Possibly a controversial opinion: The F10 has the best interior BMW ever designed. I just can’t deny how sleek the dashboard is. The iDrive screen placement just looks rad. Plus the iDrive of this era isn’t edgy compared to today’s technology. It’s probably the only car technology that’ll age well, because to this day it’s still sleek yet not exaggerated. This interior is simply the sweet spot of simplicity and luxury.
I wouldn't say it's the best looking but it's the best compromise between old-new tech BMW did. I seriously despise digital speedos, imagine dropping 200k+ on a car and they can't be even bothered to make a nice cluster.
I agree. I don't like how Mercedes put an old iPad lookalike screen in the middle of the dash. They still do on some cars. This one is more integrated. I love the F10.
I prefer same gen x5/x6 interior.
absolutely agree and i'm definitely biased as I own a 535i haha. but those gauges are my favorite out of any BMW gauges (especially the live cockpit lmao) but I've definitely always wanted an F10 M5
The interior is stunning but I can't stand this steering wheel. Definetly prefer the LCI wheel.
would love to drive this one day. All M5s just look so good
I have a 2011 F10 550i with Alpina B7 turbos with the 6 speed manual transmission…upgraded suspension brakes exhaust…awesome daily driver… car always get complements and folks say I can’t believe it’s a manual 😎
How much power at the crank with the B7 Turbos?
What do you think has a better ride quality the 550i or the m5. I drive a f10 550i and was super impressed by the ride quality and the powerband.
@@johnnybravo4976You can only compare the two on paper. The M5 is a better, far more capable car. A base 550 would be a better daily driver, since the ZF8 is butter smooth and the suspension and seats are not as comfy in the M5.
But that LSD really transforms how the car puts the power down.
@@johnnybravo4976I driven both and I’d take a 6 speed 550i. Same engine just different tunes and stronger internals for the M5. The 550i feels more comfortable while being no slouch when it comes to speed.
I cannot wait to own a 2018 B7 and a manual m3 or m5
I just got a 2022 M3 and ordered it in manual. I absolutely love it. The automatic wasn’t even a thought in my mind.
I rented a g80 manual on Turo, love it, keep the manuals alive, sports cars should be manual..
No clue you could get these in a manual! Man, the car world had some cool stuff going on in the late 2000s/early 2010s.
Like seriously cool.
Yep I had no idea either before I bought mine great car 😎
The halcyon days for cars
M6 as well.
I’ve been thinking about manual swapping my F10 550i. I just got it a week ago it’s nice to cruise on the freeway but I want to be shifting gears. This car is so badass not having a manual in it is criminal.
Why we never got the F10 M5 with a manual here in Europe, I'll never truly know...
I‘ve read that in Morgan Freeman‘s voice
@morphyon 💀💀💀 Shawshank Morgan too lol
A cool car that was offered to the US market and not Europe??? Like a unicorn!
Checkmate, Europe
@@kylereyes2337 Alright, you win. But beware, we Europeans aren‘t all smiles and sunshine.
That honk cut lol
But now i'm excited for a future Crane Drive
Would love if you can test drive the E60 M5 with the manual!
Love that you put this video out, as I was looking at Manual F10 M5's.
This generation m5 with a manual is a top top dream car for me. This video shows me it's as epic as I dream of. I driven one in a valet garage and ever since then I really wanted to take one out. I love the bmw turbo v8, the torque is nuts.
Slightly nostalgic. These things are now a decade old.
Its so amazing to see a review of such a great saloon on roads that I am familiar with!
@7:40 - 60-110 is impressive. This video doesn’t do it justice as a x3m40i owner. With 93 octane being 5.10 a gallon right now I’m gonna keep mine on sports plus and enjoy these vehicles until mine needs to be powered by a Duracell.
I think this car especially the manual version will be a future classic
Never knew that m5 f10 with manual ever existed 😄😂
they were US only afaik
Even the M6 came in manual
@@NS416 damn
Great vid!! gotta love the m5! (really excited for more Honda Civic SI content!)
