The UNTOLD Truths of The Daniel Defense H9 Pistol

- The Daniel H9 is an all new striker fired pistol from Daniel Defense. Many people will say it’s a rebranded Hudson H9 but it’s far different than that pistol while still sharing some similarities. Stay tuned throughout the review to see what we had to say but let’s cover the facts.

The Daniel Defense H9 has made quite a splash in the market and is a unique option. Whether or not it can unseat the well established striker fired guns on the scene, that remains to be seen. It’s an all steel and aluminum frame pistol. Think a G19 slide on a double stack 1911 frame with a lower bore axis. It has a lot going for it in a crowded pistol world.
Good capacity, great sights, lacks a good optics mounting capability with no cowitness, above average trigger and feels great in the hand. How does it shoot? It shoots very well, better than most. It’s it worth the high price? That’s debatable, but let us know your thoughts! Regardless the H9 from Daniel Defense is an EDC option for some or just a cool talking piece in your collection. We are happy DD decided to resurrect the H9!

I saw a video of a guy singing this pistols praises, he accidentally left a Malfunction in the video during editing and I asked him why he didn’t mention the malfunction.. He said that it was ammo related and not the pistol.. Why wouldn’t he mention he had ammo problems in the review then? Seems like a lot of shilling and straight up BS going in this this gun.. I own 2 DD ar’s a DD 5 ar10 and a v7, fantastic guns but this pistol is so over hyped and underwhelming it kinda hurts my heart..
Definitely some of that going on. It also doesn’t shoot that great. Shoots good and better than some of its competitors but not a huge difference
Not my thrill !
Saw this and know who you’re talking about. Def receives money from DD
@@JBlakeS23 He received at least a free gun, also I think DD is a giant in military contracts and in the AR game in general I think ppl definitely want to kiss up to them in hopes of receiving more guns in the future..
I’ve had no issues with mine, shoots softer than other pistols I have that size, returns to zero quicker (not crazy amount, but quicker), I have had no issues with out of battery or failure to load a round, I have shot Herter’s, Winchester white, S&B and some unknown bulk ammo I got in a bag. I totally understand that is my experience with this one sample
Even without the problems, I can't figure out why someone would buy this over the Springfield Echelon.
I know we certainly wouldn’t do that!
Just like there rifles, not worth the money
It feels like that
Held on in store and immediately felt the Beavertail issue! Great honest review
Knew I wasn’t feeling something unique to me!
I posted about that on some forums and I was told that I was a liar, and it has a perfect grip. I feel like Daniel Defense didn't even test this thing with human hands, it's such an obvious flaw.
I wound up hand filing mine, and now it's a little bit better, but I'm still annoyed about it.
@madcatjoe the sharp edge on the beavertail where it meets the grip at the top is fairly obvious and with a proper high grip it digs into my hand.
Exactly. It's painfully obvious, and missing it shows a lack of attention
I bought this as soon as it was shipped by Daniel to my area about a month ago, put less than 50 rounds through it and the firing pin broke… it broke from dry firing, which is interesting for a pistol made after the 80’s. I have dry fired berettas and glocks tens of thousands of times without issue, the Daniel made it through about one hundred. I know the instructions mention using snap caps to avoid “premature wear” but this is just pathetic and now I don’t trust it. It’s been shipped back to the factory
Wow! That is no good! I dry fire all my striker fired guns and to hear that is terrible. Thanks for sharing!
Dry firing my Canik sf elite right now 😮 damm Daniela defense need to step they game up 😂
I think the Cz Shadow 2 compact is a better bang for your buck
Winner winner! Haven’t shot that pistol yet but it definitely would be
I love my S2C. I have a short clip out on RUclips
Over a month ago I was trying to find an honest review like this one. I wish I could have seen this review before ordering one. I really wish I would have just bought one or even two M&Ps now. Thank you for a great review! Also, it's the first time seeing your channel and definitely subscribing.
Glad you saw it now and found us! Stay tuned lots more coming up!
Thanks , you saved me from making a $1300 mistake. I can buy a Shadow Systems DR920 war poet for less.
For sure!
