Extreme Rescue Misson at a 150 Year Old Abandoned Gold Mine!

  • Rick Sr found this 150 year old abandoned gold mine on a remote Arizona ranch 40 years ago, and has always had the dream of saving the old ore cart. Now all these years later his son owns ‪@MURPHYSDIESEL‬ and has built Hellboy, one of the most capable off road wreckers in existence, and they decided that it was time to make the recovery attempt. The original plan was to sky line it out of there yarder style, which is something that I've done quite a few times, so Rick invited me down to join along on the recovery. I jumped on th offer and flew down to Northern Arizona to join in. Once we got down to the mine we realized that it was farther down than we thought and we didn't have enough line to use the yarder technique, we built a sled out of some of the timbers on site and used the winches on Hellboy to skid it up out of the canyon.
Now the the ore cart has been saved, it's going to be put on display at the ranch headquarters to help preserve the history of one of the nations biggest cattle ranches.

    • @SansNeural

My personal opinion... running cows in the desert or near desert is spittin' in mother nature's eye. There's reasons it takes 1200 sq miles to run a big herd... it's really inefficient. I'd say it's a waste of resources, but honestly the land's not good for much else, and that's the reason it works.

Super large ranch for the US! I lived in the Queensland Outback in the 1960s. Our friend's station (ranch) was about 25 miles out of town and was 4500 square miles. Took a minimum of 7 acres to support 1 sheep and 49 acres per cow, so the stations had to be large.

It's really incredible when you think of what humans have been capable of moving and building for centuries without modern machines. I just watched this video about a man who has spent the last 40 years building a castle in Colorado by himself, with only his hands and an old pickup truck to haul the rocks he collected. The man dropped out of school in 8th grade but has managed to build this enormous castle by hand that includes iron stairs, iron bridges/walkways and a huge dragons head he created by using thousands of flattened steel buffet trays as scales. It's called Bishop's castle, and really that's the type of person they should be teaching kids about in schools. Show them what one man can accomplish with hard work and determination...a strong back helps too!😄

Great video Casey and I think you should do more things with other U-Tube people. That's what teamwork is all about. Best part was you working with Rick Sr. He is a very intelligent man and tough for his age.

It was fascinatibg to hear you say and to see Hell Boy working in a crabbing manner. I instantly understood, having watched many planespotting videos of jet aircraft doing exactly that when landing in a crosswind 😊.
What a great project in stunningly beautiful country. Pinon seeds, as we called them growing up in the Southwest, were a very special treat. After moving to California years later, it took a while before I realized what they called pignolias out here and sold for crazy prices were just pinon seeds 😂. Of course, they weren't cheap way back when, either!
