He was definitely a huge part of ocms . So was critter when he left and they did fine with Gil. OCMS are still one of the purest bands around even with willie being apart of Dave Rawlings machine now.
I saw ocms in philly 6 months ago or so. They were still great, but god I missed Willie. It wasn’t the same. Been a fan for a long time but never got to see them all in this together lol
Just saw this guy yesterday at freshgrass bluegrass festivale, and I was totally blown away. Just this small little guy up on stage with SUCH a powerful voice, so authentic and real. It was definitely a magical moment watching him play.
found about watson and him covering this song a few years ago. I have always fellt that this song meant a lot to me. he kicks as in the movie ballad of buster scruggs. the cool thing is that I recognized watson in the movie playing a gunman. so glad I found his music and also being able to see him in that cowboy flick. i also know about his previous music before his "solo" times. very special voice , hes awesome!!! thanks for doing what you do
On the banks of the river, where the willows hang down, Where the wild birds all warble with a low moaning sound, Down in the hollow where the water runs cold, It's there I have listened to the lies that you told. Now I lie on my bed and I see your sweet face. The past I remember, time cannot erase. The letters you wrote me were written in shame, And I know that your conscience still echos my pain. Now the nights are so long, my sorrow runs deep. Nothing is worse than a night without sleep. I walk out alone, I look at the sky, Too empty to sing, too lonesome to cry. Now if the ladies were blackbirds and the ladies were thrushes, I'd lie there for hours in the chilly cold marshes. If the ladies were squirrels with them high bushy tails, I'd fill up my shotgu
He was at my favorite festival several years ago. Fantastic artist..The festival died due to pure greed. Willie and his show there goes on. Prolly posted by a familiar entity. My tall tripod... awesome, just magical show. I was present enough to be a judge. Greed killed it.... ni question.
buster scruggs brought me here, Willie was in the film as the kid, black suited gunslinger and Buster's nemesis, I didn't realise when I saw the movie that he was more than an actor but a genuine country singer of immense talent!
Looking forward to seeing this guy in Chicago later this month. Appears to have a deep respect for the genre. Sorta rare in the current batch of folkies.
Saw him perform this at the Grave Mountain Bluegrass festival (Syria VA) around this time. The Hillbilles all sat there looking like statues. They like "who invited Bob Dylan?"
Saw ocms last year, and frankly was disappointed…it was more of a “show” than great old timey music they USED to do…noticed ww was missing, didnt really know him by name but now ido, fantastic.
Excellent! 👌🔥 Tyler Childers sing this as well He's on my absolute favs..now you are! 👍 Great cover of this song! You killed it on Gallows Pole!!!!!!!!
Naw, willie is wayyyyy better, more soul, can actually sing etc etc. Plus Willie didnt say every single person in the south was raycist because they didnt want their cities burned down, peacefully of course, over some drug addict in Minneapolis who robbed a pregnant woman. Notice how Tyler doesnt tour much anymore ,yea Tyler, we Remember.

Within 5 seconds of that harmonica my wife just burst into tears.. keep it up brother, respect

This us weekend at river
So true Shelby Taylor weaver! So very true!!,
Yippie-ki-yi-aye
Set a date
But with Steve Young singing it...
Probably the best piece by this stunning musician
I agree
He did do this song amazingly and it is my favorite version of it, but he didn't write it originally. It's been covered by many artists
No special effects, just a pure, vulnerable, honest voice
very real music that tells real life stories, I just can't get enough
Perfect diction too, unmistakable lyrics.
👍🏼😎
I accidentally came across him doing a Willie Nelson search and couldnt be happier with the results. Been jamming him ever since!
Willie was a main key in ocms sound. They haven't sounded nearly as good ever since. Loving his solo work
He was definitely a huge part of ocms . So was critter when he left and they did fine with Gil. OCMS are still one of the purest bands around even with willie being apart of Dave Rawlings machine now.
Natasha Carter Kyle saw them two nights ago, they are still amazing!
Met willie and ketch at amoeba in Hollywood both very cool and what a free show that night with Dave Rawlings machine
I saw ocms in philly 6 months ago or so. They were still great, but god I missed Willie. It wasn’t the same. Been a fan for a long time but never got to see them all in this together lol
My favorite version of this song. He sang the 3rd verse which is my favorite but the one most people leave out.
One of the most heartbreaking songs of all time 💔
I lived this song ... too many times
Just realized this guy is in The Ballad of Buster Scruggs! Wish more country artists had cameos in western movies.
Great movie. I found Willie Watson through the band Old Crow Medicine Show.
@@boothl232 Me too...one of my fav bands
Now thats a man whos paid his dues so pay him some respect and then some!
Sounds like words from a woman to man.

