Please help me grow this channel by sharing this and my other videos as far and wide as you can , I'm not trying to do this "make youtube my job thing " but rather do something that might make A difference for some riders out there :)
All I need is the chaintentioner footage
same hahhahaha
Missed the most important part: Chain tensioner.
I was thinking the same thing, basically a worthless video since didnt show everything from start to finish, SMH and facepalm.
@@matticus6339it can’t be that hard lmao
I have a 2009 Giant brass 1 what size single speed conversation kit should I get?

@@benallen2028 lol ur a perfectionist
Unless you're smart like me and don't need to remember silly quotes to remember which way to unthread a bolt 😂
I’m only watching this to find out how to do the opposite in my jump bike
Wow a wild seth comment wassup bro

fake seth..
Oh hello😂
Anyone trying to make an SE bike from a MTB 😂
i’m doing a dj
Picked up a $50 bike and I’m gonna attempt to 😅
Yup
when you cant adjust your chain at the end of the video so you just cut to a shot of how the bike looked originally LOL dont quit your day job kid.
Wow I'm Cambodia and I glad to see you put khmer song in your video❤️❤️
why is there blood on ur wall
I was waiting for this comment , its not blood it's insulation paint. The can fell from the roof and splattered everywhere.
JustFrana you should’ve said it was blood........much cooler story if you said you also run an underground fight club in your garage 😂😂😂😂😂😂🤟🤟
the blood adds to the video. very metal. btw, a very well done demonstration video.
"Why is there blood on your wall" looks like paint to me
Yes it is paint.
Last nights dinner was chicken......lol
Where did you buy the rear cog and spacers? I'm looking to do the same to a 1990's MTB.
I bought from A local store (Rapide) if you don't live in RSA try the biggest online retailer you have access to. In recent times wolftooth and absolute black have also started making cogs and they look amazing. There are even ones available for XD drivers now so you have many options.
However online is probably the only place you'll find stock right now.
@@JustFrana We just had a bike donated to our collective, a Motive Pioneer MTB. I believe it's from the 1990's. I'd prefer to replace the thumb shifters and keep it original, but if it requires front and rear derailleur work, then I am gonna go the single speed route. Where is RSA? I live in California.
@@JustFrana Sorry for the silly question, while not aesthetically pleasing, why not just use the existing chainring and chain and pick a gear in the back? I did this years ago to another bike and it worked okay. Thoughts?
This tutorial is what i need
Can you pls put the Things in the discribtion?
Rear 17t? Front???
I thi k it was A 32T round might have been 34T I can really remember, I'm riding A 16T with 32T oval right now
what chain do you use sir
Single speed chains generally but 8 and 9 speed chains work just as good and are often cheaper
thanks for info
If I did this conversion on my 3 X 6 18 speed mountain bike would the back wheel still freewheel or would the pedals spin when the back wheel rotates? I ask because as much as me and derailleurs don't get on and I'd like to be rid of them I don't want wildly spinning pedals when going downhill.
Yes converting to single speed won't make your cranks fixed (spinning with the wheel in sync)
However most 6spd cassettes don't work with the standard spline interface so you might have a little trouble getting n single cog that'll mount to your existing wheel, just something to keep in mind.
@@JustFrana - Thanks for that. Hunting around on Amazon now.
very interessting thank for your sharing and explanations
It looked as if that was a failure? Judging from the other videos you can not always get away without a chain tensioner.
Nope the setup in the video worked fine for a few weeks until i changed the ratio again , that second setup was perfect length wise that I didn't need a chain tensioner and ran it through till the race with no problems. tension devices will be needed on most bikes that don't have horizontal drop outs but if you can get away with out them it makes the bike just look so much cooler
I've done it successfully once. It was a 12t cog on a 40t chainring, vertical dropout bicycle, no tensioner needed. Its been two years and it still works.
Derelliur is not important
Any probs using a 1/8" singlespeed chain on a 1x11 front chainring?
It being a narrow wide chain ring it should be fine
Bro doesnt wanna show his chain tensioning skill. 🤣
south Africa nice
Great video, thanks
Is there a functional difference between a regular and a single speed chain?
Singlespeed chains wear much slower usually due to thicker plates cause the chain doesn't have to flex to climb up or down cogs
@@JustFrana but the sprockets wear out faster on single/fixed gear if you really ride everyday, like in one year you need new gears compared to 12 or 7 speeds ect.
Why not jus leave it n 1 gear?
Cuz if your gunna do that you are keeping all of the extra weight from the derailleur and the sprockets
Ed Marsh and the 'stetic' factor
Because less weight and single speed is mainly meant for dirt jumpers and it’s not in first gear because the smaller the cog the higher the gear it’s in
Very helpful. Thx.
How many teeths did you installed at rear cassete hub?
17T
@@JustFrana thanks man
Hi can you name the tensioner you’ve used?
the one in this video was made by dmr