A very rare vehicle right here. Sweet
All M5's are legends . Amazing car 🔥🔥🔥
Awesome vid man! 🔥
I'm more of a Mercedes guy... but there's just something about the M5 that is amazing. Maybe it's the subtlety, or maybe it just feels like more of an executive car compared to the E63. Amazing.
Just bought the m2 that was in their show room. Great ppl there highly recommend their business.
the f10 was one of the best cars ever made. period. its my daily and i love it. i cant really find any replacement for this car and thats says it all.
My dad had a 530d f10 which was awesome and was very touquie due to the diesel engine😂 but 10 months of Ower ship it caught fire.
I like your channel. I have the G80 M3 in manual and I absolutely love it
Minivans and Chevy Tahoe's are the one you gotta watch I find. Their drivers tend to be more focused on the kids in the backseat than actually driving and it causes them to do stupid and dangerous things
Horrible drivers
By me, there are few things worse than the delusional Nissan Altima driver. The older & more trashed it is, the faster they go....no matter the weather, road conditions, traffic, etc.
I guarantee you'd be mind blown. Someone convinced all of them that they're F1 drivers.
I had no idea these came in stick so cool!
Nice review!
I leased a 2015 F10 M5 DCT and really liked it. I put it on the track several times. Only downside was a harsh ride for what it was and numb steering. I then switched to an ‘18 M550i. Better numbers thanks to xDrive and still fun to drive but it had understeer and lacked character. I do like the F90 M5 but its too much for the street and quite pricey if loaded.
M5s a super car killer in a grocery getting family saloon, fairly priced if you consider what it has to offer
@@apspicy99A stock M5 isnt a supercar beater unless youre thinking about 20 year old supercars.
But its morbidly fast for a sedan. The F90 and Gx M cars do a better job because of xdrive but id still pick an M6 grand coupe over all of them 😂
So rare F10 M5 Manual!
Loved this design from BMW. The F10 made me a little bit of a fanboy of the model. The car had something luxurious yet sporty and they sound amazing.
I've driven one some time ago and they feel solid, somewhat heavy but they have some sweet power under that pedal. The one I drove was also chip tuned and got even faster acceleration.
They do make for great daily drivers too, plenty of luggage space and cabin stowage areas. Not a fan of the flimsy cup holders, but I guess that can be forgiven.
This black on black looks sweet, its a nice car to blend in with, a proper sleeper even when its stock.
Shame they sound like apsolute shit. The speaker artificial engine sound doesnt help one bit.
Extremely rare to see a manual f10 m5
Love my M5 E60 V10 2008 naturally aspirated Engine with DINAN package still have it.
Turbo 8 equals lots of fun.
Bring more vídeos with this car or M5 F10
I can't wait for warmer weather so we can hear some top/down or windows open audio
Nice video, and what a unique car!! Haven’t driven an F10 M5, but I’ve driven several F10s. What I can say is they’re very distant as a driving experience. The E60 was very comfortable, but it still had that tied to the road feeling which is totally missing with the F10. I’m thinking it’s because of the massive weight gain, the EPS, and the platform sharing with larger, more expensive cars. Either way, I’d be very curious to try an F10 M5 out
I have an E60 535i M-sport with a tune and 6-speed manual and before that I had an E39 540i sport 6-speed. I always thought my next 5-series would be an F10 M5 once they became affordable. About 3 years ago now, I got the chance to drive an F10 DCT M5 and I was extremely disappointed. It was very isolating and I felt like I was driving a big SUV. Maybe a 6-speed in the F10 (which is what I would have wanted) would be better. Anyway I still have the E60 now with 140k miles and I got a 997.2 6-speed to complement it instead of going for the M5. I think the E60s are the last generation of 5-series that feel agile and have road feel, though I understand the F90s are better than the F10s. But now I am thinking an F80 M3 which is about the same size as my old E39 might be my next and last BMW even though they also don't quite have the road feel of an E60 either let alone the comfort, but better than an F10.