Great video - thank you for talking about this issue. I was worried I was the only one having this issue, my video is going up today as well. Mine is going back to DD after over 200 rounds - when I spoke with them yesterday, they told me it's an issue they have resolved. It was apparently an initial batch that went out with a polishing issue in the chamber. I'll be very interested to see how it does when I get it back.
I agree on the recoil - it doesn't have less, and might actually have more felt recoil than other similar platforms honestly. I do think for me it returns to zero faster than others, and the recoil doesn't bother me so I think it shoots really well for me. I had the same issue initially with the beaver tail, but I either adjusted my grip or got used to it and it has been fine for me recently. Good luck with yours, hopefully DD gets this resolved quickly, as I think they otherwise have a solid pistol on their hands.
Thanks for sharing and hope you get yours taken care of!
Mine had the same issue. I don't think its a chamber polishing issue. At least on mine, rounds would hang up as they are trying to slide up under the extractor. There is a channel on the opposite side of the slide from the extractor which isnt cut very well, so rounds hang up right there
@@aSportishOne I just saw a channel talking about his keyholing.
Simple fix. I did not have this issue. I runs like a clock and is extremely accurate.
I have seen a lot of videos with that return to battery issue. I luckily have not had that issue and have shot 1000 rounds through it. My issue with gun is optic plates or lack there of , irons seem to shoot low when you get to distance. And seems to run super hot after 3 mags. I personally love it.
That’s great! Glad you like it!
Definitely ! It does point low , I experienced it and two others I had try it did too
Have you shot paper with it to see if it keyholes? Alot of people I see review these only shoot steel and at least one gun keyholes and the company seems to know about the guns problems
My Son just cancelled his order for the H9. Daniel Defense didn't give him any blow back. Bottom line, never buy the A model. This pistol will probably been excellent down the road, but it's gonna need some tweaking.
I’ll stick with my g19 and g23 for both still cheaper. Thanks for the heads up. I’ve only watched 2 reviews on this and both had malfunctions.
Good choice!
I’m in California so I didn’t really have much choice. On that note the DD probably isn’t an option anyway because I’m in California but I feel a lot better knowing it’s not that great.
I’ve only heard bad things
Lots of them
Also forgetting this is supposed to be a duty use firearm and it comes with a fiber optic and not a night sight wtf. Also the slide is about 1.25” longer however the actual important part when carrying is the thickness and handle length. Its handle is the same length of a g19 and it’s skinnier but I’ve seen a lot of bad so far. More bad than good unless you’re factoring in shot show where that’s just first impressions
Yeah I’m not worried about sight, especially considering in a duty application you will have a weapon light or handheld and the fiber optic works very well.
I hope no one would use this gun as a duty firearm as there are a ton of better proven options out there.
Lots of builders, autos, trucks, guns etc are building junk, how sad, want ur money but reliability and durability is lacking,, across brands.
I think we are all on a quest to find something better than what we already have. I have Glock pistol or pistols that take Glock parts and magazines. It’s not because I think Glock is the end all be all. It’s mainly because I don’t want to have to buy a bunch of different magazines and holsters, and if anything breaks, I have the parts on hand to fix it. I know the gun will go bang every time I pull the trigger. I guess my overall point is that a 3 or 5 hundred dollar gun will get the job done as well as a $1300 gun, and the difference in performance or recoil management we all seem to be chasing is negligible at best, and in this case is actually worse. I think it really comes down to settling on a platform and training with it so when you need it, you can be successful.
All excellent points! Thanks for the well thought out comment!
I just hate it when comments make so much sense.🙃
Great review, as always. The honesty is appreciated. We are having a similar "sharp edge/pressure point" issue with the new Walther 5" SF Match. Really uncomfortable, and just like with the H9, no one else appears to be having this issue, or talking about it. Maybe we got a bad one.
Really? That’s interesting! We should be getting a steel frame here shortly from Walther, so I’ll be curious to see. will definitely mention it if that’s the case!
Thanks for watching!
