The saddest part about John’s depression and heroin addiction is how you can see how much he loves life but is haunted by the negativity this world brings along with it’s beauty. I always interpreted his talks about “ghosts” as being the vast range of varying thoughts we all have in our conscience. Some of them are there telling us what’s good, beautiful, and inspiring in the world. And others are there to make us despair in whats terrible, unfair, and evil with this world. John, like all of us, is a sponge to the world around him; and when he’s thinking philosophically (especially on drugs like heroin), those thoughts manifest themselves in very powerful ways that, to a person as depressed as John was, appears as evil ghosts telling him he is discovering important horrors in the world while destroying his body to get there. I think these powerful interactions with his inner subconscious are why he still believes those voices manifest through him even today. And I suppose to a person as well engrossed in drugs as John, these subconscious thoughts would appear as very real entities to him; even afterwards still believing in them due to how powerful those experiences felt. Those feelings probably come back whenever he hears those voices in his head, hence why he still describes them as ghosts. For all I know, all those drugs really did get him in touch with ghosts, but from a purely scientific perspective, it appears those ghosts have a more symbolic representation of the subconscious made manifest through the intense drugs. That’s the thing about drugs like heroin and meth, they give an epiphany-like sense of discovery to seeing your subconscious hallucinogenic mind produce manifestations of your inner thoughts. Poor John in his depressed state must have seen many evil spirits from inside himself. It’s interesting how his monologues and recorded interviews over the years seem to show a clear parallel between how his spirits were telling him to continue and how those spirits also seemed to be giving him self justification. It’s almost like those spirits were in fact just John’s inner subconscious battling over seeking recovery and staying a recluse.
Dude this was very well said almost as if you yourself have experienced those dark entities that drugs such as heroin bring on especially when the depression that heroin causes kicks in. I remember being in High School and getting into Johns solo work. I love it. Way different than the Chili peppers and you can hear the influences really show, in his own way. When I bought Niadra, I thought it was disturbing, but great at the same time. I remember cruising with friends listening to his solo albums/chili peppers. Good times and some aren't even alive anymore. To record water for 10 days was great as well... All of them really and each record sounds different
@@blackfeminism obviously he’s good at guitar because any professional is pretty good but yeah compared to a guy like frusciante his simple style makes him seem worse. I get where you’re coming from though. It more about what fits the song. If Kurt was shredding in a grunge song (which admittedly worked the time he was trolling evh) it wouldn’t have fit as well as strumming power chords.
This John is unrecognisable from today. I’m not the greatest RHCPs fan but I do think he’s a genius. And their career completely changed with him. Not to disrespect Josh of course. I guess I just love a fuck up genius..
John’s solo work is excellent in its own right and also a perfect dark counterbalance to the “happy drug funk” music that Peppers are so great at making. Once he got past his brush with death and began life again, his solo work became increasingly great. *The Empyrean* is one of my favorite albums.
Well he also had almost all of his teeth replaced because of the decay. A new set of teeth will change the way the jaw sits, and the cheeks and lips and areas around the nose because they hug the teeth in a different way. So yeah I think mainly his facial differences are because of the dental work.
He got something close to teeth reconstruction and I've read that he fell on his face walking downstairs during a drug stupor. I'm very glad that John Frusciante is alive and keeps on doing what he loves.
Damn 94 he was a hard-core addict, so sad to see, but in contrast to today it's night and day! I saw him shine on Wednesday in Manchester he played his heart out and it was beautiful!
Yes, need Pt 2. This was exceptionally well done, deep and spiritually involving. The Syd Barrett parallels IMO are obvious. But it's the happy version of that tale. I remember that '94 footage. I think it was Dutch TV. Horrific how his left hand was swollen up from missing. It was funny/sad when he talks about the notebooks filled with film scripts and math, and it is literally gibberish. I only say 'funny' because I have those too. I didn't know that he lost his teeth too. He is a handsome dude btw. And man, can he play. I do think that he is one of those cats who writes best with a partner. Some guys are best on their own; some thrive on partnership.
Awesomeeeee Awesomeeeee awesomeeeee. I love the chili peppers and I have a special place in my heart for John. His music has gotten me through very tough times. Thanks for making this. I subscribed. Peace love and respect
the whole thing about this is that john is a instrumental genius. as talented as anthony, flea, and chad were, they should seriously listen to john if he had an idea.
It's another 'pity party' for John Frusciante, talented absolutely and provided while he stuck it out. Strong? no. He was there.. left..came back again, and left again. Like, if you can't hang, go your own way and we will remember you. The RHCP have survived without him.
The part he mentioned about the need to make To record only water for ten days , is exactly how I feel I have to go through before becoming ready to really go for where I would like me creating my art...

He was a huge part of all their best albums.
He is such an interesting character.
One of my favourite guitarists of all time .
Thanks
This was really well done. Those 1994 interviews....so happy he escaped
Are you still planing to make the part 2? Cause this part was an amazing job
I second this motion
I could listen to and learn about John forever. I third!
Jon Frusciante is crucial to the Chili peppers sound!
Yes come on...did you stand on the bridge at black oak. Did your shits hang in the bathroom? Talking about spiritually Speaker
Parlamentality Polly...no cracked up me.