Solid video, cheers
Thanks dude
What no chain tensioner? And a second small chain ring with a second consett. What kind of conversion where looking at? I know you got more?
6:15 literally blood in The background
I just use my derailleur as a chain tensioner
nice vid
👍👍👍
This man Must got his bike from India
I don’t like your video, the only reason to watch it was because I don’t know how to install the chain tensioner I guess you don’t know as well
name of background music????
I know this post is a year old by now, and I don't know the name of this song, but I can clearly hear Ros Sereysothea (Cambodian folk singer) mixed in there.
I hope this helps.
Are you South African because of your accent
Indeed I am
The other way around...he has an accent because he is South African :)
The tensioner is not optional is a must otherwise the chain will fall off
cool vid, but 1 thing. the middle is not the best place to to put the sprocket, ideally you want to make your chain line as straight as possible.
Can I take the cog off a bmx couse I don’t own a cog
Is there a difference between normal cycle and single speed
yea, when uphill you will be pushing the bike , lol
Do all mountain bikes with disc rear brakes sprockets come off to make a single speed with just a single rear sprocket
Hey does the chain keep coming off when you pedal because of it being a vertical dropout.
There is 2 possible reasons why your chain is falling off: 1. The chain is too loose. Use a chain tensioner to fix it. 2. The cogs aren't lined up with each other. Make sure they line up so that the chain doesn't fall off.
Hard to remove that kind of single speed.
How do you adjust the tension on the chain I tried to in my is impossible us there a special chain or what 🤔?
Chain tensioner
thanks im search this video
Thanks for the video. What is the benefit of having a tensioner vs. without one?
The point of tension is just to keep the chain on the cog and chainring. You get bikes that have single speed drop outs i.e. the rear wheel can be moved backwards to tension the chain. On normal bikes like mine in the video you'll have to be lucky so that you chainstay length is correct so that when the chain is on the is enough tension to keep it on. If the length is not ideal which is the case with most bikes then you'll fit A tensioner to then keep enough tension on the chain so it does not slip off. I hope this answers your question. I'll do A video about it soon.
Thanks, Looks like I will need a tensioner. I'm converting an old mountain bike with 1x, 2x and 3x chainrings. Would using the 2nd chain ring be the best?
Christopher Divine If its not worn it will work fine 👍
Are from SA or AU?
I'm south African ? What tipped you off ?

my cousins have the same accent
where are you from ?

So I can Convert my MTB to a Road Bike? What would i need to buy?
I'm not sure why you'll want to do that but basically you just need to buy A set of slicks if you have A 26/27.5 . IF you have A 29er normal road bike tyres will ft.
thx man you save my
I change 16 gear freewheel to22 gear freewheel for my. Bicycle for more smooth ride within one $:
Tudo errado
Why can I purchase one of these kits, could you let us know?
Depends on where you're based, if the US there are many on Ebay. If South Africa look at Rapidé. Co. Za
@@JustFrana im in thailand, and these are non existed, crikey
Can you do this to convert a vintage road bike into a fixed geared bike
Some frames can be they are very scarce
Its insulation paint!!
Epic
Are the spacers the same as headset spacers
troll nope they are not, they have a different diameter and they are splined so that it directly installs on the casette hub. Stem spacers are smaller and are not splined to fit on to a cassette
Some people do this every year here in Scandinavia because the roads are salted in the winter to get rid of snow. So its done to save the gears, open gears are ruined by the salt.
Thank you tutoroals brother
Cotic nice man
What's the make and model # of that conversion kit you used?
Rapide tension-R single speed kit
www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-tension-r-single-speed-kit/
yeah forgive me if I don't take tech tips from someone who can't undo bolt the right way.
I was hoping you'd shear off the head of the derailleur cable bolt .....
Lexicon Devil No said you have to like champ...
the kit is quite expansive
Why would you say so ? It may seem expensive because of our crappy exchange rate rate but even at that its quite affordable ( and this cog won't chow your freehub like the other cheaper ones can )
What did you do with that wire at 1 min?
Used it to unhook the masterlink , check the video description for A link to the video that will explain it A bit better. Thanks for watching

NICE VIDEO BROTHER!
Florida Trailrider Thanks Brotha!!
hahaha, what a joke, Specially at the final of the video, i couldnt stop laughing
Bit of a clean and new grease on that freehub wouldn't go a miss
Just out of curiosity what's the point of switching to single speed? Thanks in advance.. sorry for the stupid question but I'm looking into getting a mtb
when you are broke, u sell the parts ,lol
Name of song in video please.... 🙏
I just have one question, why would you do this?
Marko Jerkić simplicity. Especially when you are riding in places with a certain bike that doesnt really require gears. Its easier to maintain
For future vids, dont use half of your video to show people how to take stuff off. We know how to do this
これ意味ある?www
I can't hear you !!!! Speak like a man.....
Rude much?
do I really need a chain tensioner or can I shorten the chain enough to fit with tension from pulling and adjusting rear wheel?
Eddie If you can get enough tension on the chain to wrap around the cog and chainrimg without to much slack then you don't need A tensioner.
thanks man!
Eddie it depends 9n your drop out and if younhave rear suspension, if you bike has suspension it will snap the chain when the frame flexes
Thanks cyrus
yes, you should be able to find at your local bike shop but see if you can find one with A wide foot so it doesn't eat into your freewheel. www.rapide.co.za/product/rapide-singleminded-cog/