Hmm, needs refinement for sure. Most of the youtube guys have been very PC about saying any bad things. TFBtv was a little more forthright, kinda. I used to compete with custom 1911's and I always had the policy of breaking in steel guns with 500 rounds minimum to really work wear it in. Having said that, 2024 without co-witness sights and that hideous non-blend of the beavertail to frame for that money means I will check back on it in about 5 years. Thanks for being straight up.
Absolutely. The blend or lack of the beavertail is pretty obvious on them. It’s also very sharp. I have no issues with break in, but it’s not tight like a 1911/2011 it’s looser like a Glock.
I rented an H9 early on, and I wasn’t at all impressed. Yeah, there was less muzzle flip, but muzzle flip also tends to dissipate some recoil, so I felt more recoil than with a similar sized Glock or Sig. I found the accuracy, which admittedly could have been me not used to the straight back recoil or a dirty rental gun, to be poor. The guy behind the counter at the range asked my opinion, and he said that he heard similar complaints from most of the people who shot it. IMHO, there are much better options in pistols that are much less expensive.
That is all true!
Great video. QQ: did you oil it up? When shipped they come dry and I always give them a good cleaning prior to doing my initial shots at the range. I haven't had any issues and luckly don't have the beavertail issue based on my grip.
It was dry when we got it but yes I oiled/lubed it. I used Lucas oil products gun stuff on all of my guns. We lube every gun before making a video with them.
I’m surprised you don’t have a sharp edge/corner at the top of the beavertail as I haven’t found one yet which doesn’t have it.
Happy to hear you don’t have issues tho!
Great review. The H9 seems more of a novelty/niche gun suffering from 1st gen hiccups.
Appears to be that way
Yup. I'm gonna wait till 2nd Gen.
@@Philmoscowitz unfortunately, how many second Gen guns have you bought that you wish you hadn't?
I bought it as a cool novelty... and ended up loving it so much I plan to start carrying it edc. It's a little heavy but it's amazing how much that doesn't matter on a slim gun
@RockinRack good to hear!
Where the beavertail meets the frame ate the heck out of my thumb just like you said. It’s worth about $700 at its current design. The slide never dropped properly into battery on mine either.
Our thoughts exactly!
I saw one guys video where his gun keyholes EACH shot and BADLY. No excuse from such a well known company and a 1300 dollar price tag.
Right!
No you are spot on, idk what the hype is about this gun but it's not good. It feels awkward, looks awkward, shoots average at best, trigger isn't great, and is overpriced for the striker fired category it's in. I've shot it, and it's a hard pass for me.
Yeah not sure, for about 700 bucks it’s a good pistol, but it’s lacking in several areas at a premium striker fired price tag
@HuntFishShootChannel right, the only thing it might beat is a stock glock lol. But any shadow system, pdp, or canik rival is just better for far less
The trigger is mushy. Looks cool like a robocop gun but not functional.
True
They were smokin crack when they thought of the msrp.worth 400 at max
Agreed
While I like their rifles I am not really sold on these for the price. I got a CZ Sadow 2 compact for less and can probably guaranty it will outshoot and be more controllable than the H9. I mean the Shadow 2 compact feels like it melts into the hand! the trigger is sick -- I know a hammer fired so not apples to apples but for the price point! I like that they are innovating but seems to be a bit over priced for the feature set.
Yeah for the money, no doubt the Shadow 2 Compact would be a better buy!
Cz is better in every way but flat shooting. The h9 does shoot a little flatter than expected for the size. Felt the cz was a little snappy but was also expecting magic from cz lol
I have both the 320x and canik elite combat and they both are better than the H9. Having said that though it is a series 1 version so I expected issues but not with that price tag.
Yes they are
The problem is not content creators getting a gun, it’s what happens when we get a gun plus a check. At that point, it becomes a sponsored, paid for video, and in essence is an advertisement. Money exchange, his hands, the manufacturer generally has creative control and final approval over your video. Some companies are OK with an honest, sponsored video.but plenty of manufactures, especially smaller ones, want you to hide those issues and why I would not work with them.