@@alangil40 Yes, totally agree with you. Also, while the 540i’s steering wasn’t the best because of it being a steering box, it was still better than the EPS in the F10s. It had road feel and you were connected with the car. Hold on to that E60 as long as you can!!! It’s exactly how you said. It’s the last 5 series that still feels like a BMW. Also, 997.2 is an awesome car. Dream garage right there that you’ve got!!
agree i own f10 and that car feels like its impossible to bring it to life car gives you almost zero information through steering wheel im able to bring its charakter for life but only for little moment when i can feel weight physics when car start to talk to me but everytime only for moment othertimes its just heavy ship with weird rubber steering but yeah its comfy and able to induce luxury atmosphere on board i call it my pillow :D
Agreed. I sold my F10 in under 3 years. Really poor car. Just hated the way it drove.
@@joetacchino4470 I'm about to do the same with mine when I can buy a car after inflation settles lol
other than the turbos cooking the the top end of the engine, it's a pretty awsome platform!
The best location for a turbo. Shame they made it sound like a vacuum cleaner.
Wow, I never knew these came in manual
A manual transmission suits any car amigo!
Interesting. I feel the internet is a bit hung up on manuals. I mean I miss my e39, but look forward to driving the S85 (with SMG III) every time. It is such a special car. The F10 did not feel special, very capable, but not special. It doesn't sound special or make you feel special. A v10 in 'ultraviolent' paint, as somebody once called it, is sufficiently different.
But the F10 is more comfortable and makes more sense as a daily - but as Tedward has found a Civic is all you need!
yess
I have M5 F10 6 speed manual with 7000 miles She is in the garage and will see the sun again 🌞 in 10 more years from now.
Didn’t realize these even came with manuals!
Good video reward
awesome
Nice 👌🏻😎
i love bmw
Not a fan of the M5 but this one impressed me
I love M5s, this car is such a beast and at the same time the luxurious is on top level! But somehow it doesn't seems correct for me to be with manual although I prefer manual cars, for this business car class I think the automatic gearbox with paddle shifters is more classy. It even looks strange to have a manual gearstick in this interior.. If I want manual gearbox for crazy mountain roads I will go for M3 or M4.
Nice Video Man.. Always interesting to hear the Details. I Wonder how Sharp and direct this M5 Steers and how Stiff it Feels compared to the M3 E92 and M4 F82? Myself I am driving a 750I F01. It has the Active Steering, so 2.0 Turning Circle. 😍Plus a KW 3 Suspension .This 7 of mine Feels like an M.. So Sharp and Direct off Center Steering. And Stays Flat at the same Time. I Love it... It's really almost the same like an M3 E92 or M4. Except for the Mass of course. Unfortunately I never had the Opportunity to drive an F10 M5.
Needs to have a twin disc clutch and no helper spring. Those stupid springs def help the effort to hold the pedal on the floor but really throws off engagement. With a twin disc the pedal pressure would be lower and not need a helper spring to be daily driveable
I’d still go for a manual v10 that cars in its own league of special tho finding one these days is quite hard
They are but the 6-speed manual is less suited to the S85. (I've owned the e61 for 7 years and the e39 for 8 years before that.)
If I may explain my POV: It is a very thirsty engine. Drive is configured to pull away in 2nd and get into 5th by about 40mph never going above 3,000rpm. This might sound nanny-ish, but you start with a cold engine and 400hp which lets face it is plenty in a residential road between parked cars.
So the 7 SMG ratios are there to get the acceleration and keep revs low at highway cruising speed and the exhaust is tuned so as not to deafen you, the wife and kids as you drive to the mountains/sea for the weekend.
I carry two spares in modified side storage a 5L and a 10L and if going to a track I throw in a couple of 20Ls, padlocks and a chain!
The S85 can do 110mph in limp mode, before I got to that stage on the track it was a missile, the instructor kept saying faster - I thought we would take off. It sounded like a jet. The SMG paddles are always there even on a tight circuit like Cadwell Park you can lock to lock.
Yes, you can just pull on a paddle to immediately choose the gear you want. You can pull or push the shift lever to do the same. If you leave it in manual it will still change for you to save the engine and do that in the shift mode you have set for manual mode. So if you change to 3rd come to a stop at the lights it blips changes you down to 1st you pull away in first which it holds until it must change to 2nd which it does slowly or very fast.
