I am an American and I grew up eating liver and onions. I'm watching your show because I plan to make it myself very soon. :-)

I’m an American from the South and we certainly had liver (most often beef) and onions fairly often. Our grandmothers claimed it strengthened the blood. I do like it and there is a local restaurant that has it on the menu.

As a child growing up in Missouri, all of the adults I knew ate liver and onions once a week. I did not care for it, probably because my mother over cooked it.
My grandmother never wasted chicken hearts, gizzards, or liver.
Even beef liver is no longer readily available in grocery stores in Oakland, CA. One has to go to high end or ethnic stores. Sweetbreads, thymus, hearts, and gizzards are a chore to source. I suspect that offal ends up in sausage, bologna, and pet food in the USA generally.
I am currently trying my best to learn to like liver. The onions, bacon, and gravey help a lot. The butter is critical.
Some advocate soaking the liver in buttermilk to tone down it's flavor. I have yet to try this.
    Thanks for the video.

I really enjoyed your video! Since I saw Grandma Gina (from Buon a Petiti) make liver and onions, I have been “craving” some! My mother made us calves liver with mashed potatoes and a veg on a regular basis. She always dredged hers on flour, which I did, also. We never made a gravy but yours looks delicious as do the rashers of bacon. I served it to my family, too, what seems like years ago now. My children became Vegetarians as teens and I stopped making it. I will definitely treat myself to a meal like yours as soon as I shop. I will add the herbs you did. I live in the USA. You are right, we mainly use beef or calves liver here.
I don’t know why, but maybe in other parts of the country, they do use other livers. When I make chicken soup or Thanksgiving turkey, I enjoy the livers.
    Thanks again! :)

Sweating is with a lid on! (Hence the moisture) without a lid it’s just frying. That’s what I was taught at catering college. Lovely dish regardless👍👏🏻

My mom made liver and onions when I was a girl, American style. Floured it, fried it, smothered it with lots of onions, some water and cooked until onions done. I still do up some occasionally. It seems to taste good when my iron count is down. Going to have to try your way, looks delicious with the beef gravy. Mom did pan fried potatoes and onions as a side. Catsup to dip it in.

I have tried this recipe and it was brilliant. I have done liver before and always coated it with flour. But this time I didn't coat the liver with flour and I used the herbs you mentioned and the difference was amazing. Thank you Cannonball.

“The Christian has the freedom to eat meat without it being a question of conscience. In fact, not only can they do it, they are blessed when they do it and the source of the meat is not really an issue in the New Testament,” Jamison says. “We are allowed to eat meat from " any type of animals "