We have personally never been told to not be truthful, but have been shunned when we reviewed a product and didn’t give it a favorable outcome. But as it turned out our honest review was worth more than hiding faults. I think people can even get paid and still not bend over, but in another way there is a big difference between a review and an overview. Some bug channels do great overviews and even some smaller ones, but they aren’t a review. It’s possible but it’s up to the individual and that persons inner fortitude
$1,300 for a striker fired pistol.. lol .. No thanks I'll take a $300 Dagger
A striker fired gun can cost that much but it needs to be damn good
This thing is grossly over expensive. It should be more in line with other American made striker fired pistols like the Smith & Wesson M&P9 2.0 or the Shadow Systems XR920 around $700-$1000.
Very true!
Glock gets a lot of bad reviews of being out dated. At least I know they’ll run any ammo anytime anywhere.
Very true
Thanks for the clear review! I avoided this on its first run. As you stated, the $800 PDP pro compact buries this pistol in every way!!
For sure!
@@HuntFishShootChannel Would you be able to do a comparison between "old" and "new" TRP's? Keep up the great work!
@@evolution2k6 it’s funny you say that. We don’t have an old TRP but we have a new 5inch model on the way!!!!
This pistol has only bad reviews, get a Glock.
There are some good ones out there but ours was not.
Great honest review. I really want to like this pistol since I think it looks cool and has some good features. Seems like it might have too many negatives for the price point.
Hopefully they make a 1.5 version with some fixes. I've seen some of these issues from other videos. I'd like to see a longer term review to see if and when the reload issues stop.
I mean after 400 rounds it stills has feeding issues. That’s a defect most likely at this point.
I also own an MR920 combat that's also my EDC. Awesome platform
Daniel just released an upgraded NEW Daniel H9 to anyone who wanted the replacement. It has a new barrel, slide, trigger, guide rod assembly, backstrap, and a two-part feed ramp (barrel and frame). I received one, took it to the range, and did not have any issues. It was accurate and comfortable to shoot. Send your DD H9 back for an exchange to fix your broken heart.
Ours has already been back to DD for repair of all that stuff you mentioned.
I fell in love with the Hudson H9 when it first came out. Had a few hundred rounds through mine when I starting hearing about the parts breakages. Sold it, thinking I’d buy another down the line when they fixed the issues. That obviously never happened. I LOVED that pistol. I’d like to love this one. But it has not been fixed apparently and I’m not into spending another $400 over what I spent on the H9 years ago for the same issues.
That is very understandable!
One you tube reviewer had problems with it keyholing. Hopefully it was his sample of one.
maybe. We didn’t have that issue
Great review!
@jerrybrooks7883 thank you!
Safe queen for sure - as much as I’d like to carry it for duty with my DD rifle 😢 I wouldn’t buy it unless there were after market magazines that could work with it as well
There isn’t a chance in any reality this pistol should ever be used for duty. It’s lackluster at best compared to its competitors
I been looking in getting Shadow System MR920 Elite Optic. For $1200 it’s ready to go out of the box.
I would personally pick that that, but if that’s not your thing, I highly recommend the Walther PDP Pro, Or the X Macro from Sig.
I shot a couple mags thru this the guy rented it next to me at the gun range. I had the exact same thoughts. This isn't a carry gun. Maybe home defense/ nightstand gun. It shot nice and accurate for my first time I was impressed. But when he said it was $1300 I said was like nah 😂 🤷🏾♂️ I'd take a shadow systems over this and I'm not a fanboy of them. 🤷🏾♂️
Same feelings and we filmed the MR920P review today. Lighter, softer shooting, flatter shooting and more features, better features for less money. oh and 100 percent reliable
My lgs said this gun wasn’t worth it.
It’s certainly a touch too high!
Always enjoy your honest reviews and thank you for that. It definitely shoots flat in your hands, has the cool looking factor going for it and has potential. Would like to see it up against the Shadow 2 compact and Archon Type B 2nd gen.
I would love to test a shadow 2 compact against it! I’m glad you enjoyed it! 💪
I agree about the Archon. That pistol seems like it offers a lot.
Glock!! All the way fuck DD
Ha it was a rough go for us
I've watched two review videos on that weapon ( one being yours). The first one had the bullets tumbling. You should shoot paper and see if you are getting that also.
