Have had a t maxx nitro for years and just bought a belted sledge. My friend has an E Revo which I've driven a bunch, and love it, so I knew my next truck would be electric. The sledge is so sick, holy crap!?!? Never really had an issue with slow steering servo before, but even as a non competitive person, I can tell it's ridiculously slow. So I'm going to upgrade. Thank you for all the great and useful information!! Much appreciated 🙏 I still have the t maxx and because of the sound of that nitro engine turning 26,000 RPM and then shifting into second gear, I'm definitely going to keep it. The T-Max nitro is like audio porn for my ears! Plus, I love working on things, love tuning to perfection, it makes me happy!
Great video! That High Torque 600 servo is incredible. The stock Sledge servo in a Maxx is extremely slow. I went back to the stock Maxx servo shortly after trying the Sledge servo.
I like the video how you broke it down. And made it easy.I'm new to this confident.I could do it after watching your video. I would like to know what milwaukee tool your using
I’ve had good customer service from both companies. I just send in the Spectrum 2200 smart charger that stop working and I was able to speak with someone on the phone. They ended up just sending me out a new one and I also had similar experience’s with Traxxas. As far as servo’s go, I pretty much put the Perfect Pass or the Reefs servos in all my RC’s. I have a box full of stock servos lol…
Thank you for your answer, that's what I thought, it's a pity that the TRAXXAS esc can't change the voltage, I'll have to think about changing it to the HOBBYWING esc. Regards
The only thing i can say good about the stock servi on sledge is it held the line when heading towards the ramp very well , even better than my water ghost 70kg brushless servo i put in it, its much faster and more power, but dont stay straight as well heading up to ramp when off road
I had to replace the servo in my Maax right at the 30 day mark! To many skatepark chassis slaps! They sent me a new one, YES, after I paid to ship the broken one back, but still not to bad. I never even put it in, I bought the 2085x?? (X-Maax servo) and it was light years better than the factory junk. Customer service is hit and miss! We really beat on our trucks, break them often, their phone diagnosis is off more often than not. Granted, they are not present to see or hear what is going on! I had motor bearing in a Rustler go bad in 5 months and they swore it was the slipper clutch!😂😂 it’s all good though, at least they answer the phone. As far as after-market parts, the Traxxas fans for Rustlers are junk. We’ve broke multiple! We run yeah racing fans, housing is metal not plastic. ESC on one of the Rustlers went out in 4 months, running a Hobby Wing Max 6 with a 4S battery! The Rustler hauls the mail! Super fast!
I’ll half to try another servo in the Maxx. Traxxas support can be a hit or miss, but they answer the phone pretty fast. I’ve seen those fans, they are very nice.
I guess the 2255 is more suitable for the Sledge than the 2280. Speed of the 2255 at 6 V is nearly the same as 2280 (on paper, haven't done a live compare with 2280, but it's a hell of a lot faster than stock 2275). Torque of the 2255 is sufficient enough that the servo saver is limiting the actual steering power anyway so in my opinion the extra price of the 2280 does not bring any noticable improvement over the 2255.
The 2280 is over kill, great servo, plenty of power. You’d be fine with the 2255, 400oz is perfect. Even with the 2280 running 7.4v with the HobbyWing, I don’t notice the change because the SLEDGE has so much power it’s gonna push in the turns either way. I notice the difference when running off road.
Traxxas warranty is actually not the best, 30 days is not enough time cover it, in addition, after the warranty window has ended, it is a matter of whether they like you or not if they will give you a complimentary exchange, but the majority of time they will charge you 50% to get it replaced. I understand having to pay for parts that are deliberately broken, but I have had multiple servos, ESE and motors that have stopped working.
I’ve talked to a few other companies, and so far Traxxas is still the best in my opinion for warranty. This hobby isn’t like other hobbies, they don’t know how the part broke they can only assume it was from bashing, landing hard, water, etc. It also depends on how you handle the situation on the phone. The one thing I do not like, if the part is under warranty you still need to pay to have the part shipped to Traxxas. Most other companies give you a prepaid shipping label.
I honestly regret getting my sledge even though i got it for 400 bucks because to make it bashable , i mean truely bashable you have to replace the chassis with vitavon gpm m2c or other brand, need a reverse gpm or vitavon motor\center diff mount, have to replace flimsy shock towers, hinge pin holders , hing pins, diffs , and if you get the gpm chassis that is thicker at 4mm then you need a better motor to compensate for the extra wieght. And before you know it your like $1400-$1600 in on it..... Just get a kraton exb at least they use better aluminum than Traxxas, wich decided to use cheap ass flimsy stamped aluminum parts that fail and bend , the chassis bends first at the motor\center diff area and messes up the mesh between the spur\pinion and you chew gears up realy fast. So many problems, now with tge extra wieght esc also needs replaced, so you spend a crap ton. I may have more than 1500 un mine , id have to add it all up
The Sledge is expensive to start with, and there are essentially upgrades it needs that we listed. But I think we all expect a lot out of RC’s today. The Sledge is 6s, but you don’t hear anyone say how well it runs on 4s. The MAXX is nearly unbeatable on 4s, and would last forever if ran on 3s. We like to make content for everyone to watch, and the Sledge on 6s is such a beast that something is bound to break. Thank you for the comments, you’re 💯 right. I really was disappointed when Traxxas changed the color schemes instead of fixing a few vital weaknesses.
I'm not sure but i think you are wrong. Your new servo can run 7.4. you can use it with the stock ESC also with 7.4. but you need the BEC from traxxas. The part number on the traxxas website is 2262.
Typical Traxxas: Crap electronics, and take the truck half apart to change out the junk servo. I'll be damned if I'll buy another Traxxas servo, as a replacement. For what they charge for these trucks, they should come with re-branded Hobbywing...I own ~ a dozen AFGRC servos, some of which have been in multiple vehicles. I don't want components to break in the 1st place, which is why I don't use overpriced Traxxas junk. I have better things to do than replace crappy electronics, so I don't have to use CS much. The one Hobbywing failure I had was an ESC that I didn't secure well enough, and it got beaten to death in my 1/8 scale buggy, on track, before I realized it was loose. HW replaced it, even though it was my fault. When I replace the servo in my Sledge, the AFGRC servo lead will be rerouted, so I don't need a foot of lead to follow traxxas FUBAR routing, eliminating the need to do all this unnecessary work.
My go to for Sledge videos. Thanks man!
Thank you, if there’s anything you’d like us to make let us know.
Great comparison now I'm wanting to upgrade my servos
That servo is crazy fast!!

