Stranded in a Ghost Town

- This Walmart truck was traveling through a very remote part of northern Oregon when it went into a full emissions derate, leaving the driver stranded in the ghost town of Shaniko Oregon.
So I got the @zacklift ready to go and headed north to get him picked up!

Ethan will be missed. I can see why his employer wanted him back, he's a great worker and good person.
The story of why he left was much less fun that the tale Casey gave elsewhere. :) Yes, he'll be missed.
Well there is always two stories to a case @@bishwatntl
@@bishwatntl Now I have to go and search "elsewhere" for the tale. Hah.
what happened to Ethan
13:09 "I know I'm doing something stupid, let me do it" Slogan of the channel
That slogan should be on a shirt
@@novavroomvroom3435 yes it should
Right along side: I never said I was good at this. 😁

Scares me to death when I see you unhooking a drive line. That is exactly how my brother died on top of Snoqualmie Pass. Was unhooking the drive line I think & it hit him in the head & killed him instantly. His 4 yr. old granddaughter was in the cab of the truck wondering why her Grandpa wasn't coming back. Very sad.
That’s why you always see me grabbing them to make sure they don’t have tension before I pull the bolts.
Showing us new camera I mirror. Camera looked nice. I can't say much for the guy wearing it 😂😂😂😂😜 just teasing you. Keep on doing the great work and thanks for the video
That is so sad to think about! 😞
have seen truckers that couldn't reverse their own truck and now you do it WITH a tow truck adding more pivot points and doing it really well...
Check out the European truckers that back two trailers with a dolly tandem in the middle. I saw it myself and I still can't believe anyone can do that.
@@jakester455Some in the US do triples too. I wonder if Australians reverse road trains.
@@cageordieI'm sure they do when they need to, but they probably try to avoid it if they can! 🤔 I'm pretty good at backing up trailers, been doing it since I was 14, but I can't imagine how a triple would be!
No you haven't seen any truckers that can't back their trailer you have seen steering wheel holders that can't back up their trailer That's the difference of a trucker and a steering wheel holder
@@RINEYMOTORSPORTS whatever... they are still called truckers... they just suck at their jobs...
Ethan will be missed, but I'm happy for him 👍🏼

I had a driveline throw me a fit like that before. The driver ran off because after over an hour of fighting it finally came out and well, it got some airtime. Never been so pissed at an inanimate object before in my life 😂😂😂
Damn Casey! Looking at the rust around the drive line a person would think that has been a truck that had been ran in the North East Coast salty winters! I have a couple of tool bags like yours , when I get them out to work on my Nieces car she laughs and calls them my 'Doctor Bags" . Good for Ethan , I think that you're 100% fine on your own with the filming Casey. You do an excellent job with filming and editing. Thanks for taking us along and thumbs UP!! 👍
yeah .. the tire chains are a clue it's not spent it's life in Florida .. lol
The New York decal on the front fender would be an indicator that it might have seen some salt.
Oh yeah. I've got me a "Dr's bag". A pink one and I'm very protective of that bag. I 💕 my tools. Don't know if you have "tradie" brand clothing in the USA, but we have socks, singles, t-shirts, bra and underwear with pink contrasts for women in the trades. Just a bit of fun because we have an ever increasing amount of women taking up builder, plumbing electrical, mechanical apprenticeships. It's not uncommon to see woman driving long haul trucks either. Cheers, have a good one.
Yeah my truck lives in the south I take a few loads a winter up to the northwest I got auto chains installed this winter after asking Casey gotta say haven't regretted the decision
you've never seen a rusty vehicle if you think that truck is bad lol . that truck is clean
That Iver tool is so slick. Worth every penny you paid for it.
Casey you do a really good job of not cussing in those driveline types of situations. I don’t ever cuss in normal conversations but in situations like this one I couldn’t contain myself. Good job.
I cuss all the fucking time.
@@CaseyLaDelle But ya did a good job of not reflecting it on video.