It has potential to be a good one but that price kills it for me even when/if they fix they issues.
For sure. We shot a lot of paper most of the shooting we did was paper. No issues with that
Rattlesnake Defense had a major keyhole issue with his H9. Sent it to DD and they sent it back with no info on what they did, if anything to fix it, just a confirm report that it was in fact having that problem. He has sent it back a second time but he seems pretty fed up at this point
I still say that the Springfield Echelon simply got everything right and feels like the love child of Sig, Walther, and Glock. I've never been a Springfield fan, but the Echelon quickly became my favorite duty-centric handgun. The only thing that kept the administrators at my PD from selecting the Echelon as our new duty weapon is the fact that it hasn't built a solid reputation yet. If manufacturers like Springfield and Shadow Systems can give you everything you could want from the factory for the same price or slightly less than major competitors, I don't see any reason to choose Glock or Sig anymore.
The echelon is a great pistol! I think it’s going to build a reputation people can trust. You make all great points!
No its not good lol 1,300 id rather buy a prodigy at same amount .
So would I
H9 is flawed at this point. Im sure DD will get all the issues worked out soon
Hopefully they fix the price issue too
After all the reviews I've seen.. that gun is nothing more than a safe queen or paper weight for the price tag of $1300... seems to be a $500 at best imho.
Agreed!
Over rated like there ar’s…
Definitely something
I tested the Pistole in Orlando at a Shooting Range. I litery wasted 60 Dollars Testing the Pistole! I had the same Problem with the Slide, not just when reloading even when shooting! I would not recommend to buy the Pistole! The Rent Gun had 1000 shoots properly. I think Daniel Defense did a big mistake putting a gun on the market without properly testing it.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
Good and honest review in my imo! I got a original H9 since 3 years, but just maybe 600 trough it. Has got no issues what so ever with it exept aming picture. Its made like a service gun, aming center mass. Would like a DF h9 but will wait to se if its got updated per your suggestions.
Sure thing!
This is 3 months old as I type this, any news or further testing? Word around the internet (of course the net is always right 😂) is that they had a bad batch between a certain number of serial numbers, but it's heresay until definitve proof comes up. I just got one for testing as of yesterday and plan on running the dog piss out of it. Hoping for the best.
Other than I have little to no interest in ever shooting this gun again and it’s a flop? Not much
Yall got got. Ugly weapon. I been seeing all kinda malfunction. I'd rather buy 2 glock 19x than anyone's NEW RELEASE. Matter fact, shop open up in 3 hrs and ima go buy 2 more glock 19x to add to all the glock 19x I already got. Thanks.
We have seen many new releases do and work just fine. This isn’t one of them and it’s a release for an EDC centric gun with issues. That’s unacceptable. We agree with you! Thanks for watching!
Just from the looks I wouldn't buy this gun and I'm sure you would agree that the malfunction could be just that gun but if I paid 1300 for this gun and had those problems I would be pissed. Really thought DD could have came with a better gun.
Agreed!
Great review. I wanted the Hudson H9, but it had issues. I never bought one. I want a Daniel H9, but I won’t buy it with the slide lock/reload issues. They need the fix the slide lock/reload issue and have the optics plates in stock before I spend $1300. Thank you for your honesty.
Agreed! Happy to help!
Always absolutely love and respect your honesty. Keep keeping it real. Great video
Of course! Thanks for the support and watching! 💪
Theyre taking alot of flak on this pistol
Mainly vs $$$$
Its a prototype
Many others also needed a few newer updated versions befire they hit the sweet spot.
On saying that, yes for that price range one would expect it had been thoroughly tested. No sharp edges etc.
Failure to go fully into battery, many new guns have a similar issue and it wears itself in after a few hundred rounds.
It shoots extremely flat and i dare say a very effective firearm in the right hands.
Thats why we watch you guys putting them through their paces.
Id say put a 1,000 rds through it like other gun reviews and then a follow up review.
I bet all the teething issues are gone.
How about holsters compatibility?
