Don’t let the naysayers put a damper on your trip. You all are smart and pay attention to what’s happening around you. The closures will happen, whether they be snow or fires but I’m guessing you all will nail this thing. All my best! PS… you codgers are my new favorite PCT hime channel.

I start next month and am enjoying these video updates. Continue to ignore the naysayers and fearmongers. 99.999999% of them are not even PCT hikers, just keyboard warriors.

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain your experience out there so far. It is interesting and very helpful to those of us behind you on the trail this year. You mirrored my thoughts exactly about making decisions about conditions as you get closer to areas of greatest concern and how best to proceed, with safety being the priority. It will be an interesting year for sure. But already knowing many will be flip-flopping all over the place, ahead of time, will keep hikers mentally prepared that it probably will not be a straight line to completion and stay more focused on section x section this season. But we really don't know until we get there, get current info, and assess for ourselves. Stay safe and healthy as you proceed and keep sharing these valuable tidbits with us! ~Condor

It is really great that you are looking at all the variables. It doesn't matter how many times you flip-flop to complete the Trail. San and Moriah was an epic hike last year. They really crushed those miles. Any thoughts of the 24hr challenge further up the Trail? Happy Trails, stay safe, and stay well. Great vlog. Thanks for sharing.

If you guys reach the Cajon Pass McDonalds around mile 344 on either a Saturday or Sunday (only two days we can make the trip), my wife and I would love to drive down from Vegas to meet you both and buy ya'll lunch (and probably a lot of it to stock up on those calories!). We'd also be honored to bring any supplies you may need. Feel free to post an email if you want to take us up on it! Safe travels.

Hey Codgers, I watch your videos on a large screen and I’m picking up a lot of booming bass sounds. Not sure if it’s wind related or not but the mic system or the built in camera is picking up and publishing a background bass that makes it hard to watch the videos. Do you use a dead cat?

Good job guys! Have a question which I've wondered about for a while now. In a high snow year or any year you had to slow down because of postholing why wouldn't it be of benefit to use a pair of the modern light aluminum snowshoes? Wouldn't that be an answer to prevent injury and lost time? Seems like you could hang them on your pack-they're not heavy at all. Just through the bad parts and then ship them home. No need to answer if I'm offbase. I've often thought of doing the PCT in sections. I'm 77 but still pretty adventurous/crazy

My daughter and I started the PCT on March 3, 2020 and was sent home when covid lockdown hit. Right after that Trevor died on Mt. San Jacinto. He started a week after us. There are few videos out on that section as it was closed prior and opened up that year. So if you decide to hike that section, look for videos 2020 and after. I am glad to hear it is closed. We did hop back on last year for a couple weeks but now is not the time for her to do it again fulltime as she is in school. Look forward to following your trek.

The map opening was really nice. Listen to all the Naysayers who live in the region, you can weed out what is right for you. Good job of your hike, it appears you have have good weather so far , and no snow that I have seen has been surmountable. The two tall mountains coming up you will want to keep your eye on. use your poles and spikes on trail traverses . I am still wondering about Whippey Black Diamond hiking pole with built in axe arrestor, may help and better that just a hiking pole I think, haven't tried it . I fell here on a mountain in Alaska and the slope was 30-40 on trail, and sometimes as high as 60 along a few travers, no stopping if you fall on that, and you traverses are going to be your steep slopes even though you are following the horse trail. Don't be scared, go slow and sure. It's the weather and exhaustion of the legs which you want to keep an eye on. The legs have to be strong coming down long runs of tall mountains. Okay, go get em. Again good job on the videos, very fun.

Lots of legit alternatives for hiking San Jacinto (assuming closures end). I’ve hiked most. DM me if u want route intel. 152>179 is most risky piece, imho. 3 good bailouts in that piece - S of Apache Peak. I hope to go straight over when I arrive in mid-April.
