  • This is a very basic rundown on how to fly planes in warthunder and what you need to be doing. this is intended to be for new players to help them learn a bit more about what they are doing.

this is very good. Id just mention that not every fight is winnable and not every plane is good. Instead of going up a BR stay in 2.0-3.0BR until you figure out what the other planes are good at and youll also get a wide range skill from newbies to seal clubbers.

Saying this as a decade-player of WT, I can definitely say I wish this kind of video was out around 2014 because it would've saved me a lot of deaths when i had no idea what I was doing. Most definitely a guide im gonna share with some newer friends of mine. Well done. Solid points, good lessons. Thank you for putting this out :)

Which is why I prefer speed and firepower over maneuverability every day of the week. The P-40 is almost the perfect lead sled. My one complaint is it's poor rate of climb.

I havent watched this video but my advice is: theres a lot of videos online where the pilot talks maths in dogfight, what kind of manouvers to make and use fancy terms, those videos are all grabage. You have no time to think over numbers and textbook manouvers. You gotta fly the plane with your buttfeel you know, be aware of your opposing planes weaknesses and strengths and always have the speed advantage over your opponent unless you taustalla the situation being very much into your favour. Thats all

4:27 This is my problem with the video. Many of these WW2 air combat manuals are useful but they're missing almost 50 years of new developments and understandings of air-to-air combat in terms of BFM
The video also over complicates this when this could be explained with a simple powerpoint and then a broken down example like what you've shown in this video and then a full-speed actual in-gameplay version. Instead we have a video that doesn't covery effectively how energy management works. I think you should've focused on the gameplay first and had a check list to go through, and just dubbed over in post as you seemed to struggle focusing between explaining the topic whilst at the same time showing how to perform specific maneuvers.
Everything is about speed and how much you have going into an engagement. What you start with in an engagement and what an enemy starts with in an engagement is how much initial energy you both can cash into a fight, think like money. A Spitfire may be going 180 mph while a P-47 is going 300 mph at equal altitudes. The P-47 can EASILY beat a Spitfire with proper energy management , which is mostly trying to 'bank' or convert your energy into something that it can be called upon again. This is almost exclusively done by converting it to altitude, while a spitfire in this situation has no other option other to rely on the P-47 inadequately preserving his energy and wasting it (Which is pilot error), or cashing in on his insurance, which is his altitude, to gather speed.
What I described are the very basics of BFM and fights like 'two circle fights' and 'one circle fights' associated with jets make less of a flagrant appearance in ww2 props as you're not going to be flying the same way as you do in an F-15 or F-16 than a P-51 or Spitfire. The rest are understanding the variances of your enemy compared to what you have, how you aircraft behaves at different altitudes, the effectiveness of your flaps, your energy retention, power to weight ratio and so on.
if you fight enemies above 4500 meters in a P-47. The lighter air will make everyone turn worse, but your powerful engine that doesn't lose horsepower and big wings can make planes like the Bf-109 and Yak-3 think twice as they turn worse than before and lose way more energy as they hold less horsepower as long as you practice good energy management.
So literally. Go look up how your enemy aircraft are expected to perform and think of what advantages your aircraft has, down to your flap efficiency.
Giant aircraft like the P-38 can put smaller and more nimble fighters to shame because of how efficient it's flaps and proper flap management. Just remember though, flaps cash energy and there might be times you might not want to use flaps in a turn.
The reason I used U.S. planes a lot in this is because they are the country that requires the most knowledge of energy fighting. They have one of the highest skill ceilings, making it where with proper management you can become dominating. The only issue is the in-game timer making you less effective as you have to be patient.

I agree with the sentiment here, I was just trying to be very basic with my wording and understanding to help newer players, but you are correct in all of your statements.

@@Philosoraptor021Thank you, I don't think your video is wrong either, but I don't think you explained and demonstrated it the best so I'd recommend next time breaking everything down in post production so you can solidify what you're trying to convey and not worry about having to explain what you're doing whilst doing a maneuver.

I give you advice, Don't fly US planes, they are fat and heavy, they dont turn well, they struggle alot to climb but before they climb, other nation's planes climb b4 them making US boom zoom obsolete. Who wanna waste time climb about half the time of game duration and another moment you dive down easily and lose all speed and alt. Just fly german and other nation. Read each Plane on Wiki helps alot. by Now, if you read this, then u read this to save urself from sluggish fat planes who does nothing but get killed. Not only that, more than 90%, US planes lose and you rarely win any match.

They're not sluggish, they're just reliant on a different band of performance. Nor do you rely on boom N zoom. While I agree it's hard to be patient especially when you don't have time due to game duration (Mostly due to gaijin removing the 1 hour timer) But you are arguably almost untouchable planes. The P-47 and P-51 can dictate where fights occur and set the stage of when to engage. If you have particularly blood thirsty enemies. You can drag them to your desired altitude-which is especially useful as the P-47Ds are actually better than the P-51Ds as a fighter-and watch as they struggle to even keep up due to how weakened their engines are and the lighter air on their stubbier wings.

@@TheTISEOMan nothing matter, the only outcome is US almost always lose and losing means u can’t even farm RP and Lions. Thus, u hinder overall performance to get Top Tier. While other nations have better chance to win and progress way faster.

I fly them because I enjoy them. If they aren't your thing thats perfectly fine

@@nabeel97nm At that point it's no one to blame other than your team as many players are unaware of how to properly play U.S. aircraft. Especially when people repeat the mantra "Just side climb bro." Or "Just Boom and zoom" as pure boom and zoom is impossible.
Back when the first hitlerbolt was added to War thunder, the players who knew how to use the P-47 bought it, and because they skill ceiling for some German planes are lower, they were able to sweep games, to the point that the HitlerBolt was seen as an actual threat. Now. This was 2014-2015. The pool of players has increased so the collective skill has gone down for everyone, but still.

@@nabeel97nmwell, i played US Planes a lot, yes they are sluggish when they are slow, if you rant at US Planes for being sluggish, that means u played them wrong by being slow fat ass plane, i dont say u cant dogfighting with US Planes, and to be honest dogfighting in US planes were the best experience to felt on this game, i just dont get those experiences when i played with more manouverable aircraft, bcz of what? Bcz ur enemies are always runing away from you, they scared to death to engage in a dogfight with you, as you are more manouverable than them, and one more thing about RPs and SL, i have almost 100M SL and bunch of RPs i dont know how to spent them😉