Great job 💪🏼🇺🇸 though I have to disagree
It’s not a prototype. It’s a full production pistol marketed and dubbed as a great EDC weapon. Thats an issue. It shoots flat, not extremely flat. Shoot a comped macro, MR920P, XR920P or an Sig AXG legion, those shoot extremely flat and flatter than this.
We shot 400 rounds for this video and it still has issues with feeding and the sharp edge for a non blended beavertail is an issue.
It’s a good pistol and even without issues let’s say perfect out of the box, it’s overpriced when compared to comparable options and features on the market.
Sig axg is NOT it right now... ive sent mine back multiple times with no resolution. Out of the box the fcu was fouling causing a grindy trigger pull. The recoil spring/guide had to be replaced because how hard it caught in the middle. My other issue was magazine do not like being slapped in...
First return fcu replaced as well as spring, solved both those problems.. honestly new trigger is ungodly amazing, i love it.. so smooth, great wall, perfect pull weight. Cycled smooth.
Magazine... if i perform a normal reload i usually over insert the magazine and the top of the shell hits the ejector pushing it to the side.. if I attempt to cycle the firearm in this condition accidentally it falls completely free from the frame, unless i take the time to pull the baseplate down so it locks in its proper position.
IMO the magazine issue makes the AXG not carry worthy..
Sent it back, Sig told me the magazine is sitting properly... i havent shot it since and gave up. It has less than 200 rounds on it and sits in a drawer i never look at. Biggest 2a purchase regret... walnut handles are beautiful though.. lol
Want a 365 legion but ill wait like 6 years till that gets 'proven'
Wish I could say I am exaggerating the issues.. wish the mag worked cause i love everything else about it. Would grind down the mag heigh, but it would still overshoot whether it hits the ejector or not, not to mention compromise of the magazine integrity.
It sounds like you have a problematic pistol and hope you get it taken care of!
Feels amazingly similar to my 1911 Officer’s Model with some exceptions:
-No exposed hammer
-Long reach to the trigger
-Same grip width but 15 rds rather than 7
-Less (slightly) muzzle flip from the low bore axis
-Heavy trigger pull but crisp break
-No malfunctions in 800 rds so far
-No more accurate than anything else
-Up to a 90 day wait for your free optic plate of choice
-No threaded muzzle
-If you limp-wrist it, she will let you know
-If you “point with your thumbs” grip it like a Glock, she will let you know
-Has ate everything I’ve fed her with no issues
-Nose heavy
-Green fiber optic front sight, plain black rear sight
-Worth every bit of $700
Great breakdown
In my opinion this gun couldn't be any more boring and unexciting, I wouldn't even pay $500 for it. What would you pick this or a CZ Shadow 2? I know it would be the CZ if it were me.
Oh I would pick the CZ over this in a heartbeat and without question
Mine is excellent.
Great!
the next highpoint
No it’s not that bad 😂
buy a q4 not an h9
Hell yeah!
It works better if give it a good solid smack on the back of the slide to get it into battery? Like a hi-five with your recent overpriced purchase.
That’s how ours works, slightly more demoralizing than that though 😂
Despite the claims of all the work they put into improving the original H9, you always have to be worried about a first generation product coming off the line, especially when it's a brand new field for the company. I think a lot of these issues I'm hearing about with the early production models can get fixed and adjusted in factory.
Yes I’m sure they can
There’s another video of a guy finding that it key holed out of the box. He sent it back, got the pistol back, and still key holed
That’s wild!
Your failure to feed is recognized by Daniel. A batch of pistol got by QC with an out-of-spec chamber polishing issue. Contact them for a new barrel. It's not the end of the world.
Thanks boss. We have it under control. Still is over priced.
I do not own a gun that malfunctions. DD should not have released this firearm. They have a reputation to uphold. Maybe they should stay in their lane. I'm sure they will get it right eventually, but I will not be a customer at that price point. They are not yet even as good as a ton of $5-600 guns that are out there.
All fair points!
Definitely not worth $1300! The sights are off as well. They mislead you to shoot low. Some people have also reported keyholing.
I agree with you on the price. No issues with keyholing for us. I will disagree with you about the sights, they don’t mislead you to shoot low. The gun shot what I was aiming at and it uses 320 sights. Equal Height, equal light and you will hit what you are aiming at.