No clickbait here. Great video and game changer for sure

There is something about the sound, smell, and handling of a nitro. Definitely get a better servo, it really wakes it up.

You’re exactly right, which is odd.
Cool Video!👍🔥

Stoked to try this servo on my sledge
Could we get more 4x4 slash videos?
We got one coming out this Saturday!

Hello, I have a question: how to change the voltage on the servo to a higher 7.4v?
You must buy a ESC that’s rated for 7.4V. Almost all Traxxas ESC are 6.0v There’s a lot of aftermarket ESC that have BEC of 7.4v like Hobbywing.
Thank you for your answer, that's what I thought, it's a pity that the TRAXXAS esc can't change the voltage, I'll have to think about changing it to the HOBBYWING esc. Regards
@@Majson-t6t you don't have to change the ESC. You need the BEC from Traxxas. Part 2260
@@Daytona89 Thank you for the tip

Have you done a comparison of the trx 2250,2255and 2280 speed? That would be great if you did.
Not yet, but that would be a good comparison
Great video tutorial. Can you tell us which Milwaukee Driver you are using? I like that it has a clutch. Or do you prefer a different brand driver?
It’s the Milwaukee 2401-20 M12
@@redbanditracing Is this your preferred driver when working on RC's? Because I was also looking at the Milwauke M4 cordless screwdriver 2101-22
Yes, it’s a great driver. You don’t want anything too fast it could ruin threads in your car, or you can accidentally over tighten.
@@redbanditracing Yeah, I'm just wondering how much torque the M4 has compared to yours. But I like the one you have.
You definitely don’t want a lot of torque, buy the one we have and set the torque to level 1
what drill are you using?
It’s a bit driver, Milwaukee.
What motor mount are you running? Do you think it works well?
M2C Motor Mount, best setup for the Sledge. Check out the install video
I ordered one.
And found some play on the outcomming shaft..
Opened it up and...ha ha ..no bearing inside...
WTF
Do you buy it used?
No sealed.
But no refund .they say i opened it so no waranty..

But you know, that the Traxxas ESC only suport 6.0V. You need the BEC Upgrade to use the full power of this servo
The only way to run 7.4v to the ESC is upgrading the ESC to like a Hobbywing.
I'm not sure but i think you are wrong. Your new servo can run 7.4. you can use it with the stock ESC also with 7.4. but you need the BEC from traxxas. The part number on the traxxas website is 2262.
Or 2260. I'm 100% you need this. Then your New servo runs with 7.4v also with the stock ESC. Search on RUclips and you will find the answer
@Daytona89 That BEC is only good for up to 3S - Sledge uses 4S or 6S.
You cannot run a servo with 7.4V with the stock ESC.
arent they all made in CHINA
Like most things I’m sure
All this stuff together in one or two pieces. A joke. Only to change the servo you have to unlock a lot of screws.
It makes the wiring more secure, you also don’t see a lot of wires on the Sledge.
Id get the perfect pass servo before i spent more on that servo in video
