I stand corrected!!!! If I had watched this video first before the free up space video I would have known what those signs meant at bottom of pic. I thought it meant that it was uploaded. So that’s why the pic disappeared from both places because it wasn’t done uploading lol geez
I think this video answers a different problem/question. If you use the google photos free up space it will not remove these from the cloud. If you use another app to go to the file storage and delete photos then you would EXPECT these to be deleted from the cloud as well. UPDATE: Seems they don't get deleted any more after all.

@@dlai5702 yes wait for the pic to upload before deleting. I made the same mistake. If you go in google photos and tap a pic and then tap the 3 dots at top right it should say “delete from device” and then you know this pic is downloaded and safe to delete from your phone.
I'm so grateful to have found your videos! I have an iphone. In Google photos, I confirmed that backup is complete. Then I went to google photos 'apps & devices' >> 'free up space' (94% used on my phone) and it said I had thousands to delete from device. I clicked to delete them, but they are still on my phone and my google photos app still says 94% used on device. But when I repeat the process and click on "free up space", google photo says "nothing to free up". Please help:)
This may be because they are still in the delete folder. They stay there for 30 days unless you manually go in and delete them. Could that be the problem?

anyone know how to stop the circle of death on Samsung Galaxy 5 android phone when trying to syn and back up photos on google photos in that it keeps preparing to back up and says 9 or 69 items remain but can never finally syn and back up these remaining ones?Have also added back up and sync from google photos on my windows 7 computer. It is constantly syncing photos and I have not cancelled or quit on my computer, I simply turn the computer off but when I go back on the computer it starts syncing photos since it remains on. Once these photos are synced from computer from the program back up and syn from google on the computer, are they also backed up on my Samsung Galaxy phone and can be therefore deleted from phone?

I am a first time google photos user. I am gone almost insane after deleting the originals videos of my holiday after having thought google photos must have backed up all the photos and videos. But it actually didn’t. 😢 Fortunately iphone still stores deleted photos/videos for 30 days so I didn’t loose them. From now on, I will use the tool of ‘free up space’ and stay calm!

Hi, there! I wouldn’t organize on your phone prior to uploading to Google Photos since it won’t preserve your organization. I organize my photos by quarter (eg 2023 Q4). That helps me navigate more easily and it’s also a structure I use to backup my photos. I hope that helps!

Hi, Jacqueline. I hope I'm understanding your question, but if you say that all 3,000 photos are again in your Camera Roll then you can delete them without affecting Google Photos. Hope that helps!
Even after doing all these my photos get deleted from Google photos I've checked so many times the uploading is also finished but still it gets deleted from Google photos if i delete it from my gallery
The key is that you need to sync first all of it by clicking the top right hand circle to start the process. Then once they are saved, which can take a while, then the deletion works without removing them from iPhone.
What about how do I delete photos from google photos but not my phone? Because when I try to delete from google photos, it asks me if I want to allow the app to delete it from my phone.. but I just want to delete it from google photos

This did not happen to me. I waited until all of the photos were 100% downloaded, deleted photos on my phone, and they deleted from the app as well. But not the backup. They are still on the backup but not the app. Help!
Guys if you are scared because you delete them off your iPhone but when you look at storage it still says you have all of them all you have to do is go to your photos go to albums and go down to recently deleted. Then just delete all of the photos and they stay in google photos
Oh and if you look at you storage after that and it still hasn’t change you just have to wait like 10-15 minutes depending on how many photos you had but you can watch as it slowly goes down like I did

the manage device storage button - I click - it supposedly deletes a bunch ( I'm one of those that started with 1000's.... But there are still thousands of pictures on my phone. When I open my apple "photos" app - even the most recent pictures are still there - even though I see them in the google photos app, AND I've supposedly deleted everything that's backed up? Are there multiple copies?
Are you absolutely certain they have been uploaded to the cloud? If so, you may have duplicates. You can see what happens when you delete one from your phone. Does it affect anything in Google Photos?
Only one should be accessing your gallery at a time. For the other, the photos will appear in the Google Photos app, but they will have an icon that looks like a cloud with a slash through it to indicate that they are not being backed up to that Google Photos account. Hope that helps!

As long as you wait until all of your photos are uploaded to Google Photos, then they are safely in the cloud. Then you can delete the app or reset your phone and your photos will still be there when you reinstall!

I created albums in my G photos app, upload specific pictures to each. There wasn’t any special indicators around my profile picture or on the pictures themselves. I check numerous times, hours apart, to make sure they were in those folders. Deleted from my phone. The next day, they were all gone! Ideas? Can I retrieve them once a I have deleted from my phone?
Hi, Andrea -- oh, dear, I hope you can! You can check your deleted photos album and see if they are still there or if you've deleted them entirely off your phone. If they are still in deleted photos, you should be able to recover them!
I have Google photos sync and back up OFF. Yet still when I delete photos from my apple phone it deletes it from the Google photos. Now I have the same pictures in both Apple and Google cloud. How do I unlink them??? Only thing I found so far is deleting the Google photos app and never signing into it again from my iphone. That is NOT the solution I want. When I factory reset my chromebook and wipe out all the data, will it completely delete all my google photos? If so, will my other devices still have the photos saved in the google photo app or will the photos be deleted in my other devices like my phone which has same account as my chromebook?
Everything should be preserved up in the cloud, so you shouldn’t lose any of your photos. UNLESS they are not fully backed up. I would log onto your account online from another computer to make sure the photos have all been synced!
Beginner here, Um when I take pictures it sends pictures to my photos and it also sends it to google photos, and the problem is that I want it to send it to google photos not to photos is there a fix?
This is the way it works. When you take photos, they are sent to Photos, but once they upload to Google Photos, you can delete everything from your camera roll. Hope that helps!
If that's the case of what you're saying then why does Google say that you delete it from your phone gallery they'll take it out of anywhere you've shared it anywhere you put it on other devices any link with other devices and they'll remove it from the cloud now that's their words not mine still that's why I'm confused.

