s not exactly a conversation you can have over lunch 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I hear you about nasal allergies! I have to take Alavert everyday. I was also prescribed Nasonex, but I hate putting anything up my nose. I have asthma, so I take my inhaler every day or so. It helps just a little with that ragged noise in my throat. All you can do is drink lots of water. Stress will affect your health hon. You have to decide which things are worth having in your life, so you can get rid of the stress factors. *hugs* Stress can magnify pain, increase stomach acid, increase cortisol. Meditate when you can.

    Do you have any information for someone who is looking like they're going to have the same surgery as you've had, but also has had gastric bypass 20 yrs ago and is also lactose intolerant and has ibs? I have stenosis in my sigmoid, I am prone for hernias and have had 4 hernias repaired and think i have 2 more developing where I have had laparoscopic surgery and the trochar sites seem to herniate easily. I am losing my hair like crazy. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't have chrones,but I do have colitis. Thanks for all of your upbeat help and support.

    Ok, so OMGOODNESS...Maggie, I have a huge most important question to ask you. One, being your a nurse you will know, two, I just saw what I thought was a huge no no with having an ileostomy. Down to the question..lol
    I noticed your vegan burger had sesame seeds on top the bun, is that safe to eat the seeds? I was told I couldn’t eat seeds. Dr. Told me could cause a lot of problems, also said I can’t eat fresh fruit only canned fruit, same with vegetables..no fresh, only canned. All because of having an ileostomy. Maggie, please be honest as I know you may think your stepping on Drs feet or something, it fine..can you eat these things? Thanks so much! I will be honest, I’m afraid of about everything because I don’t want a bowel obstruction. Ok, I’m done going on and on about it,.lol
