Btw, they didn't use the pen to hide McDonalds logo on sauce packages so that people don't realize it's McDonalds products, they did it because it was part of terms of the 'acquisition'. McDonalds didn't want its trademarks on any of that shit, so Russian cashiers had to scrape off golden arches from their uniform, some people even reported using sanding paper to scrape off the arches from their metal equipment! They also had to rename filet-o-fish, big tasty, royal (quarter pounder with cheese over in the us), big Mac and other trademarked products. But it wasn't because they wanted to distance themselves from McDonalds, it's the other way around.
Not sure given Russia’s current situation they care a lot about American IP law whilst actively committing war crimes

@@castcafe1018 it's not about American IP law, it's about maintaining at least some sort of relationship with foreign businesses. They didn't nationalize foreign businesses and instead made deals with buyback clauses. It is not the best outcome, but the relationships aren't ruined beyond hope, and decision makers in Russia care about that, it's not like everyone here is a crazy hawk that only cares about the number of Ukrainians killed

The funniest meme that came out of the McDonalds situation is connected with the other name that was rumoured to replace McDonalds - 'Fun and Tasty'. It ended up being 'Tasty, period', so people joked that it's because they've realized that it's NOT going to be fun haha

The thing with "Вкусно и точка" - it's basically an old McDonald's, but with a crazy cut menu. Big Macs, Big Tasties and McFlurrys are out of here, names are switched and prices are bigger. Tastes the same, but feels worse.
The new logo is such an absurd topic, people are making fun of it so much on social media. It is way too simple, than it needed to be, IMHO.
And to say about the whole situation on Russian market - many and many brands are trying to work here through different name. But if someone really leaves - our government (lol no) tries to find analogy from our market (PepeLaugh) or from eastern ones (which still can be risky for partners, bc of sanctions). I guess this is how it is on here (in my vision).

I was interested in that first article, about hating your face because of Zoom, but the actual study cited doesn't seem to contain any information about participants' self-image or self-esteem. As far as I see, the findings only show that you're normally more likely to look at the person you're talking to on Zoom, instead of yourself; however, when you're drunk, the amount you look at yourself increases on average.
Just to finish that thought: an increase in the amount you look at yourself could be due to a negative impact on your self-esteem, as the article suggests, but it could also be due to the exact opposite! Maybe when you're drunk you find yourself super attractive and develop a bit of a Narcissus complex. We only know the effect at this point, not the underlying mechanism.

The biggest L this month was for the lactose intolerant, not only you can't get a job in tech but you can't drink a gallon of milk without getting an explosive diarrhea. If you can't process lactose how can you process information required for your job? To filter away the weak I think we should make drinking a gallon of milk an element of every job application, if you can't do it you're just not fit for the job since the evolution has decided you are weak.

McDonalds just doesn't want to keep working in Russia in current situation, but in the selling contract it is mentioned that McDonalds has a right to buy restaurants back in the future and open them back at the same places. In terms of price and menu nothing changed in that Вкусно и точка, it's just McDonalds and everybody understands that
They've lost a couple of items, and had to replace a few ingredients, but for the most part nothing changed. However, management is important, and there's a good chance they're gonna ruin the chain because of their incompetence.
It is natural to think that McDonald's would have a right to buy everything back, but I didn't see any actual evidence... isn't it just a rumor?

@@lordsword4121 It makes the most business sense to go back in and sell their product to 150 million people when it is not damaging to their brand to do so in about a year or so. They have the leverage to strike such a deal, it would be weird if they didn't.
Rebranded mcdonalds just reopened in my city and everything tastes and costs exactly the same. Which is not really surprising because everything was produced locally. Russian KFC is still far better fast food than mcdonalds. And Serbia ot Dragana chain still has the best burgers.
Logo is a mess, but at least it got us a few memes.

As a Russian, i ve actually been to one of those, they have all the same Mcdonalds menu except Mcflurry, BigMac, and a Big Tasty, and btw everyone and i mean it are mocking the brand because it might have been copied from a portugal pet shop company KEKW and just simply cringe to cross out mcdonalds logo on most of the packaging.
