It can be hard to night hike in some sections. Enjoying your videos. I'm getting on the trail in mid-June at Donner Pass so perhaps we will run into each other. That cistern was awful when I went by it last year. Safe travels!

    Hey Codgers,
I’m a codger too and have been following you on your adventure. I too am hiking the PCT. I’m holding-up at home, 20 miles down the hill from Idyllwild. You probably already know you’ll have rain until Mar 22. Hopefully that will melt off more snow than it deposits.
Saturday Mar 17th some hikers resumed the trail and said that by mile 166 the snow was to deep and the slops too steep to continue. Apache Peak at mile 169 is a hazardous cliff and narrow trail when there is no snow. I don’t recommend going past mile 163 Eagle Spring Trail if snow is still an issue. The alternate route is Black Mountain Road to the PCT and going down Fuller Ridge. I have not heard of any one that has tried that alternate yet. Fuller Ridge is on the north face and likely heavy with snow. You can also hitch north on CA243 down to the San Gorgonio Pass and resume the trail an Snow Creek mile 207 or the I10 Oasis mile209.6.
Another option is to take either Live Oak Spring Trail or Cedar Spring Trail east down to Palm Canyon and hike in a more pleasant climate down to Palm Springs. Both trails from the springs are not well maintained. Palm Canyon is not maintained either until you get towards the mouth of the canyon. They are basically improved routes through the desert. Palm Springs has groceries stores, but CA111 can be a difficult hitch, but I’ve done it.
Happy trails and I look forward to your next video

You guys are amazing! Thanks for bringing us along.
As I mentioned in an earlier comment, I've placed my bet with my bookie. My money is on the Spitler Cutoff to Black Mountain Road ... but ... all silliness aside ... that's the route I'd probably need to take given MY lack of skills. Frankly, even without snow I'd probably have to take the Spitler Alternate as I wouldn't be able to handle that rope-assisted walk-around at the rockslide.
Whichever route you ultimately choose, please stay safe and keep at it.

You're right. Thank you for the clarification. I had mixed up the dates on some sanjacjon trail reports. I was under the mistaken impression there was still rope there even after the boulder removal. Nevertheless, that area would still be a little too dicey for me. I only speak for myself and my limited (essentially non-existent) skill set. I'm not saying what other people should or should not do.

How was the trail coming down off SanJacinto to Hwy 15? Your next leg up Whitewater will be a challenge as will Big Bear. This is the toughest year. Good luck. Enjoy following you.