I could be wrong, but it seems like extractor issues - like the extractor doesn't snap over the cartridge rim... like the spring is too stiff. When you strike the end of the slide harder, it does so. It's disappointing considering its maker and the price.
Who knows what it is, it’s got issues.
It’s not just influence. When a company gives you the firearm it may have been triple checked before delivery. Not so with the one you pick up at the store.
Sure it could have been, we have been given plenty of guns, but that doesn’t always mean the company does anything extra. Could some? Sure they could and I don’t blame them. Regardless of that, it up to the individual to be honest about their experience and how the firearm performed. That is owed to the viewer.
Shoot it at paper with different kinds of ammo and from different distances to see if it keyholes like the one guys gun did after he sent it back to them and they supposedly fixed the issues.. still was keyholeing at like 10 yards and the company seems to know about the problem.. if i had the money i would buy one of their rifles but i would never buy one of these pistols.. broke single parents buy palmetto state..lol
We shot it at paper quite a bit without that issue. Daniel Defense reached out to us about the pistol to send it back
Commenting before watching but I’ve seen a few people with keyholing issues. Honestly the smith and Wesson m and p metal is more appealing to me.
It is to me as well. Thanks for watching!
Mine doesn’t have any problems. Just wish red dot plates were available now.
Very comfortable to shoot. Trigger breaking in but could be lighter.
Glad to hear it!
Did he just say that the H9 underperformed every other pistol he’s shot in the last two years? Wow.
Glad you caught that
So it’s the same quality as the original version basically. What a disappointment
Unfortunately
Ok cool I agree the Shadow has a better texture. Put a Jonny Glock trigger in it you will love it .
👍
I had a similar issue with it going into battery. Seems that rounds were catching while sliding into the channel opposite of the extractor. Polished it up a bit and its great. I was expecting bigger hiccups than that on a first gen gun. That being said, the whole optic plate thing does irk me quite a bit
It seems if you bought one of these off the shelf, issues are present. Which is unfortunate. The optics system and how it’s done, could have been designed better.
1300 for that plastic poo poo ...Oh my ....nono
It’s all metal but still on the high side
Great video I appreciate your honesty about the pistol and giving people a heads up on what to look for or naybe expect from this firearm 🙂👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Always! Thanks David!
Are you running it with minimal lubrication like a Glock or more like a firearm with tighter tolerances? Not saying that is the reason it is not going into battery with a full magazine.
It’s lubed appropriately. Its tolerances are the same as the rest of the striker fired field.
Can I ask what jackets you’re wearing in the video the black and the green one they’re nice
Yeah for sure!
The black jacket when shooting outdoors is a Vertx Integrity
The FDE color Quarter zip is a Durango pull over from Pnuma Outdoors! We have a discount code for than which saves 20 percent off and it’s HFS20
@@HuntFishShootChannel thank you !
@SirAwesome5auce you are welcome!
Honestly.. There should be no plates. Why can't industry just settle on one footprint already and let us mount red dots directly to the slide.
That would be ideal but too late for that lol
I held this pistol two days ago and I’ve been obsessed. It’s the pistol that can get me away from revolvers why? Well because it has a 1911 like trigger the reset is extremely quick. The bore is really low it’s slim, while still feeling incredible in the hand. The last thing is it’s a double stack 9mm and 9 is way cheaper than 38 and 357.
It’s actually really different and can maybe cause a shift in the industry. So I really hope that it does well and they fix the problems.
That’s great to hear! Thanks for sharing!
@@HuntFishShootChannel you’re welcome. I forgot to mention that I liked your format and calm demeanor I’m subscribed.
@olvera6710 thank you! I appreciate that and thanks for the sub!
I have had 0 issues with mine and love it for the same reasons. I don't get the people who act like it's like every other gun.... I can't think of a double stack 1911 grip striker fired gun.
@RockinRack it is indeed the only 1911 esque grip striker fired gun.
Have people been saying its good? Cause I've kind of been hearing that there are quite a few issues.
Yes they were. That was until people bought them with their own money.