But you will notice on Casey's videos when he does cuss it is well warranted 😂 He gets into some situations that would make a preacher cuss. If you've ever worked around guys that's just part of it sometimes.
@@aliceevans3357 Yes, I understand that and I don’t mind a little of it but when I tune in to a channel and every other word is a cuss word I tune out forever. It’s just not necessary.
@@patbullard9276 What is it with people caring about a few bad words???? Who gives a fuck? it's just a way of expressing an emotion. Just because you don't, doesn't make you a better person.
When you said "I wonder if this thing his ever been towed", you were correct. That "paint" was marking from the factory that those bolts had been checked by them quality dept for torque spec.
Ethan will be missed but good for him!
We really enjoyed Ethan as an addition to your channel, watching you teaching him the ropes. Sorry to see him go, but glad he is doing well. Keep up the good work Casey!!!
Every time you go for the "driveline bag," I can't help but think about the time that you left the people on the side of the road that had the "sleeper modification."😳
I remember that! So gross!
I call it Casey’s maternity kit… every GP used to have a leather bag like this, always and everywhere, with all things needed to help with a delivery.
Any idea what video that was? Sounds like I have to watch that episode lol
@@sutton7864 I couldn't find it.
“Sleeper modifications” = they can stay there. That is so filthy 😮😮😮
All that weight, torque and dynamic force relying on those tiny little threads.
I rode that struggle bus last week, some douche tack welded the caps in because he didn’t know how to change the joint
Good Morning Casey I have never seen a drive line that bad before. They definitely didn't make the drive line easy to remove.
I am happy for Ethan and I know that you will do good on your own.
Shaniko was the end of that railway south from the Columbia. Lots of sheep and wool traveled that line. I like to try to follow the remnants of the rail bed when traveling to Biggs.
Oh man, that was a lot of work getting that drive shaft out but you did it. Bet you’re tired! Thanks for sharing
Third coffee break from 430am. Quick trip with Casey and his adventures.. great way to spend bit of out of stable chores time
This is a MAN's comment.
Good for Ethan...benefits and such are important for young guys trying build a career and family. I'm happy for him but he will be missed. Another great video with more tips and tricks for all to learn from. 👍
...Casey...wow....you sure earned your money on this one....I'm here in front of this monitor physically, but mentally I'm right there
with you pulling and tugging on pry bars and break-overs and slinging that big hammer....geez, I'm worn out!.....think I will take off
the rest of the day... 🙂
I love seeing Oregon again. Not enough to move back.. rain 😖 couldn’t take it anymore. Miss the people. Different mindset in Arizona.
Lived a few years in Salem and Corvallis. Rain is Oregon sunshine. LOL
I am glad Ethan is doing well. Nice view at the mountain identifier viewpoint.
If that was me under that truck struggling with the driveline there would be absolutely no usable audio. It would have to be all beeped out. My wife said "that's why you couldn't have a RUclips channel"😂
That drive line was certainly a real bear to get loose. Glad you told it you didn't appreciate its attitude ;-)
Good luck to Ethan, you gotta do what's right for you when the opportunity shows up .
Liked the direct pov. footage from that little camera.
I am sure that Ethan will be back to help with the occasional off road job. Or better yet just some random shenanigans!!!! 😂😂
"Iver tool for that!"
It amazes me that trucks are standard enough that you don't need a bunch of different width cross bars to make it work.
Good to hear about Ethan. Thanks for sharing.
That U joint is what I call a sunny beach. Lol.
Thank you Casey. That drive line needed a slide hammer or some dynamite😂😂😂.
Good to hear Ethan got a raise. When they realized how much the guy did for them and his working knowledge made him worth more, benefits tip the scale. I have a laborers' pension that makes a big difference.
Reluctant bolts are a curse. I recently replaced the starter motor on my brother's car. It had been previously replaced, and one of the bolts had an incorrect thread. I had to cut the old starter motor off with an angle grinder and find a replacement bolt with the correct thread for the new starter motor. I guess cutting the drive shaft with an angle grinder is not an option! 🙂
Jezz. There is no need for those nuts to be that tight! Someone got 'happy' with the impact tools!!!!