You just have to learn it and let it learn your driving style. Millions of people can't drive stick. You just have to learn stick and learn SMG. It does learn and adapt from a 'pressing on drive' to an 'oh we hit traffic and have to crawl'.
It's weakness is that it is not an auto and so reversing 400hp between narrow steel or concrete gate posts is a butt clenching moment every time.
Of course people say 'But, I want a manual' and you may get along fine - I have other manuals and automatics and enjoy them for what they are.
I like the 7 speed
I have to say, manual for a car this size does not really make sense, but it's fun to watch it
I’m considering looking into a fairly used decent mileage one. What’s the opinion on reliability, what is a cap max amount of miles. Also what’s the clunking heard when shifting gears?
Would love to see you test out the Hyundai Elantra n
In terms of design this M5 is the best but let’s not forget the E39 E60
Is the hot V oil burning issues a problem area?
From Canada love your videos very informative! Can you do another story video in the civic si? Maybe once it’s broken in?
Whoever ordered that from the factory is someone I’d like to have a beer with lol
2:50 I have nightmares from that sound
Shoutout Nashoba Valley
New Ted Mobile possibly ? 😂 hopefully
Swish… clap clap… swish. BROOM!
At 4:20, you can tell you've owned BMWs. When crawling, you know to shift to 2nd and take off. Even in my 328, a car with a whole lot less torque, that's how you get a smooth take off when crawling. But good golly miss molly, I'd happily exchange mine for this, even with the insurance, fuel, repair expenses, which especially right now, would be a back breaker.
Same for all cars?
Not just a BMW thing. Anything with a short first gear will be better off doing that.
If you don't take off in second gear from a crawl, you'd fail your driving license.
What would you say if you compared this sound to your E39? does it really sound like a V8?
Definitely not as exciting but it still has a nice v8 growl
I saw this and thought it said V10 instead of F10. Oops thought I was in for an E60 M5, while slightly disappointed. The F10 I think looks a little better.
Consternation!? That’s a ten dollar word!
Could you do a M550i?
I Wish tht we can get today's M5's and the M5 CS with a stick....!!! ✨✨😅😅
Nice video! Is this something you’d want to own (incl. dual clutch cars)? Have heard not great things about the reliability of the S63
Nah it's darn reliable as long as u take good care of it just like any other German car
@@hottiemcscottie5952no.
I wouldnt consider rod bearings, almost $3k of various sensors and $4k of injectors regular maintenance.
Lets not forget the $3-4k regular valve stem seals replacement where you have to take the cams or heads off 😂😂
manual M5 OHHHHHHH!
Just letting you know that's my favorite car. After 1969 Mustang
Is it just me, or does an automatic actually fit this car better than a manual? Idk why, but I pair big luxury GT cars with autos and smaller sportier cars with manuals.
I think the same thing, automatics just work better with larger cars because of their size and comfort.
6:52 Was that a stop sign?
there's something reassuring about tedward driving a 10yo bmw rocket
Don’t worry I still have my 21 year old bmw
Always been curious as to how the S63 cars perform with a manual. I think I'd still stick with the older S85 manual tho. Feels too removed from the driving experience
I have a N63 550i manual and it’s a blast.
Man a manual of a GT makes so much sense, but that must be just us gearheads. This thing is brilliant.
Yeah it’s just us gang
The rear drilled rotors are mounted backwards lol
Which manual M5 would you choose?
Are those some clunks while upshifting?
Did you run a stop sign at 6:50
The F10 is such a beautiful car compared to the E60. The E39 will always be best looking 5 series in my opinion. The f10 is definitely a close second.
E30 is the 3 series doe
@@RCXDerp meant the E39 my bad lmfao
for me the e60 is the best it just looks like the ultimate bmw, especially with an NA v10 its amazing
We got a 720 hp widebody M5
What about the m6 f13?
Have you ever made a video on how to drive manual BETTER? I'm new to it, and I'd love to learn from a pro...
