This will cause me to spend LESS time on RUclips. I used to scroll through recommended videos on the right as I watched a another video. If I now have to scroll away from the current video to see recommended, it's unlikely I will do that.
Well you still had to scroll past the video eventually in the old UI. I hear what you're saying that the scroll is immediate for the recommended videos with the new UI.
The old design is even better than the new. If you want to go to the comments you will see a glimpse of a lot of recommendations on the side, increasing your chances to stay on RUclips.
Do you have the new layout?
Mine just got changed a few hours ago. It sucks.
It's definitely different. Lotta folks are not happy about it.

I just happened to open a live stream video when the change occurred for me. Someone in the live chat said "subscribe and like the video please". It took me about 10 minutes to figure out that the like button was actually hidden under the live chat which you have to close to see. After that I switched back to the old UI.
New design sucks, I agree.
But do you really like a video specifically when someone asks you to?
@@Fosten12 Depends on the channel. I've been subbed to the channel for awhile so I thought sure why not. It's no effort to just click like, well except for the new UI. I'll keep the old UI now.

wanting to read or add a comment i reflexively scrolled down - only to be perplexed by the absence of the comment section
I agree that we’ve grown accustomed to it BUT I do think the comment section on the right allows for a more active engagement.
Now it being smaller is a bit of a concern so I’m not sold on this new placement quite yet.
@@tegbaker maybe the whole point is that youtube wants users to watch videos, rather than to engage in conversations through the comments section
@@EvgenyUskov engagement is still for the platform but it does seem that new layout is geared towards people clicking on more videos.
To be honest the new layout wants you to switch videos faster, so they can show you more ads. The shopping option is still a joke. They have to work on better partnerships. I don’t want to sell some Tshirts or use shopify.
I would tend to agree that they want to watch more content and see which videos retain you the longest amongst all the other choices.
I don’t believe it’s solely an ad play. In regards to the shopping, it’s still clunky, but I have feeling updates will be coming soon to make it better.
i am commeting this before watching the video but i feel like i need to get used to this new layout. i only just got it to try it out via RUclips premium. I can see some benefits like being in full screen and being able to look at the comments and commit while watching the video to the left. if they want people to use there shop it is in a more accessible corner as well as the comments, but its going to take time to get used to. The thumbnails look good being bigger, but i am not used to them being down there. Some of it very much reminds me of the mobile versions and maybe them trying to make them look and feel even more similar. ill see if im right ill get back to watching the video now.

i don't really like the new layout. maybe it will grow on me. i don't see any recommended videos on the bottom but i got the comments on the side. so all i have is video and comments
I hear you. It’s definitely an adjustment and it seems like we are moving away from what people want.
