Man, r/place was so cool. I wasn't as obsessed with it as a lot of people were but it was still a really fun, collaborative, artistic event that I just liked watching develop over time. Can't believe how hard Reddit fell off immediately after going public.
They actually didnt even do an event this year. r/counter was an event that the admin rgood created. Thats why there was no announcement for this years april fools, since the actual event got canceled.

tumblr did 'boops' this year where you essentially 'poked' people akin to how facebook used to, but with cat paws across your dash instead. plus, you had a counter for the amount you sent/received, and could unlock 3 pawprint badges to keep on your blog. i think it ended up with a billion boops exchanged--users clearly loved it.
That number is probably inflated a lot by botting (it was very easy to bot). But, hey, at least people cared enough to bot it, which puts it above reddit.

There was this april fools marketing stunt in the Philippines that involved a takoyaki franchise. The AD said that anyone who got a tattoo on their face of the brand will receive 100k pesos (around 2k USD). One guy did do it but tge takoyaki frachise said "sorry bud izza PRANK" and a lot of people got mad and a lot of smaller businesses offered to pay the guy money and for the removal of said face tat.
NOW HERE IS WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING: The prank and the guy who got a face tattoo? All of it was staged. So not only did they lie about the prank, they practically scammed a lot of people and a lot of other business who genuinely wanted to help the guy who got his face tatted only to find out that it was all a lie. What a bunch of scummy people

I was rubbing my left ear at the time and generally thought I messed my hearing up
I listen with only my right earbud at work, it was a normal video as far as I noticed.
Just noticed, I'm pretty sure the Dole sleeping bag is an AI generated image. There's a "peel" attached to nothing, and the zipper is both too big and doesn't actually make sense on the flap it's attached to. Doesn't actually impact much but its interesting to see that that's how they advertised it instead of actually making the thing

Why is the audio so weird in this one? Sounds like it's almost cutting between two takes but one of them is much quieter than the other, but it does this the whole video.
Because that's probably what happened, atrioc did one take, messed up somehow and the editors told him to retake it

Atrioc said on stream its because his editors were using different audio compression settings in their softwares. So that's why. And he said it'll be fixed in the future

My favourite April Fools joke was from a small aviation enthusiasts publication, and they did a bit talking about Boeings new 797 coming out to replace the 737. And as you read further into the article, depending on your airplane knowledge, you'd sooner or later realize the 797 in the photos and description is just a 737 with a 9 photoshopped on it. Great bit, it had really funny fake interviews with airline CEOs being like "does Boeing really think the FAA will fall for this?"
12:00 the thing is. They only have to develop the things for 1 platform and it doesn't matter how it fits into the overall gameplay loop for the game and they don't bugfix. It's not a lot of effort to put into the update

Plus not counting 1.20 the other updates are pretty good if you look at them individually, people just forget that because of the controversies
i love minecraft and i get excited for updates but the game is like 13 years old at this point and not a pvp game that needs to be balanced or anything yet there's still this expectation for updates constantly. i've enjoyed a lot of the updates, but the game is already so sick as it is so idk why people feel like they have a right to be angry that they haven't added every popular suggestion
Its funny to have Atrioc's first youtube-only video in a long while be about April Fools, but it was good! It definitely helps with showing the content to people who maybe aren't familiar with the idea of a video edited from a VOD, where cuts might be sporadic and pacing can be weird. I wouldn't want all content to be this way going forwards but I definitely wouldn't mind more of it, especially if you consider a person who catches every stream also wanting to watch videos when they go up without watching the same thing twice

Caught me off guard with the fact that this wasnt a live stream. I like the live streams alot, but this is also really cool, you get to be a bit more serious, and talking to the camera, instead of the chat just calling you glizzyhands every 30 second (which of course is the peak of comedy as we all know).

The Welch’s lip gloss is an especially bad April fools joke because lip balms and lip glosses flavored like branded snacks already exist! It’s not really silly enough to be a prank/joke.
Like, you can literally buy Gushers-flavored lip gloss already. And all of my friends growing up had the Coca Cola, Fanta, Dr Pepper, etc flavored Lip Smackers. I’ve even seen Kelloggs cereal lip balms!
Corporations have gotten so lazy, they do 2 types of special advertising, during pride month they'll change their logo to a rainbow logo (in western countries only) and at april fools they'll make a drink version of their food and think they're hilarious, of which not a single person was fooled by.

i dunno how much is internet rumours, but Mojang apparently use april fools to actually show off what they have been making/developing, but actual updates are so sparse because Microsoft is wanting the game to remain as normal/simple as possible and don't want a bunch of new stuff being added quickly for like branding reasons
It's because they're trying to kill off the Java player base. They can't microtransaction and advertise to those players without backlash.
They're starving the game out and drip feeding the player bases for that sweet microtransaction money.
Along with that, people don't want insane things to be added to minecraft, mods have always filled that gap, but again, why learn how to use/make mods when you can use mom's credit card to buy a 5 dollar sparkle mount.
The april fools updates tend to be techdemos of upcoming actual features yeah. Like how after we got the infinite dimensions version, it became possible for datapacks to create their own dimensions very easily

Personally I think it's good they don't update the game too much. You wouldnt recognize minecraft in a couple years, if the updates are always as extensive as this april fools update has been. People already cry when something new comes out and say "euugh this looks like a community mod this doesnt fit minecraft". Imagine how much minecraft would change if every update is THIS extensive.
Don't get me wrong, I think they're still pretty slow on the updates they are promising, but I wouldn't like if Minecraft changed too much.

I really liked the announcement that was made for the game satisfactory. They said they first wanted the game to be released on the Ouya, but scraped the plan because they couldn't find one. As an alternative the game will now be released on switch where it runs with something like 'smooth 7 fps'.

Minecraft April fools updates are always jam packed with stuff because it’s the only time the devs get actual freedom to do what they want.
Microsoft knows they have a cash cow and are extremely careful with what they add to the game to make sure they don’t change the experience too much. This leads to devs having to jump through a crazy amount of hoops to add anything new, as every change needs to get approved and reapproved before making it into a real update.

About the discord ads: you can just go to your settings and disable them showing up permanently and it gives you free stuff for streaming the game a few minutes so I honestly don’t mind them
there were a couple non corporation ones, i like competitive apexes subreddit becoming rating apex predator's like cheetahs and stuff. Livestream fail also became northernlion only which was a good bit

Just a note to the editor as I think this is (at least) the second time it has happened; the audio between certain cuts sometimes gets much quieter. It seems to only affect Atrioc, the music usually stays the same. Maybe it is a mic issue? Seems more so that it may be an audio balancing issue however.