Almost all my photos are my on digital art that is sometimes a stacked num ber of to create a final image .Same with sime of my video " movies " where ive had videos virtually destroyed because images were removed by google once i removed some from ... that being the case if i had sold a screen aaver or dig art piece to someone and this happened it would not be good . I really don't know if this can happen but I know the movies were ruined and "could not play' with whatever and I just don't know I just don't understand what's going on here cuz I don't know what which is the original and I'm a creative artist and not a very good organizer so I've got to find a way to make it easier for me so I don't have a problem and I don't know I'm looking now but I don't know what the answer is and whether it's true or not when I heard somebody say the other day that they removed a picture from their Google library and it disappeared from their Amazon library that just blew a hole in my plan for a way of making things secure like I said I don't know if it's true or not but I'm about to give up and well just give up. Just make sure photos have uploaded to Google Photos. Then when you delete from the photos app on your iPhone, they will stay in Google Photos. Good luck.

Delete your photos from the iPhone Camera Roll. They should stay in Google Photos. If they don't, they haven't backed up yet!

I think you mean Google Photos rather than Drive. Once you have synced, deleting manually on your phone will not also delete from Google Photos.

I added back up and sync from google on my windows 7 computer which backed up , according to seeing these photos that were on numerous files on my computer , I then saw in my google photos account on my computer and also on my phone but since they say either uploaded from back up and sync or from phone, I do not really know if they are backed up on both phone and computer since the phone keeps saying 69 items remain to back up???
How I recover it ? I deleted all my photos from Google photos
Google photos stopped uploading cuz it’s full now and I still have photos to be backed up smh I only have like 2k
I created albums in my G photos app, upload specific pictures to each. There wasn’t any special indicators around my profile picture or on the pictures themselves. I check numerous times, hours apart, to make sure they were in those folders. Deleted from my phone. The next day, they were all gone! Ideas? Can I retrieve them once a I have deleted from my phone?
Hi, Andrea -- oh, dear, I hope you can! You can check your deleted photos album and see if they are still there or if you've deleted them entirely off your phone. If they are still in deleted photos, you should be able to recover them!

I have Google photos sync and back up OFF. Yet still when I delete photos from my apple phone it deletes it from the Google photos. Now I have the same pictures in both Apple and Google cloud. How do I unlink them??? Only thing I found so far is deleting the Google photos app and never signing into it again from my iphone. That is NOT the solution I want. I would like to have my google photos app there so I can look at it whenever I want.
I don't know that I can help with this. If you have back up off, it shouldn't be copying to Google Photos!

I don't think there is a way to do this from the app.
When I factory reset my chromebook and wipe out all the data, will it completely delete all my google photos? If so, will my other devices still have the photos saved in the google photo app or will the photos be deleted in my other devices like my phone which has same account as my chromebook?
Everything should be preserved up in the cloud, so you shouldn’t lose any of your photos. UNLESS they are not fully backed up. I would log onto your account online from another computer to make sure the photos have all been synced!
Beginner here, Um when I take pictures it sends pictures to my photos and it also sends it to google photos, and the problem is that I want it to send it to google photos not to photos

This is the way it works. When you take photos, they are sent to Photos, but once they upload to Google Photos, you can delete everything from your camera roll. Hope that helps!

If that's the case of what you're saying then why does Google say that you delete it from your phone gallery they'll take it out of anywhere you've shared it anywhere you put it on other devices any link with other devices and they'll remove it from the cloud now that's their words not mine still that's why I'm confused.
Yes, you'll need to share directly from Google Photos rather than from your Camera Roll.

Almost all my photos are my on digital art that is sometimes a stacked num ber of to create a final image .Same with sime of my video " movies " where ive had videos virtually destroyed because images were removed by google once i removed some from ... that being the case if i had sold a screen aaver or dig art piece to someone and this happened it would not be good . I really don't know if this can happen but I know the movies were ruined and "could not play' with whatever and I just don't know I just don't understand what's going on here cuz I don't know what which is the original and I'm a creative artist and not a very good organizer so I've got to find a way to make it easier for me so I don't have a problem and I don't know I'm looking now but I don't know what the answer is and whether it's true or not when I heard somebody say the other day that they removed a picture from their Google library and it disappeared from their Amazon library that just blew a hole in my plan for a way of making things secure like I said I don't know if it's true or not but I'm about to give up and well just give up. You'll need an Internet connection when backing up Google Photos since they are stored in the cloud.

Yes, that's true. Deleting photos from Google Photos also takes them off of your phone.

Just make sure photos have uploaded to Google Photos. Then when you delete from the photos app on your iPhone, they will stay in Google Photos. Good luck.