They were probably torqued at the factory
@@hughstephenson2957 Someone decided to tell the new assembly guy to Loctite those bolts
Thanks for sharing the full frustration of the driveline removal, I watched the whole thing waiting for the moment of success. I am like you, things like this don't beat me, I beat them! Good for Ethan but he will be missed.
Love that whoever designed that truck actually put thought into what if it needs recovering and fitted what seems to be standardised hardware.
Your Western Star is shining like new money. Very nice.
There's a resident that heard the ghost under the wal mart truck today.... :D
I never watched the Iver tool being used and I noticed that the part that you put in with the turn and latch "T" really is small looks like it is about an Inch, must be hardy material.
Sorry you lost Ethan as you two worked well together. But good on Ethan for seizing a great opportunity to return to his job. Hoping Grumpy shows up in more videos now. Y'all are a hoot together. As always, Thanks for Sharing. Peace Out.
That drive line gave you a run for your money!
Cab cam is the best dedicated camera.
Go Ethan, good luck. You did so well, you will be missed.
Casey put a case of triflow penetrating oil in your truck, it may help.
It won’t.
Freightliner that's "never been towed before" lol....good one Casey.
Must have been made on a Tuesday lol
It's not a Volvo..........
Well done Mr. Casey man
Hai Casey, deze berging ging niet gemakkelijk het aankoppelen van de truck wel
maar de aandrijfas demonteren die zat behoorlijk vast, ik heb ervan genoten bedankt ervoor gr carel uit Holland
Never seen that set up b4 thats cool
Glad to hear Ethan and you parted amicably.
That was painful to watch,
I can't imagine how it was to be the one to actually do it,
Good job Casey,
Sorry Ethan is going,
He was a good extra person to have on board.
All can say is, I'm sure you were glad it wasn't 0 degrees Fahrenheit with a stiff wind blowing when fighting with that drive line. Got to give you guys a lot of credit for doing what you do in all kinds of weather. Glad you guys are out there helping people, and companies, in need. What would we do without you?
Usually in those conditions we get no tow orders. If it’s not blocking the road, leave it there until conditions are better and roads are clear
It might not be so nice in midsummer with the sun beating down on all that metal either 😅!
I'm exhausted from that drive line battle. Casey FTW.
Oh, and best wishes to Ethan.
@macgvrs Try working in -40 or colder and high winds, that 0 degree f is a cake walk.
The time lapse made that backing maneuver look so easy. True skills on display here, folks.
That looked like a tough hike. Rose is great!
Those one bounce plastic storage are great up to the drop. Ethan will be missed.
Loved the boom camera angle!
Good morning, first smile of the day today ❤ Love to the family
Have been enjoying watching Casey by himself. Definitely watching a more relaxed, happier Casey.
That town remind me of when I was young watching cowboy movies. My older brothers and their friends watch cowboy movies all day long.
Since Walmart makes you check yourself out, you should make the remove the drive line out 😅
I have never and will never use a self checkout. I know it's supposed to be a cost saving measure but with all the added theft I'll bet they're losing money with them. And, my costs have yet to go down with the addition of the self checkout.
I’m 81 so I refuse to learn how to use self checkouts. Also, I ride my mobility scooter around the store, so I find it difficult to check myself out from the scooter. So I make them do it. The Walmart three minutes away on my scooter has a manned checkout until eight PM which I use.
Having all the tools and kits sure make your jobs go smoothly. I can see you’ve been doing this a day or two
Sorry that you lost Ethan you two seem to work well together. I bet he will not be a stranger and will be back every chance he gets.
It seems like being a basic tow truck driver to pull cars would be fairly straight-forward. You just showed how complex it is to tow large trucks!! All the comments that you had about "this truck" and "this transmission", etc., mean you know those details for a bunch of different truck brands and models. Impressive.
That shock treatment always work for stuck up joints. Nice watching and learning some techniques by a DIY guy like me. Thanks! Keep on.