All of them really and each record sounds different
this was really amazing. hope you find the time to finish this series. his solo albums that came after this are master pieces in my opinion
Much love and admiration for John!
This is great. Hoping that Part 2 is in the works. Thanks for creating this.
John Frusciante and Kurt Cobain both are my favorite guitarist.
Same bro
@@blackfeminism and he has more plantimum records than most people
@@blackfeminism obviously he’s good at guitar because any professional is pretty good but yeah compared to a guy like frusciante his simple style makes him seem worse. I get where you’re coming from though. It more about what fits the song. If Kurt was shredding in a grunge song (which admittedly worked the time he was trolling evh) it wouldn’t have fit as well as strumming power chords.
Mother's Milk was everything when it dropped, the timing was perfect
And Chad goes back to the same local music store that helped him in the day and does a drum clinic every year. Cool guy! Huber-Breese
Dude this intro is freakin amazing, put together really well!
amazing video man please pt2
That was great! Really enjoyed that. Part 2 would be class! John is such a cool dude, glad he came out the other side!
I think the reason why John is still around is Flea. He took care of him when he looked like someone out of The Walking Dead and never let him down.
This John is unrecognisable from today.
I’m not the greatest RHCPs fan but I do think he’s a genius.
And their career completely changed with him.
Not to disrespect Josh of course.
I guess I just love a fuck up genius..
Breaking the girl harmony vocal at 6:48 is sick
Savior and Velvet Glove are immaculate. His work on the Brown Bunny Soundtrack also.
John’s solo work is excellent in its own right and also a perfect dark counterbalance to the “happy drug funk” music that Peppers are so great at making.
Once he got past his brush with death and began life again, his solo work became increasingly great. *The Empyrean* is one of my favorite albums.
Finally something on John that's edited well
His face literally changed after heroin
no shit.
It went from more round to skeleton to a more sharp jaw line
@@ProdFayon Crack too. That stuff rots your body away. Especially if your injecting and smoking it like Johnny was.
Johns Solo stuff is really on another level
READY FOR PART 2!
nice doc btw. Well done. Really ready for part 2!
Everything great about RHCP is all because of you John
No
Really enjoyed your documentary ... Very much looking forward to part 2. Thank you so much for your time and efforts !!!
JF puts true emotions into the guitar notes. That's the true art of guitar playing in my opinion.
Great job with the documentary.
Thanks.
John is a true artists
was

Man, Frusciante from 1990, eager. Frusciante in 1994, hit. So inspiring that he came out of that and is still creating such great tunes.
Nice to see Jonn give props to the track "Carnage Visors" by the Cure
It’s been almost a year. I really would love part 2
Awesomeeeee Awesomeeeee awesomeeeee. I love the chili peppers and I have a special place in my heart for John. His music has gotten me through very tough times. Thanks for making this. I subscribed. Peace love and respect
Thank you for this. Hard to watch at times, but now I understand, mind blown!
Looking forward to part two . Great work :)
Is part 2 done? ..cause part 3’s coming up!
the whole thing about this is that john is a instrumental genius. as talented as anthony, flea, and chad were, they should seriously listen to john if he had an idea.
It's another 'pity party' for John Frusciante, talented absolutely and provided while he stuck it out. Strong? no. He was there.. left..came back again, and left again. Like, if you can't hang, go your own way and we will remember you. The RHCP have survived without him.
Thank you for being so open you are very inspiring 💓
The part he mentioned about the need to make To record only water for ten days , is exactly how I feel I have to go through before becoming ready to really go for where I would like me creating my art...
very nice video! great work, can't wait for the 2nd part with the stadium arcadium and empyrian aera! great pick of interview sections!
\o/ That was sensational! Great video, thanks so much for creating and sharing this. Hopefully we'll see your Part 2 someday.
I am so happy he has rejoined RHCP.
Really enjoyed that, hope part 2 makes it someday 🤞.
Flea is wearing the John Entwistle skeleton suit. That’s awesome Flea is a fan of “THE OX”
15:25 all y'all that hate Dave Navarro, remember that this happened. Because things would be different if it never did
Nick K - J12U I love Dave! Always a fan of John, but I have so much love for Dave and everything he’s been through❤️
Why tho lol he just bought drugs
Dave Navarro > John Frusciante. Not just as a guitar player but also just all around as a person.
Also, Dave bright us Aeroplane and I like that song. Oddly, I love it when Josh played it!
Great job. The middle is hard for me to watch...he was in such rough shape.
Joe Toe - I saw more of that same interview a long time ago and never wanted to see or hear him such a wreck again. I keep thinking how the hell could you film that and not try to help? It’s just heartbreaking.
@@chipsterb4946 Hi there, I agree. I hate to think it might have been exploitative, but it does feel that way. Such a gem of a person and I'm so glad he survived. The only thing I wonder is if people (e.g., the band?) did try to intervene multiple times to no avail or...I don't know. Maybe there is more to this than we know. But really awful, for sure.
Amazing documentary! Is there a part 2? So happy for John. Such a great musician and all around cool cat❤️🙏🙌
John's a Legend. RHCP are Legends!
I’d love to see everything from the by the way and stadium Arcadium days.
Stadium is a gift! His playing there was the best it’s ever been.
