“Finally I’m at the last level of this chapter in SOL and i have the exact amount of energy to fight this stage” **11 seconds later** METAL ENEMY SPAWNS AND YOU DONT HAVE CRITTERS
I just wanted to say thank you for actually talking about the other core issues with metal that arent just rng. Way too many people get caught up with the fact that crit is chance based and leave the argument at "metal is bad because rng". While there are some stages that are like that the majority of stages with metals at least to me feel trivial and tedious since the exact same cc and crit spam strat is typically enough for those stages. That trait is so poorly designed overall and i really wish ponos would do more to help it.
FINALLY someone talking about this, I hate metal enemies with a burning passion, and everytime they show up in a stage I just immediately get annoyed and go "UUUUGH FINE I'll bring a critter".
i honestly think that one of the biggest problems with metals is how it leaves critical as an ability to be underutilized and only to be reserved for dealing with metals. in other strategy based games critical hits seem to be like additional damage to the attacker, but in bc the only units where crit actually feels the same way are luffy and cameraman, and that kinda leaves me disappointed, they managed to make crits work in the traditional way, why not making more stuff like this?
Crit are usually meant to boost the unit like manic whale but due to not wanting to break metals they have lowered the crit damage to like 1500 or an abysmal proc rate, which is where savage blow comes in, it DOESNT affect metals but is exactly what crops should’ve been
I think it’s time for new content for Metal enemies. As much as they are luck based, Catasaurus is quite reliable once fully upgraded, talented and given a talent orb. Not perfect but excellent as a Rate unit. I’d love to see a dismemberment feature on new metal enemy variants where they have two separate HP bars. One where they have metal HP, then regular HP. Most of these will be stronger enemy units higher range
The current metal meta revolves around Catasaurus and we need enemies who easily counter it. You need to use your cannon, Foundation, longer range units and good timing to win. A genius scientist modified metal enemies and is the final boss who becomes a Cat Unit
5:48 this is the worst stage design in battle cats and I have yet to be proven otherwise. The amount of bullshit you need to go through to beat that garbage in incredible. Even when getting ubercarried by paladin, I still had a lot of runs that died to metal one horns and super metal hippoes because I just got unlucky. This stage highlights everything wrong with metal enemies in the worst way possible
Litteraly, i remember doing some level, and I didn't expect super metal hippoe to my non crit loadout! I got very good at holding him, but i was doing that for 10 minutes before i had enough and just left a level, only to beat it with catasaurus in 30 seconds...
An enemy who’s entire gimmick is requiring RNG to be defeated should NOT exist in a strategy game. I’ve obviously struggled with other traits like Aku and Relic before, but when I lose to those types of enemies, I’m not too upset since the reason I lost is usually because I wasn’t ready to fight them yet or simple lack of skill. But Metal? When I lose to metal, there’s usually no other reason than 1. PONOS decided to surprise me by putting a random metal seal in a stage or something, or 2. Simple bad RNG (I know #1 can be avoided if I went to the wiki, but PONOS themselves should be providing the warning, not outside sources). Overall, Metal is easily my least favorite trait due to 90% of losses to metal enemies being to the 2 stupid reasons I listed above and what I said at the start being “RNG shouldn’t exist in a strategy game” (at least in the “battle” part of the game).
Metals are actually part of the reason why it took me 2 years to finish 4 star sol... They are REALLY annoying when backliners and superbackliners are present, or when they add other hard pushing enemies that have less range than them, forcing your critters to hit those enemies and not the metals
The only metal enemy I faced was metal hippo yet... due my lack of critic it takes me a lot to kill it without cow cat, and darn I dont want to imagine how hard are the other ones
I hate Metal Sir Seal, I finally beat a difficult stage, but then a Metal Seal came out of nowhere and tanked hits for the next 8 minutes until I eventually gave up
I find the problem isn't that metals are hard to beat (considering lolly cat and catasaurus exist), but the main problem is that it's a very one dimensional trait. > Metal Enemy appears > Equips Catasaurus > Wins stage Most other traits, you can take different approaches, but not really metals.
clearly not a 3* ironsand beach enjoyer 😔 although as for the video itself I feel like a couple of the points missed. For instance, CC units in general (much like crit units) serve no utility beyond shutting down some trait. Additionally, starred aliens, aku, or zombie also "require" specific lineup choices for bbreak, spierce, or zkill. There are also plenty of decetly interesting UL stages with metal enemies that require "solving" beyond bringing your classic lineups (consider Roe Row, On the Rocks, Persona's Blooming, or Burning Blue) where the niche selection of units for dealing with metals is used to make the stage more interesting. anyways, glad this ended up in my feed. subscribed!