Casey, I have to say the last bit of filming from the top of the Zacklift was great... never seen that vantage point of filming before. Keep up the great content.
Sad to see ethan go but atleast hes happy. Man situations like this and how you react to them is what drags me in more and more you very humble and i live your no hard feelings attitude you lost a great employee which sux for you but your still happy for him i love that this world needs more people like you
It's these videos that made me not complain about the cost of Towing 😂😂😂
L33t reversing skillz. Casey is the Ginger Rogers of trucking: he does everything a trucker does, but backwards and in the truck equivalent of heels.
Hi Casey, thanks for sharing.
Man, that driveline was a real fight. You had me breathing hard and holding my breath as you fought it!!!!
Man I don't think I've ever seen a drive line so hard to come out.. Enjoy your channel 👍
U r the man
Casey, I can't believe an honest person as yourself, would troll us about you firing Ethan! LOL 🤣🤣
cool to watch what is all needed to tow truck and trailer
Ethan was a good dude and I’ll miss seeing him, but I’m glad he’s doing what’s best for him.
Casey, a cheap yet pretty reliable option to replace the plastic case, look at PLANO cases…. They make some fishing takle/lure boxes that have held up for me pretty well.
You earned your kibble on that one! I admire your tenacity and ability to not get so frustrated that you loose your mind and start throwing tools around while slinging insults at that darn driveline. Good work! Thanks for sharing!
Love seeing the views of the NW that you provide.
Also enjoy watching all the shenanigans you get into.
That is the most common 25/20 drivelines. I think the 4 bolt flange type are worst. I usually just cut the nuts on those since we replace the driveline and new hardware every time.
Glad I'm not the only one who talks back to 22:51 the SatNav, having used a lump hammer and lever while lying under a truck, Noddle arm sets in quite quickly 😅 I don't miss it.
That was a real workout.
Angle grinder for that driveline. Their junk, they can replace it at the shop. Maybe apply a difficulty surcharge. You have the receipt on video. Good job.
Thanks for sharing.
👍👍👏👏🇺🇲
Mans brought out the reaper's scythe for that driveline 😆
That driveline needed to die
Great job.
I started visiting CA ghost towns in 1998. Even then I found they were either gone completely, or had people living in them. So I tried Nevada, but saw the same. As California became more expensive, and Reno grew, more people moved out to former ghost towns. Nice job reversing the tractor and trailer. That's one more pivot than I can do.
Great video, very detailed. Cheers.
I was ready to hand you the porta-power with a duckbill attachment to knock that driveshaft out of there. INSANE!
Great job. Thank you 😊
Casey sorry about losing Ethan, but glad he stuck a good pay and bennie package. And you're the man for giving the driver a ride for food . 😊😊
Great video thank you!
Yeah when I got my CDL ,I had 2 choices either go Over The Road Or Drive Local and I chose Local just for thus reason. I've heard Nightmares from Over The Road Drivers. Me I was home every night and if my truck broke down someone would come get me and they dealt with the truck. Thanks for the video Casey, hope you can find another camera guy.
I liked the high speed wrap up of undoing what was already done at the end.
Really enjoyed the view from the top of the boom while you finished up this job.
Backing a semi with a trailer. Excellent job!!
Great video and happy for Ethan.
Gonna miss Ethan but you got this shit Casey. One man towing crew 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Good for Ethan!!! We really enjoyed his input, always informative, but never over-the-top-know-it-all. Hope he does well, he deserves it!
All the best, Ethan!
Casey's words of wisdom: "Its like a tent - once you take it out it never fits back!"
Ethan we will miss you. Thank you for your contributions to this channel. May you and your family be blessed with your current endeavors.
Nice tour.
HEY! Gooooood morning Casey!!
Another great video , thanks for the tour of the town . That's an impressive and easy to use lifting and towing fitting .thanks
When I was a kid we actually ate breakfast in the old hotel on our way south toward California. We have family in Madras so over the years Shaniko was often a stop to stretch the legs on the way down from Washington.