+Ted Miller I saw that as well. Really something, wasn't he? The read deal.
Willie !
You absolutely Tore That Up fella !
That was a grand performance !
Bring a tear to a glass eye 😢. I love it
Perfectly lonesome sound for the lyrics. Willie's the best old sound in newer artists. Love it!
Stark. Powerful. Emotional. Real. One for the ages. WW is an incredible talent and he's doing it his way.
This is, by far, the best version this song.
tyler childers
Waylon Jennings

@@roynebarnhill4137😂 nope.
@@roynebarnhill4137you’re joking? Hopefully
Seen him twice now and looking forward to seeing him again. A superb singer!
This is about the most beautiful thing I've ever heard; Willie is transcendant. Joan Baez does a lovely version too on one of her albums.

BUDDY AND JULIE MILLER SING THIS TOO! GORGEOUS, AS WELL!
@@lindanorris2455 The Buddy and Julie Miller version is the first cover I heard of this song and remains my favourite.
Tyler Childers does a good job as well
Check out the Steve Young version.
Shades of Hank Williams. Stark and splendid. Love it. You got a new fan, Willie.
Willie Watson sure sings his heart out. Voice of an angel too.
Love the sound Willie, music at it's best, clean guitar pickin, voice that carries with the wind. You take me on a journey, great song!
110 percent right there. So right so good. Pure gold.
My mammaw used to sing those old mountain murder songs.Long black veil, Knoxville girl, and others this takes me back.Glad that sound is alive still.
I love Willie's voice. So pure and so sweet!. This is my favorite so far off his new CD.

Everything about this song, this performance, is perfection. I love it.

Soon as that harmonica hit I knew this was a hit
buster scruggs brought me here, Willie was in the film as the kid, black suited gunslinger and Buster's nemesis, I didn't realise when I saw the movie that he was more than an actor but a genuine country singer of immense talent!
Oh my. I’ve got goosebumps on top of goosebumps. That amazing voice!!!! ❤️❤️
Willie is awesome! One of the best singers out there! Can't wait for more of his vids.
You ripped my heart out my dear friend.
Hace mucho tiempo que nadie me llegaba hasta lo más profundo del corazón ni me ponía los pelos de punta de esta manera.. Cuanto talento. Gracias❤️
Looking forward to seeing this guy in Chicago later this month. Appears to have a deep respect for the genre. Sorta rare in the current batch of folkies.
gives you just the right kinda chills
I absolutely love this. I covered this song because of your version Willie!!
This guy gives me chills because he’s original.
A voice so unusual and real. Great storytelling!
WOW ! an amazing talent , strong voice , Thanks for sharing.
I absolutely love the harmonica in the opening to the song,
Since 2016 this song/rendition/this video has gotten me through a lot.
Tells the truth and Willie you tell it SO WELL!
Squirrel has never been sang more beautifully.
Is that Willie’s nickname?
Saw him perform this at the Grave Mountain Bluegrass festival (Syria VA) around this time. The Hillbilles all sat there looking like statues. They like "who invited Bob Dylan?"
Hardly. Willie's voice is his own.
Not to central Virginians they seriously like "what the f%$k?"
I like Bod Dylan, but his voice sucks! This guy can really sing. What Dylan was, was a hell of a song writer.
Be cooler about throwing out the H word
I first seen willie play on stage at the woody Guthrie fest. Great musician love his music.
Let me tell you buddy...
Theres a faster gun..
I was today years old when I realized its him lol.

Wow what a stud. Adding this guy you my playlist..
This is so good!! I would love to see Wille Watson and Bob Dylan doing a duet.
Can't understand why i do love so much this kind of music so far from my culture, but I do and Williw Watson is the top..........
Wonderful singer! Never heard of him before, but he was mentioned in a Buster Scrugs video, which brought me here. Definitely a fan of him now! 😊
So so so good. Thank you!
Goosebumps, 10/10
Last time I heard this song was when Doc Watson did it when he preformed at ETSU many years ago. Both versions bring a chill to one’s soul.
There is just something so special about good, honest voices nowadays. Hard to come by. Just saw him open for the Avett Brothers, and was blown away!
He probably blew the avett brothers out of the water lol

Love this old song ~
Omg his voice... Wow !!!
Love this! Thank you
Willie Watson is doing real justice to Bruce Phillips' gorgeous song. What a beautiful, reedy voice!
This song is too relatable. My heart hurts.
I saw him open for Tedeschi-Trucks a few months back. He's one of the best opening acts I've ever seen. Excellent performer.
timeless music...
Masterful!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😢

The harmonica 😭 what a soulful touch. Great rendition, even more so that it ripped my heart out.
Love you Willie !!!!!
This is something else... like and early early Bob Dylan for today. Can't wait for him to swing by up here in Canada.
Best freaking song ever
Is there anyone in the world that can sing as good as Willie????? No
try Trent Wagler of The Steel Wheels. :)

Lovely song, lovely Bob Dylan impression, too.
Nice version. My favourite version is sung by Tony Rice back when he was with the New South in 1975.
Great stuff!