Thanks for enjoying the video, though I disagree with some of the things you said and will continue to believe what I said. For one, normal CC units aren't unlocked by doing stages. Them, like sanzo or thaumaturge being unlocked in the gacha make them feel far less underwhelming. And, about having to bring certain units on things like star alien aku or zombie stages, the difference there is that most of the time those are actually interesting units to fight outside of just having to break their shields or kill them with the ZK ability... Not to mention that all three of their abilities are far less annoying and don't depend crits and only crits to do damage. Also, I'm a believer in the fact that some metal stages are good like total myopia and electric bath, though unlike the types you've mentioned metals will basically always be dealt with in basically the same way every time. You can bring housewife to an aku stage, or pizza to a started alien stage, but with metals you just can't because you have to deal with them in a very specific way... Which usually is not fun. Thank you for the disagreement, I'm always open to them.
I don’t like how they do almost *nothing* interesting with them. The most we’ve gotten is Cybear who’s never used and Koronium *halfway through Uncanny Legends.* They could use at least one traditional backliner at this point…
3:28 I agreed with most of your points except for this one, replaying the same stages over and over again hoping you get the best version of a drop is not more interesting than a boss fight. It could be if treasures at least had a guarantee drop after you beat it enough times, but it doesn't.
Sure, but the mechanic itself is far more interesting in its effect than fighting a boss and getting noodle cats. And, at the same time, things like treasure drop rate up events happen all the time. I don't think the treasure mechanic is all that great, but I think in the case of weakening a trait it was the most well implemented variation of it.
@AlexanderG-l4c that's fair, I guess I just found the fun in collecting the units most of all as well as being able to beat the bosses being satisfying, whether I crushed them or not that's how I saw my progression
i think that the implementation of metal killer will allow ponos to add more metal enemies and allow those metal enemies to be more unique. exept for the fact that the only units with metal killer are ubers (i think)
I think cyclone stages was a decent answer to fix the low anti metals in the game. Imagine getting hard stuck on a stage because you couldn’t unlock catasaurus in the gacha and relying on fish or moneko to crit.
An answer to a problem Ponos created, yes. Then, once you solve that problem, the whole trait becomes annoying more than anything outside of a few cool uses of it like in total myopia
I go back and forth as to whether or not I want to ultra form kaguya for metal killer. On one hand, no more metal seals. On the other, I save dark catseyes and hope catasaurus hits crits
@ that’s exactly why I hesitate to ultra form kaguya. I’d much rather invest in something like uf dioramos but never having to worry about metal enemies with kaguya is very tempting
Tbh the worst part is with the current anti metal selection, metals kinda… can’t go from this set pattern. Much as there is wishing that there could be something different with metals, there is AVID reason why there isn’t even a metal backliner yet, let alone something like a metal/behemoth, colossus/baron or sage. The typing fundamentally can’t be different without being unbearable or imbalanced. Would it be nice to at least have a metal backliner: yes it definitely would since it could even open up new niches for certain units, for instance, it can make the value of cat researcher as a critter more warranted since it can quickly rush in and attempt to chip it. Or hell, even making a metal/zombie so soba’s zkill actually has a reason to exist. I play bcu, and encounter various concepts such as the aforementioned, and they worked beautifully, so no reason ponos can’t pull it off as well.
If metals were all like Croconator where theyre more of a hinderance than a full on gimmick, they woukd actually be really fun. But something that smart is fantasy for PONOS.
It's hard to call metals the worst implemented when they've been in the game for so long(like almost 10 years long). Either way I hate them with a passion and will probably get UF kaguya when they piss off enough.
1. I love destroying metal seal and hippoe with my level 45 lufalan pasalan 2. Woods of Resentment is a pretty good metal mixed stage 3. can we delete the march to death metals? thanks.

Lufalan Pasalan never left my teams just because that one random metal enemy that appears for NO FCKING reason At least I have some chance of not having to leave and get catausaurus for just one level
Are one of the best traits in the entire game that utilizes the previously created mechanic of barriers and remakes them into shields with HP that comes back every time you knock them back, and their surge mechanic that acts like a wall to damage and block your cats from moving forward...