When I was looking for an EDC I researched the Canik MC9. I saw A LOT of issues with failure to go into battery and the mag not dropping clear. I kept researching and Canik seemed to have resolved those issues at the manufacturer level. I finally bought one of the latest releases and it has worked flawlessly. The point being hopefully DD will do the same because otherwise it looks like a fine weapon ( tho I agree you could probably get comparable for less ). If you want to love this weapon just give them some time and hopefully they fix the issues.
The difference is this costs 1300 dollars and even if it performs flawlessly it doesn’t have enough value to be a 1300 dollar pistol in our opinion
@@HuntFishShootChannel that’s why I am a Canik fan. In my personal opinion you can’t beat their quality/dollar ratio but I try not to sound like I’m hating on any weapon.
Question for you - I have this same issue with failing to go into battery, and it even happens with only 1 or 2 rounds loaded on mine. Another issue I demonstrate in my video is that it is unusually difficult to manually extract a chambered round. I haven't had this issue with any other pistol before. I don't know if it's related to the out of battery issue or a separate issue with the extractor. Have you noticed this on yours? Our serial numbers appear to be very close to one another, so probably the same batch.
If you manually unload the gun with a round in the chamber is hangs up. We noticed that during the review! Seems we are having similar issues. We filmed this a week ago and still have the feeding issues.
@@HuntFishShootChannel Have you contacted DD for Warranty service yet? I spoke with them yesterday and they seem to believe they have identified and resolved the issue - sounds like I'll be getting a new barrel due to a bad batch of polished chambers (likely the same issue you're having since our serials are within a couple hundred of each other). I'm not confident that will fix the manual extraction issue, but we'll see what they say. I'm shipping mine out today.
@ChestersHobbies in time we may, I’m sure they will reach out first.
@@HuntFishShootChannel Ahhh... right on. I'm not that big yet, so I reached out on my own lol
@ChestersHobbies you don’t have to be big! No worries! You will see these companies pay very close attention to videos on the tube 😂
I would only pay $1300 for a carry gun if it came with night sites.
Fair enough.
I havent even shot mine yet or got it from my ffl yet and i already want to sell it now after watching this video... hopefully i can get a decent chunk of my money back for it
Looks like it's a guide rod slipping around issue. The way they have it locked in is not a good design. I'm also thinking it needs a slightly stronger recoil spring.
@@1014pglock guiderods move around too.
I've said this for years....never buy the first gen of any product, whether it's a gun, an electronic, car, etc. Let others find the problems then pick yours up once they've been resolved. People just cannot seem to be patient and it can bite you.
First Gen things can be done right and is the H9 really a first gen?
@@HuntFishShootChannel Of course they can, but if a product is gonna have an issue, it's gonna be at the beginning of the run.
I still think a chunk port or small comp on a lighter gun makes more sense than a heavy gun to tame recoil.
Sure does, wait until your MR920P review drops on Friday
Paid for the name. Send it back let them fix it. If they can't then it's useless.
It was not an enjoyable experience for us.
Its a Daniel Defense weapon what else needs to be said.....overpriced and overrated.
It’s feeling that way with this one
Great honest review, thank you sir
Absolutely! Thanks for watching!
I can appreciate the honesty and nuance here. You give credit and criticism where it's due.
thank you! Appreciate it!
What a bone shill video on dd guns who would of known there a honest consumer.
🤣 there are some honest ones out there but no doubt it’s had some glorification without the substance to back it up
Never buy the first year production run unless you want to volunteer to be QA. It usually takes at least a year to get all the kinks out. If this was a new line for them they're still working on improving their process.
depends on who is producing the product, it can be done right and this one was not.
@@HuntFishShootChannel You be surprise these days it's all about lean manufacturing, parts are subcontract out. Assembly on demand using people from other lines to meet production schedules. Without good QA and the willingness to hold that standard over the bean counter something will give. Just look at Boeing. And you're right this wasn't done right at this point it's just a safe queen. At the end of the days it's your job to verify your gun really functions reliably. How good or bad it works for someone else really doesn't matter.
1300 for a strike fire never