I can do that soon
@@TedwardDrives Yes please i'd love to learn some of the Basic stuff and tricks
4:05 On that point, I've actually talked to some professional race drivers that they want the auto-blip to get the best times over heel-toe ;)
Sure but it’s a street car and you have the option for a dual clutch. If you chose the manual it’s not because you want to be the fastest. It’s about engagement
@@TedwardDrives meant more for why Porsche had gone that way with their track-oriented cars!
@@seanysyang They are street cars. RS cars don't come with manuals.
@@TedwardDrives But what if you REALLY have to get to that drive thru before it closes!?
All jokes aside, what I meant to say was that Porsche Sport+ seems to be very track focused (hence with all the autoblip and everything that can help you reduce your times), while Sport provides some more fun on legal roads.
How smooth and refined is the motor? I drove a BMW 550i which had the regular cross plane crank N63 so how does the S63 with the flat plane crank feel?
S63 is still a crossplane V8, it's not a significantly different engine than the N63
@@michu6777 Ohhh. It sounds like a flat plane crank motor (like a McLaren)
@@7477238 Yes! Interestingly enough, the hot V exhaust manifold has built in crossover pipes that make the crossplane burble sound more like a smooth flatplane
How does F10 M5 handle on mountain runs driving fast scale 1-10? Excessive understeer or oversteer?
M cars tend not to understeer, they are not stupid Audis with their engine in the front bumper.
Test drove a 2013 dct and although a very nice guick car the turbo lag was hideous for me! Mayby I will try to find a 6 speed and see if it's different!
if you think it's bad in an m5, a turbo 4 banger is literally undrivable in comparison
@@andrewgarcia3136 I believe that I prefer naturally aspirated engines for that reason!
I thought this was your next M5 🥲
Me too
I recently just got '13 M550i with the 8cl twin turbo. In stick! It's out of the box hp is 400. Any reason I can't get my engine tuned to put out the same 560 M HP? Is it the same engine?
You got a 550i with the N63. BMW never made an M550 in this gen.
The M5 has an S63.
It's so weird how a country with one of the lowest ratios of manual drivers gets a manual option while the rest of the world doesn't. BMW's reasoning also doesn't make sense, "No one would buy them if they were manual" then how did your first 3 generations of M5s do so well?
It actually makes sense, most Europeans buy these cars for their performance rather than driving experience, a manual in a car like this slightly takes away the performance, plus manuals are everywhere in Europe especially economy cars so we don't see them as anything special or must have. Meanwhile in the U.S the people in the market for these types of cars want a manual to feel something different from a car because they are surrounded in a sea of automatics.
As for the first 3 generations of M5s its because it was a completely different time, things have changed. Automatics were terrible back then especially for performance, so an automatic in a performance car was unheard of, in today's world, its a completely different story.
Unicorn!
someone in my old neighborhood drove an F10 for Lyft
That seems like a cost nightmare 😆
@@TedwardDrives not for their riders 😁
Yeah, beginning of the end for fun here. Performance and more isolation. Not a palpably engaging experience but still better than what they're doing now
I generally prefer manuals but big car like this I would stick to automatic
In my opinion, of all the M5s that ought to be a manual instead of auto/SMG/DCT, this isn't it. The DCT box suits the car very well in my experience.
I'll never get to drive a manual to compare to my DCT, as they don't exist in the UK, but I just can't see a manual fitting the character of the engine.
The Getrag DCT's that they used in these were at at the top of their game and, unlike single clutch auto's, these are still going to feel crisp and fast in 20-30 years time.
From watching this video it really seems to have a huge impact on performance, especially at full throttle, where the DCT can slam between the gears in less than a blink of an eye, with no spool down, like you seem to be experiencing with the manual. Hey I understand where manuals make sense, but for me, this can definitely needs the DCT
I think DCTs date the car more, even if they are a tier above most torque converters.
DCT sucks, especially in a car that will be stuck in traffic 70% of the time. They shift about as fast as a transmission can, but the jerkiness is horrid. Also, the S63s torque really eats those DCTs
